“I know it's not, and I had originally started writing "their" ball...and then changed it. But if we think about the red states in general (i.e. the ones that I'm guessing want to secede here) -- what's the "ball" they'll be taking with them? Tons of expenses that the blue states have been paying for? An underfunded/below par educational system?
Eh, just let them have their ball, and be done with it, I say.”
“As an alumnus of the chess & debate club demographic, I assure you that the nerds would very much like to be boorish too, every bit as much; they just don't get as many opportunities (until college).”
“Either you like democracy or you don't. If the government won't be transparent, then leaks are mostly good. Even if a jerk like Issa, who I never skip an opportunity to call the worst person in the entire government, does it for bad reasons, I'm pro leak.
I can't stand Issa - he's clearly the worst person in government - and I don't think I'd "like" Julian Assange either, as a person, but I think he deserves medal. (No medals for Issa. He deserves to be tarred and glittered.)
Whatever danger there is in leaks is more than made up for by informing the people. It doesn't have to come to endangering people, but if it does, it's better for a democracy that a few people risk death than that the entire population be fooled. An ignorant populace in a democracy is a bigger menace than an external enemy.
Ideally the government would just be (mostly) transparent, and there'd be nothing to leak.
Note that responsible whistle blowers like Assange don't reveal names of CIA agents and things like that - mostly it's Republicans like Issa and Cheney who do that.”

“I get what you are saying. Thanks for writing with a clarification.”
“A ranch could be sustainable, but the beef industry as a whole cannot be with 7 billion people on the planet. It's one of the worst industries on earth, actually, in terms of human end environmental health.
But one day soon beef will be sustainable. Instead of growing entire cows in sheds they'll grow just the choice cuts, just the individual muscles, in like hydroponic vats. It's a weird but good idea.”
