“Alan_r, you are quite ignorant; should Walker lose the recall election (which he very well could) all legislation he has put into law will become contestable and therefore open to revision....this is far from illegal. Also, relayed to your comment about unionization and the GreenBay Packers.... Both for profit and nonprofit organizations can be unionized...thier tax status is irrelevant to employees ability to unionize.”

“That's right junior, you're being schooled by someone your "6 year old" could educate. Now try a little harder, you're making all the recall supporters look bad. You know I'm right so you resort to insults, as is commonplace around here. You want to disenfranchise the voters of Wisconsin, so be it.”

“I completely disagree; I know a person who has moved to WI about two years ago to get away from her stalking and abusive exhusband ; she is concerned about her safety should they publicize her name and address... She should not have to lose her right to sign because doing so would jeopardize her safety.”

Eidolas on Jan 31, 2012 at 21:58:17

“And the public shouldn't lose the right to examine public records. So, if you have that concern, don't sign a public document. They posted all of the signatures for the GOP senators already, why is this different?”

Knock off your grade school bully behavior simply because your idol will have to go through anothet election. If you truly believed the garbage he has been spewing then you wouldn't' be concerned about the pending recall election.”

“Actually I am not saying that at all....please read my response again. To clarify: PUBLIC union positions on average receive LESS in WAGES in exchange for better fringe benefits while private sector like positions receive HIGHER wages but USUALLY have less fringe benefits. Also, there is more unionization in private sector then in the public sector - as a private sector employee you have the right to form a union if you deem it necessar so why do you feel public sector employees should be denied such a right?”

“Athough this is only one example, It is given as evidence that your views of union workers as leaches: please look up the salary wages for hospital workers (nursing assistants, nurses, etc) in a VA hospital versus the wages of like positions in a private sector hospital. You will note that the private sector positions pay is significantly higher than their public sector counterparts. The benefits are usually better in the public sector however this is not always the case. I work in the private sector in healthcare, my spouse works for Winn. Highway dept....my health insurance and pension is better than his ( and yes, he has always contributed MORE than 6% to his pension since he was hired in 1991) ! I recieve compensation for being on- call, my spouse does not though he is required to be "available" to come in at a moment's notice should the weather require it.... Again, I am not saying that this example speaks for every public employee position or their private sector counterparts, it simply given to prove a point: one should never generalize as it usually results in promoting misinformation and ultimately ignorance.”

So you seem to be saying that approximately 11% of the US work force that is union, join unions and pay union dues to make less money, have fewer benefits and have less lucrative pension plans than most private sector employees. Did I get that right?”

Richard Bartholomew on Jan 17, 2012 at 03:46:05

“Your original claim was: 'over-generous pensions and health care, early retirement only go to congress'. The point of my (implied) argument is that it's false that over-generous pensions and health care, early retirement only go to congress. I'm not arguing that it's the norm (although it might be).

A single counterexample suffices to establish that falsity. You would be better off arguing that $113,000-a-year pension after 36 years on the job as a lifeguard or retirement at 57 isn't excessive.”

“I think you are neglecting the fact that public sector employees are earning their wages, they are not recieving charity. They provide a service to you and the community and as such are compensated for doing so. I would again challenge you to do some research on salary comparisons between public vs. private sector employees.”

westphalen on Jan 9, 2012 at 00:22:14

“I am sure you did not read the whole threat. Nobody wants he public sector to work for nothing, that is silly. the original post started with the question that if the unions are fighting for the economic welfare of the public sector, should someone not fight for for the guy whose tax dollar pays for it all? Just in the name of fairness. Everyone is hurting. How many people in the private sector receive a life time guaranteed pension? Soc Sec and a 401 K, just like the private sector would take the pressure off the states. I make an exception for fire fighters and policemen. They are putting their life on the line.
On average people in state and federal jobs will earn 1/3 to 1/2 more than the private sector, depending on state. If you add benefits it really gets out of whack.”
