Knocking Down The Biggest Excuse For The Bailout

“You understand more bailing was done post-Bush. Obama is Geithner's boss. We all need to stop with the partisan appeasement. It's unseemly and contrary to logic.

“Although Obama was "supposedly " in thehe Opposition party I find it interesting that his solution was EXACTLY THE SAME as Bush's plan.
In effect we had a one party solution which is quite revealing about the lack of real choices in this so called democracy.
The election made quite apparent that we live in a one party state , no less than Iraq was.
And the party is held on Wall street.”

“True, but on the other hand Obama's bailout included a lot of money that went to state governments to shore up their enormous budget issues.
Without that money, a lot of invaluable services would have been cut. For instance, my employer, a State University, would have been in the ditch for $30 million dollars. Thanks to Obama's stimulus, we got that exact amount back which allowed us to keep our doors open to all our students. And, incidentally, it saved my job.
But keep in mind, we never saw a dime from Bush's bailouts....
So while Obama deserves plenty of criticism for Gheitner's wrong headed ideas. He at least finds things like Universities valuable enough to save too.”

I wonder what they are doing with all the poppy money? Can't they raise an Army and a police force of their own. This is a perversion. When we are experiencing an economic meltdown? Will The Unemployment Disaster Be Obama's Katrina?
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 07:56:22 in Politics
“The actual question is will the unemployment disaster be America's Katrina?
It's about us. Obama has a job and I assume he will for the rest of his lifetime.
The naked politicizing of Amercan's suffering without doing anything substantial to assuage it is the corrollary to the way Bush handled Katrina.
The glad-handing, pandering and blatant lying is enough to make one cry out in pain.
When will someone in government actually do something to help us? Are they content to just let our society collapse around us? Sadly it does seem so. Sorry. I'm horribly disappointed. In my gut.”

That's what's known as an axiom.
Now I don't want anybody commenting that they could just add "fees". Those are taxes too.
Another axiom...There's always plenty of taxpayer money to spend for any and every reason under the sun EXCEPT to spend it on the actual American taxpayer.

“There are volunteer groups like CAI that go into Afghanistan and build schools for girls. Something like 35 of them to date. They work with the tribal leaders. They are Taliban. So you can see as long as someone else is paying for it they are only to happy to let other nations give them a handout while they use drug profits to finance and perpetrate jihad.
The Afghani government is totally irresponsible and nothing more than a drug cartel. But we prop them up. I would declare war on Afghanistan itself not just the Taliban. Topple the regime and install a new figurehead. This way you scare the living daylights out of the Talibani's etc. You have nothing to lose because they are not working with us at all as it is now. They just take our money and then laugh at us as we struggle to help their people.
If your going to do something you may as well do it right. I would also start a draft. It's not fair. Mostly out of work lower economic ladder kids are enlisting (for the most part).
If we are going to run the ME we should run it properly. Half measures are doomed to failure.”

“This is going to be a nice boon for the Insurance, Pharma & Medical Industries. When they so generously agreed to cut costs by being more "efficient" they sacrificed almost nothing (estimate 80 billions, a pittance). Then they will strike it richer than ever after millions are added to the "public option" rolls. A huge new market of subsidized patients to serve.
The bottom line is this won't serve to save people money and make healthcare less expensive. It's not A PUBLIC OPTION IF YOU CAN'T ACCESS IT. It's not an option if it's not available to all.
I compare it to the difference between going to public schools or private. We have public schools all across our land and everyone is free to access them. If you have a great job and you like your plan and you can afford it go right ahead and keep it. If not, you should be able to access a public option healthcare plan. You choose. Some bureaucrat does not decide for you.”

“Agree. Obama should have started with single payer then moved to public option option for all. This bill is better than nothing but I want to be able to choose a public option, regardless of where I work. That would help with transportability and stability of insurance, two big concerns most Americans have. If the public option is only for the poorer segment it will become ghettoized because the poor always get the short end of the stick because they aren't as organized or able to demand good service.”

“Warren's response: "the point is not to say, 'Thou shalt not charge somebody more than X,' which would have restrictive consequences. It's to say, you've got to be really clear about it."
Hmmm yes Elizabeth we wouldn't want to restrict those loan sharks.
So I guess if your dumb enough to sign on for 25% interest it must be legal. It's your own fault and you deserve to pay that much.
The Watchdog agency that literally just watches the corruption and rip-offs. Sounds downright American to me. At some pint Ms. Warren almost seems to be rubbing the financial abuses we suffer in our faces. Can she do anything about it? Well we can't very well restrict bankers can we? Of course not.
Elizabeth actually advocates the abuses she is watchdogging because they mean economic activity. We need sub-prime loans for those bad-credit having unsophisticated rubes. They need someone to fleece them. Just make sure you spell out how badly your going to screw them first okay?”

It's right and just to try these people and let the chips fall where they may. Those who nit-pick the differences between a military tribunal and this criminal trial are disingenuous. It had to come down one way or the other. A civil trial will tend to have more legitimacy in the world's eyes.”
