“Thanks Obama! This is what is called leadership.
Nuclear is the only safe and clean way (sun and wind are too weak and inconvenient) to grow beyond peak of oil production.
We need to invest into new types of reactors which allow to burn 99.6% of all fuel almost without any waste. The same type Clinton stopped funding to please Republicans.”

“Come on, software will always be buggy.
Every piece of the software has bugs in it.
This is a nature of the beast, it's too complex to fully test not even talking about formal verification.
Even FAA can certify very small sets of code.
Hardware should always allow to override the software.
Airbus learned this the hard way.”

WasteNJ on Feb 4, 2010 at 11:54:34

“In a roundabout way you are right. All software isn't buggy, but when you move from a mechanical system of control over to an electronic system, you do build in the flaws of every electronic system.

Mostly, a mechanical system is easier to trust, but if you want to implement the latest safety features, you have to use computer control. Think ABS. There is a point where you start replacing systems with electronics and don't gain any real advantage, though.”

The same thing GM does - build better cars for Europe.

- Corolla should be history it is in fact replaced by Yaris - a little great commuter car
- Camry should be renamed from the next year model - say Avensis (European model)
- Tacoma should also be renamed into Hilux (European model)
This way they can overcome negative opinion”

“I almost bought Prius V 2010. Liked it a lot - it is very entertaining and drives like a spaceship full of gadgets. Add a set of a performance springs and shocks into it and it corners really well.
On the test drive during 65 to 0 emergency stop test brakes weren't providing enough stopping power.
I complained it to the dealer but he was so arrogant and said "nothing is wrong"
But frankly speaking I still would buy one with a different dealer.”

“Resale value is a function of desirability of used car.
Used Toyotas are popular among immigrants and I bet it will stay this way among poor uninformed public.
But on the bigger picture if you would try to lease a new Toyota or Honda from them the residual value after 3 years is an industry average 55% which means that the car loses half of its price in 3 years.
So I don't expect a big change of residual value compare to the averages.
On the other hand if you would like to buy a Toyota now you can really push a private seller hard below trade-in value.”

Conservative in NJ on Feb 3, 2010 at 20:18:33

If everybody would drive manual transmission we wouldn't even discuss this problem.
The automatic transmissions and poorly trained drivers as a result is a root cause.”

Half of the accidents were prob caused by panicked drivers stepping on the wrong pedal- happens all the time. The hysteria is being fueled 100% by $$$ from the US auto industry and the gov.”
