“From the sounds of some posters, I think this country is ready for a new Party: The Party of the Blue Fairy. 'Magic Wands for All', will be the motto. 'Wave, don't
Cave' will be the song. Turning wooden corporations into little boys, re-freezing melting glaciers, and making the poor and sick vanish, will be their specialties: Poof.”

“Yeah, lets stick with the same left, right paradymn and continue the trainwreck into the abyss.”
“ALL volunteer fire departments account for 67% of firefighters, yet protect only 18% of the people. Another 18% are MOSTLY volunteer, protecting another 17% of the people. These are volunteers who are offered benefits, like health care. Only 9% of firefighters protect 50% of us.
There are few places where more than 50 ALL volunteers are used. Most of those volunteers have their own health insurance. But if they don't, isn't it kind of crazy to send them into burning buildings?”

“Plus, would.to it be cheaper for the city to provide the ins to those who aren't otherwise covered than to have to pay more for care if a ff is injured. Why are people so afraid of common sense?”
“Very true. But I think they've already shaken the tree on that score and don't have much to show ... as far as women are concerned. Democrats murder babies, destroy nuclear families and religion, coddle criminals and terrorists, steal paychecks, are un-American and without morals .... and still most women recognize their true interests. Handkerchiefs? Maybe. I know they've tried duct tape. ”
“"I think you have to connect with women on an emotional level," said Jacobs.
Depends on the emotion, doesn't it. Sentimentality and fear don't add up to much.”
simtullivan on Dec 9, 2013 at 15:29:41
“Don't be soo quick to dismiss this strategy.
As Fox News and the RW Media-tainment complex have shown - speaking to the base / voters / etc. on an emotional level pays off huge. Fear, uncertainty, nostalga, sense of superiority, condescension, oppression, etc are all used by the RW talking heads and officials to keep the Obama-derrangment train going.
Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the GOP communication sessions on being more sensitive to Women voters. "Now if you are speaking with a woman and they start crying uncontrollably remember to take out a clean hankerchief or offer her tissues, while gently reassuring them that you'll take care of them and that it's all the Democrats fault."”

“Re the 3 dogs: I feed them once a day, each getting two cups of dry (Iams or similar) and 1/3 of a large can (Pedigree or similar). Cats get Purina Cat Chow. All get treats and leftovers (in place of the canned). Roughly $15.00/week. (All are a bit overweight.)
I don't buy for meals. I hunt for deals and keep my own 'grocery store'. (Pantry and freezer). I have "buy prices": Butter < $2.00; Chicken thighs < $.89; Breasts < $2.00; Pork loin < $2.00; Beef < $2.00#; Breyer's Ice cream < $2.50; sour cream = $1 or less; cheese = $3.00/#, pasta = .50#; tomatoes < $1/# (to can at home); etc. The store where I shop puts over-ripe fruit on sale ($.50#) which I buy to make smoothies; dented cans/torn packages/etc at half price.. usually too salty/sweet but some okay; "day-old" bakery stuff at 1/2 price (premium whole wheat bread, etc.); 32 oz pizzas = $3.00. etc.
So I might come away with 8#'s of butter, 10#s of pork loins, 8#s of cheese, milk and bread one week and 10 tubs of Breyer's, 5 jars of mayo; 20#s of hamburger; 10#'s of pasta; 10 #'s of broccoli (to freeze), etc. the next week.
Living on vegetables can be pricey if you're doing organic at the store, but you're doing it right and I admire you.
People spend less on food today as a % of income but a more on medical bills. There may be a relationship.”

“Las Vegas? Have you tried Kroger's Food for Less? The regular Kroger store where I live discounts: Food that's close to shelf life; dented cans; over-ripe bananas and fruit; non-pristine veggies; and discontinued items. Buy few things that aren't on sale. I think of it like hunting....you never know what you're going to get. Keep a large pantry and a freezer going from all the sale items .. sort of your own little grocery store .. and make your menus from that, not from the store. Just a few ideas :)”

“GMH...what are you buying? My bill is consistently $65 - $85/wk for two people, three dogs and two cats. One thing I noticed... Walmart is expensive compared to regular chain grocery stores.”
daksmom on Dec 9, 2013 at 11:40:16
“How in the heck is your grocery bill so cheap? I also have 3 dogs, all Pekes, and their wet food is 60 cents a can at Walmart, and 72 cents a can at Meijer, and they eat 2 cans per meal, plus they eat chicken.I buy mostly fresh fruit/veggies, and my vegetarian "meats", and my bill is NEVER $65-$85/wk. I don't usually do my weekly grocery shopping at Walmart, simply because they don't have the choice of produce that Meijer's has, and I eat a lot of fresh fruits/veggies weekly. Walmart is expensive compared to regular chain grocery stores? Not where I live. They're almost $1 cheaper on the vegetarian "meats" I buy, they're 12 cents cheaper on the wet dog food per can, the family pack chicken I buy for the dogs is $5.98 as a regular price, where the price is almost double that at Meijer.”

My wife straighten me out.”
riverdiv521 on Dec 8, 2013 at 21:19:30
“I certainly agree that Walmart groceries are more expensive than regular grocery stores. They will usually have a token number of items on sale to lure you into the store and hit you with higher prices for the other items you buy.”
GHM on Dec 8, 2013 at 19:33:37
“Come help me please , I cannot get out with out store with something close to 150 to 200 dollars , I have the two of us and 2 indoor cat and three ti four stray cats people abandoned and one dog.
Maybe it Las Vegas Nevada cost are higher.”
“Look, jobs have been disappearing since the late 60's starting with textiles, shoe, mfg, light mfg etc. What have the politicians done about it? Jobs continued to disappear and will continue. You think that raising the wages at fast food is going to help - watch them put in IPADS to take your order and more jobs disappear. That is our system which has created the most innovative, wealth creating society in the world. Globalization has changed the rules; we are now a connected world, just like on here. If I want to buy some thing and find it to expensive I can jump on the Internet and buy it almost worldwide. Those people you want to tax are the ones creating high paying jobs in new industry. So, at the end, what is your solution besides taxes which will create more jobs loss.”
“Well, the most efficient world would be a world without people. People by their very nature, are inefficient. If that's your plan, I'd say it's defective.”
Logic Please on Dec 6, 2013 at 18:15:35
“People are not, by their very nature, inefficient. It's all relative to what they are doing and what else is available to do it. No robot is as efficient as a human at making decisions or being creative. . But to perform basic laborious tasks, robots are more efficient in many situations.”
“It's a hoot how the same conservative will argue that government can't create jobs and with the next breath blame Obama for not creating enough jobs.
What we need in this country is a Tax on the Job Killers: Industrial robots and business computers. If corporations are people, robots and computers are people too. Tax them and give the money to the organic people .. like this guy.. who needs to eat. Robots don't care about their hard earned money.”

“Do you understand how business, economics, our system, globalization and competition work or is that beyond the argument?”
tricia malone on Dec 6, 2013 at 17:35:58
“He use to manage in a company that uses these big robots. If you tax that company and others like it what are the odds they will be hiring soon? Remove these insane taxes and more companies will return to the US to do business. Right now thousands of companies are sitting on capital because they are afraid of the next blow that will come out of the anti business client Obama has created. Get rid of Obama and his cronies and the economy will recover rather quickly. If you want companies to take risks and start hiring again you have to make an environment that doesn't throw a new burden on them every other day.”
Logic Please on Dec 6, 2013 at 17:22:55
“Yes, let's tax anything that makes things more efficient. Great plan. Heck, lets tax cars since they put horse and buggy makers out of business.”
“From the photos showing the contents in the stolen truck after it was recovered, one can see several pairs of hands on and around the equipment. I wonder if the 6 individuals involved were the police and not the bandits.”

“I would agree that the Left would love to see a real progressive in office. And Hillary could have a real challenge during the primaries. But conservatives made huge mistakes in the last 5 years, alienating and threatening the majority of America: Latinos, blacks, gays, women....and progressives. No one is staying home. Good job, Tea Party.”
“No matter who the Democrats run, some things can't be changed:
--The last Republican administration invaded an innocent country costing trillions and thousands of lives.
--The last Republican administration was negligent in preventing 9/11 costing billions and thousands of lives.
--The last Republican administration was in charge while America lost 1/4 or her value.
--The last Republican administration oversaw the stock market crashing 50% in value.
--The last Republican administration turned a federal surplus into a built-in $1Trillion/yr deficit.
--The last Republican administration left office losing 800,000 jobs per month.
Now what fool would vote for a repeat?”
“Why stop there, conservatives? After your Armies have plundered the assets of the vanquished, wouldn't it be equally customary to hold games afterwards? You know: Lions vs 90 year old gladiators or some such thing.”
