“We as a country really have no idea what true violence is. I disagree highly with Rachel on this. One of the turning points of the civil rights movement was the publication of the Emmett Till casket photos thanks to his mother insisting they be published.
I strongly advocate the same of the crime scene photos of Newtown. We sanitize violence in the media and have no real appreciation of what really happens beyond some blood photos and nice people lost their lives. If we really want to see the horror of what guns are about then we need to see what they really do to people and allow the public in good conscious to decide do we allow the NRA to continue to control this debate as a society.”

“You may be right IF you only look at this from a motivation standpoint for future action. However, from a News standpoint, Rachel is correct and I think that the family's needs and desires OUTWEIGHS the motivation possibilities you cover.”

“Eddie, thank you for making another movie which emphasizes racial stereotypes. A black guy in Beverly Hills in 2013, who would have thunk? Next you'll do a movie about with the premise of being a guy having to be in a fat suit, and as the twist is he dresses up as a woman!”
“Logan IMO is the epitome of a self serving career advancing journalists. Her professional decisions are questionable and her interview style is straight confrontational even on mundane subjects. I have a problem with any journalist who is part of the story as often as she has been. Hopefully she doesn't come back on any major news show.”
“For me this looks like an "edgy glamor shoot" more than remotely grasping what heroin addiction really looks like. Had there been African American women in this, the effect would take on an entirely different meaning. Just think, this is the look Taylor Monson, Lindsey Lohan and even Angelina Jolie have gone for to look cool in self promo shoots.”
Marie Arrington on Nov 26, 2013 at 11:17:48
“There aren't many "African American" women in these photos b/c this is in Canada. That is the first response and the second is why would it make a difference if it was AA women? Third, there aren't as many black women here as there are in the US and even fewer who are addicts. Please give your head a shake.”
Stevee DeNike on Nov 26, 2013 at 10:44:33
“Yeah, lets get some African American woman to Canada. Whatever. I think addiction goes beyond race.”
“I went to the website and would have to say it's one of the worst in terms of it's visuals and content. You can barely see the pics because they are buried in photo filters to look dark. Can't say if I will watch much if everything is going to filmed in shadows.”
“Sarah you got busted doing that cowardly stuff you do which is through innuendo and essentially bullying people who don't think exactly like you do. Good to see that the mass public has decided that Sarah Palin is not an iconic figure and when you imply the Pope needs to answer to you, well quite frankly you were put in your place you are not that type of iconic figure.”
“Notice that it's been pretty much 30 something white guys saying that whatever is said or done in the locker room stays in the locker room and you deal with it. So basically the argument seems to be "As long as the really big black guys didn't give the guy a complete stomp down right then and there, then it was okay." What is also sad is that there are black Dolphin players who are defending Incog and so at what point are racial attacks okay. Guess it must be okay when the taunts are not directed at them or towards someone they like.”
“Don't confuse the corner market store, for the standard of small business. Mom and pops are rated as you said above, however regardless of how you define it, it's still a mom and pop and small business. The issue is still CORPORATIONS do not control everything and EVERY business owner is in the business to make money so why would any reasonable or remotely successful business person, very much including mom and pops, accept a cut into their profits paying more in labor... they won't!!! I wouldn't!!!”
“Obviously you have no clue as how business works in the US. Small businesses make up 99.7% of the businesses in the US, and this is easily verifiable on the SBA.gov website. So your theory that corporations own everything and making small businesses and consumers pay the difference is basically blown out of the water. The Fed government is also the largest employer of the private sector and therefore someone will have to pay the increases.
Franchises by the way are individually owned, making them small businesses if they employee less than 50 employees which is often the case. They don't fall under "corporate" umbrella unless the corporation allows things like group insurance which actually helps employees instead of them having to pay out of pocket because the franchise owner chooses not to provide that benefit.”

“You started this discussion with "Mom and Pops", remember?
"SBA defines a small business concern as one that is independently owned and operated, is organized for profit, and is not dominant in its field. Depending on the industry, size standard eligibility is based on the average number of employees for the preceding twelve months or on sales volume averaged over a three-year period. Examples of SBA general size standards include the following:
Manufacturing: Maximum number of employees may range from 500 to 1500, depending on the type of product manufactured;"
“Are you serious? The city I live in is having to cut 2 police officers and 4 firefighters because it can't afford to pay salaries and the voters have rejected higher taxes. You have companies like Papa John's who is claiming Obamacare is forcing it's franchises to cut hours and hiring (he wrote an article on HP about it). Are you aware in business 101, labor is the most expensive cost and doubling it will not help? Ever stand in line at Target, Walmart or even grocery store and the reason you are doing so is because they can't afford to hire more people? Does that not register. There is NO proof either that a "living wage" is workable and will NOT have greater positive economic impact”
ThunderclapNewman on Nov 8, 2013 at 19:59:16
“Anecdotal stories from your town prove nothing.
The guy who owns Papa John's is a far right wing tightwad.
There is no evidence to support what you claim.Period.”
“What is sad is that this is being taken seriously to some extent. There's NO WAY mom and pops can do this and look at the prices at the local convenient store where a gallon of milk is nearly $5+ and four aspirin is nearly $9. Of course Exxon, Mobile, Comacast, etc... aren't going to pass those costs on to consumers. Just think now, a membership to the Y or Bally's will be $65 per month per person. Of course we won't see an increase in crime when people start losing their jobs either.”

irishradical on Nov 8, 2013 at 19:41:41
“It's funny, mom and pop stores all over the industrialized world survive, maybe because their customers have money to spend in them. San Francisco has a 9.00 minimum wage and 4.9% unemployment. Australia has a 15.00 mimimum wage and 5% unemployment”
Raccoon1 on Nov 8, 2013 at 19:41:27
“Mom and Pop's? What Mom and Pop's? Corporations have put them out of business. No little neighborhood grocery stores - they're 7-11's now. No local hardware stores - they're Home Base or Lowe's. Mom and Pop restaurant? Very rare but mostly fast food joints or franchises.
Paying a low wage forces employees to go on food stamps or welfare, thus costing the taxpayer. Who benefits? The corporations. YOU are making up the difference that the corps don't want to pay. YOU are footing the bills. Enjoy.”
ThunderclapNewman on Nov 8, 2013 at 19:33:50
“There is zero evidence to support your ridiculous comment.”
“I'm not going to criticize the mother for not being more contrite and gracious about this. Even when I'm prepared for speaking engagements I don't always say things as I had planned let alone something this horrific.”
