Watertown Boat Owner David Henneberry Spotted Bombing Suspect, Called Police

“Inane, simply inane. No, instead, we should have had every yahoo w/ a gun running around trying to play "Rambo" interfering with the REAL police work which was fantastic. The only OTHER person who died after the bombing HAD a gun, he was a policeman (RIP). How would the police/FBI been able to distinguish between friend and foe if there were 100s of armed people running around? People were ordered inside, you fool, so that the only person OUTSIDE would have been the one person w/ no place to go. And that's how they found him. I own guns, so you can shelve that argument before you start it. I just don't fantasize about using them when I know that the police are doing their job. Wherever you live, that's where I don't want to be.”

“My Black Lab used to babysit my boys when they were both toddlers on the floor. Daisy would sit wherever they were, herding them when they strayed, and immediately go "on alert" to any strange noise. Woe betide the person who came to the door when she was "on duty." No doubt many dogs do the same sort of thing, but Labs - the same dog as in the story - are particularly "maternal."”

“Yes, and they weren't the head of our country's Intelligence service, a prime target for blackmail and disclosure of sensitive secrets either in "bed talk" or an open laptop. Yes, "lots of people have affairs," yet they do not take, and are not subject to, "Oaths of Office" and/or "Honor Codes," of which Gen. Petraeus is subject to at least three. Yes, "lots of people have affairs," but their conduct does not reflect badly on the upper echelons of our National Service. On the other hand, lots of people have divorces, and save their "affairs" for later. Conduct has consequences. "What's the big deal?" Guess he found out.”

“Google is this great tool that you should check out. Although it wasn't necessary for me in this case, I often find it helpful to do 2 minutes of research rather then stick my foot in my mouth. The U.N. was created in 1945. Israel declared Independence 3 years later, in 1948. There is actually dramatic black & white footage interposing people in Israel listening to their radios, and U.N. delegates voting for or against the resolution. The Russian "yes" vote is particularly dramatic. Try to stay away from Wikipedia, even my kid's school will not accept it as a valid scholarly source. “It is almost a shame to have to do this, but I like the Brits, and your comment was silly. Israel was created by a Declaration of the United Nations. Contrary to your assumption, after World War II, Britain decided to let the United Nations decide what to do with Palestine, having tired of fighting both sides. The United Nations suggested dividing Palestine into two countries, one Arab and one Jewish. The Arab leaders said no to the plan, but the Jewish leaders accepted it, and declared the State of Israel. President Truman gave his support to the new state, as did Russia. The neighboring Arab states immediately declared war and, after months of intense fighting, Israel and her Arab neighbors agreed to a ceasefire. Israel captured much of what makes up the country today, save territories added after the 6-Day War in 1967. See, now you don't have to read.”

“The fact that America, self-described as the most "advanced" nation on earth: (1) has vastly different voting systems in different states, and (2) does not use state of the art electronic voting equipment, should be (and is) a national embarrassment. Hard copy ballots would be available to any and all who needed. Electronic security checks would make "hanging chads" a joke of the past. Most importantly, millions more Americans would vote, because an electronic system would remove all externalities, weather, baby-sitters, illness. . . I am REQUIRED to file documents electronically in Federal Court, while our essential election system is mired in 19th Century technology. Mind-boggling.”

Colin Powell Endorses Obama For President

Commented Oct 25, 2012 at 13:38:48 in Politics

“Gen. Colin Powell is one of the most respected people in America. I honestly believe he could have been elected President, in the mold of Dwight Eisenhower. The fact that he was made a stooge before the UN does not impinge on his credibility in the slightest; how many others were shamelessly used by the Bush administration in its march to war? Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama. He gave his reasons. You can believe him or not, be influenced or not, but you cannot slander this great American without revealing your own remarkable pettiness.”

“In response to my post, LDChism asked me "You don't think serving God is an extension of serving one's country?" Well, no I don't, especially given how many versions and visions of G-d are protected by our wonderful First Amendment. A missionary serves his/her Church. Noble work, no doubt, but I fail to see how bringing (just for example) another convert into the LDS church has anything to do with the services that our military perform for the country as a whole. I have been told to my face by Fundamentalist Christians and Mormons that I will not attain Heaven because of the limitations of my Jewish faith; if my 13 year old son one day joined the military, would YOU consider him to be "serving G-d?" I venture not. LDChism then attempted to land a very low blow by asking whether I am "worried about all the next generation of boys and girls or just [my] two boys? This, because I happened to mention my sons as being the primary motivation for my concern. Well, yes, to answer the question, I am extremely concerned about the prospect of any and all young boys and girls having their lives tossed away because of military adventurism; does that disqualify the love and concern I have for my own? Your remark was quite unworthy.”

“People have responded to my comment by raising questions about the President, or the Vice-President, and thus imagine that deflection is a valid substitute for argument. I was the one responding, in particular to a very false and narcissistic claim by Ann Romney - who I imagine to be a very nice lady - that a Mormon mission is somehow equivalent to military service. That was my subject, and remains so: No missionary ever got his/her hands blown off ringing the doorbell of yet another uninterested stranger. I was married to a missionary, I have a little bit better than average knowledge on the subject. Do your mission, serve your Church, just don't ever excuse you avoidance of the military through the use of utterly inappropriate (and quite cynical) comparisons. Missions serve a church, soldiers serve a country. Period, full stop.”

“Joe Biden's son Beau volunteered and did a year stint in Iraq. He was a son of the "elite," he most certainly did not have to join the military OR go overseas. Many, many Mormon boys choose their missions over military service. As much as Ann would love to draw a "parallel," none exists. One joins the military to serve the country. On the other hand, one goes on a LDS mission to serve a private, religious organization, with no thought whatsoever given to a possible benefit to the country. Imagine, in this country and in this time, a man seeking to be Commander-in-Chief used a religious deferment to avoid the draft, and not one of his strapping five sons found their way into a recruiting center. And there they stand, every bit the polished, shining example of what white, Christian America is "supposed" to look like. When I think of all the poor black, brown and white boys and girls who ship off to war, often because no better option exists, it makes me ill to think that Mitt Romney could determine the future of the next generation of American boys and girls. I know, because I have 2 boys who will come of age in what might be a second Romney term. I truly pray it is otherwise.”

“Here is a little Biden history. No different from Romney: " Syracuse University's College of Law in 1968,.... During his first year there, he was accused of having plagiarized 5 of 15 pages of a law review article. Biden said it was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and he was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record. He was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1969.
Biden received FIVE STUDENT DRAFT DEFERMENTS during this period, with the first coming in late 1963 and the last in early 1968, at the peak of the Vietnam War....... Biden was not a part of the anti-Vietnam War movement; he would later say that at the time he was preoccupied with marriage and law school, and that he 'wore sports coats ... not tie-dyed'."”

“Mitt Romeny was not "called out" by some jaded "talking head," he had his knuckles rapped by a White House correspondent who personally witnessed and reported on the speech in question. And the President was letting Mitt off, first brushing him off with a curt "just keep going," and then saying "check" the record when Mitt -- playing at "alpha dog -- refused to relent. It was only THEN that Ms. Crawley stepped in and smacked Romney down. That entire exchange will go down in the pantheon of presidential debate "oops" moments that the networks love to forever loop. Romney was aggressive in an offensive way, growling, prowling, looking for someone to rumble with, but punching only himself. Do you want to know who Mitt Romeny is? Ashton Jojo Lawsuit: Family Of Girl Killed By Electrocution At Mini Golf Course Seeks $27 Million

Commented Aug 23, 2012 at 19:52:00 in Crime

“All of you who are getting cranky about the number "$27 million" can relax; it's arbitrary. In California, for example, all that need be alleged is that the damages exceed the jurisdictional limit of the court (i.e., $75,000). Ultimately, it will be jury who decides the amount of damages, if any, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the amount originally claimed. Further, the comment that someone is trying to "get rich" off of their child's tragic death is obscene nonsense, as was the suggestion that "accidents happen." If the Resort was negligent -- and by all accounts it seems to have been -- a large damage award is meant as much to punish the wrongdoer as it is to compensate the family for their loss. When large corporations (backed up by even larger insurance companies) offer up attractive places for our children to play, we want them to maintain high standards of care and safety. A multi-million dollar kick in the teeth is a good reminder to this Resort and its competitors that half-assed, non-professional electrical work isn't good enough. True, there is NO amount of money that could compensate for the loss of a child. So the answer is, what, the Resort gets a "pass," and every one else still gets to make their cruel comments? Until, of course, it's your child.”

Then you took "Zimmerman" -- which is commonly a German OR a Jewish name, and then pronounced the man "half Jewish." Where are we going with this imaginary creature you have created of mixed parentage? Apparently, with you, we are going to the very same place we are supposed to be leaving, which is the apparent racist animus that took the life of this unfortunate young man (RIP). Thus, you infer, without really having the nerve to say it, that somehow a person who you only PRESUME to be "half jewish & half hispanic" was more "likely" to commit this act. Based on what? YOU try to magically "create" jobs that have already fled overseas due to the ridiculously lower wages and costs found elsewhere. As for Mitt's treatment of his pet, why shouldn't I consider his judgment right alongside his economic policies? Here, watch me, right this very moment I am doing both. Just imagine the scene: Jolly Dad Mitt has a jolly good idea because the family wants to take the dog on vacation, but for some reason can't seem to fit the pooch INSIDE the car. Says Dad: "I know, sports," let's just tie the dog's crate down to the roof, Seamus will love it, he'll have the best seat in the house."
