Jerry's Brown-Nosin' with California's Prison Guards

Commented Nov 1, 2008 at 13:55:23 in Politics

“nomnead, I assume you "love" the constitution? DO you not consider creating a Lord of THe Flies style prison exile island with no laws or means of support "cruel and unusual". Now you can sit there and perhaps argue that the potential violence and stravation of your plan is not "cruel" but you cannot argue that it is not "unusual" so, sorry buddy, your plan is COMPLETELY unconstitutional. If you would like to amend the US constitution to allow for this sort of punishment I recomend you begin lobbying in a friendlier forum immediately, though I suspect this will be a hard sell.
GOod luck though. In the meantime normal people without severe mental disabilities will try to find REAL, VIABLE, HUMANE, and CONSTITUTIONAL solutions to this very serious problem.”

“On one hand I agree but actually appointing african american's is important. ALso I understand the idea of "crushing" people but let's remember folks we have opposition parties because our ideas are NOT ALWAYS right. I have no problem with Hagel or Lugar. I like a bi partisan appointment. We will still need Republicans to help here. At least 45% of the country is still conservative and they are American's too. We need to avoid doing what Bush did. We need to realize that much of Obama's strength is his willingness and ability to disagree without rancor and to work with intellectually honest folks like Hagel, SPecter, Lugar etc etc.
So yes it would be great to have an African American at justice.
But more important is the desire to hear opposing views. More important is to have an arlen specter or Chuck Hagel, or John SUnunu or Lincoln Chaffee or Christie WHitman or DIck Lugar involved in this administration. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW US TO BECOME THE LEFTIST VERSION OF BUSH CHENEY!!! Oppostion ideas are valid and important to shape well thought out positions”

Palin Explains What Parts Of Country Not "Pro-America"

“you're sadly mistaken if you don't believe this. My father voted Republican every election of his life starting with Nixon. . .TWICE. . .George Bush Jr.. . . TWICE. He will be voting Obama/Biden. To paraphrase my economically very conservative father, "I can't support a party anymore whose sole plank is that the other guys are godless America hating infidels. I've always said that the radical leftism of the 60's was mistake. But the radical rightism of the last 20 years has been an equal disaster. Until the Republicans kick the anit gay, anti liberal, anti intellectual extremists from the party I'm out."
THis is not a minority view now. My father, Brooks, Powell. How many mainstream conservatives have to say this before Republicans realize that their party has been hijacked by a tiny (10% at most) minority of the party. The LImbaugh, hannity, Palin Dobson, Reed faction of this party are no different than if the Democrats were run by our own left wing. The difference is that jradical leftists (the people who are anarchists, ELF, WTO protestors etc) DON'T HAVE A DISPROPORTIONATE REPRESENTATION IN THE DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM. HOWEVER YOUR 10% RADICAL MEMBERSHIP HAS BECOME THE VOICE OF YOUR PARTY. take a serious objective look at this and decide if it is in the best interests of your party, and the nation. good governments need moderate righist elements to keep a check on profligate spending. THe Republican party is now run by, and provides the voice for a fascist”

“TRUE many American's don't pay income tax. I myself don't pay income tax. You see my wife and I work a combined 96 hours a week at 3 jobs. We have two small children. We are poor. I don't pay income taxes on my meager salary but unlike the super rich I pay payroll taxes on my entire income. I also pay tax on the electrcity, the gas, the water, the sewer, the phone, the garbage, the cable. I pay taxes on diapers, on milk, on gas. I pay taxes on every purchase I make. I pay taxes on services I buy. DON'T TELL ME I DON'T PAY TAXES. I pay a higher percentage of my gross income than you do. Your PERCENTAGE BURDEN DOESN"T EVEN COME CLOSE TO MINE. Perhaps if you've never had to tell you child you couldn't afford a candy bar, or had to chose between the grocery store or putting off paying the electric bill. Perhaps if you've never had to contemplate that there is no way you will be able to pay for your child to go to college. Perhaps if you've never come home to a dark house, in the middle of the winter, freezing cold and had to bundle your children in old sweaters because your electric bill had gone up 30% but your salary had stayed exactly the same you'll never understand. Or maybe your just a selfish bastard.”

Merewen on Oct 18, 2008 at 17:18:31

“I'm with you! I just ran out of heating oil! Hmmmm... wonder if the electric company will let me them off for another month. Or maybe my kids can wait on that milk and eggs. We can afford the unhealthy foods since they are much much cheaper. They don't get it and probably never will.”
