John Kerry Regrets 'Apartheid' Comment, But Israeli Leaders Have Said The Same Thing

Commented Apr 29, 2014 at 16:11:17 in Politics

“Wow! I did not realize the level of ignorance of some of the readers on Huff Post. Apartheid is a practice whereby you discriminate against a distinct group or population of your citizenry. Israel does not do this. Never has. Your ignorance begins when you fail to separate the Israeli-Arabs who are Israeli citizens, from Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, who are NOT Israeli citizens. Just like you will be treated differently in Germany if you are an American Citizen, Arabs from Jordan or Syria or the West Bank or Gaza will not have the same rights as citizens of Israel. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Israel has every right to treat non-citizens, especially hostile non-citizens, differently than their own citizens.”

Eric Nepgen on Apr 30, 2014 at 04:03:39

“WOW !
You know, it is even worse than Apartheid, because they OCCUPY another people WITHOUT them having ANY say WHO gets to govern them.
The PA is just a fallacy created by the Oslo Accords.”

“Time for a return to Eisenhower tax rates: top earners pay 90% income tax on wages, bonuses and dividend/interest over $20,000,000/yr. No exceptions. 70% on all income over $10,000,000/yr. 60% on all income over $5,000,000/yr. Plus, a 2.5% tax on all hoarded wealth over $100,000,000/yr. No exceptions.”

“This is about making sure the banking pigs are well-fed. When I was starting college in 1973, the University of Illinois tuition was $1600 plus $800 for room and board. So, about $2400/yr for State school. My family's income was somewhere around $25,000/yr. A 10:1 ratio income to college cost. I knew kids who were working at the school bookstore or Union cafeteria and made enough to cover tuition and books. Today, University of Illinois is $31,000 for tuition, room & board. Yet, the average family income in Illinois is around $48,000/yr. A ration of 1.5:1. This is an absolute outrage. The U of I for out of state kids is $48,000. State schools, yes, public, state schools are cost more to attend than the average family of four income.

Reason number one: Republican-led lowering of tax rates for the top earners. Plus, state governments not raising enough tax revenue to pay for state schools, dumping the load onto the students and their families, while the wealthy skate away with buckets of cash, able to send their little over-indulged kids to wherever they want, who cares what it costs. Then, the predatory student loan pigs come running to "service" the now unaffordable tuition rates and get kids to sign on to fat loans to get that education. The kids graduate with huge debt burdens and few jobs, today. This is the reason tuition has skyrocketed. Pigs looking to cash in on their fellow Americans who are struggling to get by.”

Why is the United States willing to allow a dangerous and filthy pipeline to transverse our land, but the home of the very company that is mining this filthy tar-chemical sludge mixture has rejected the pipeline? We will get nothing from this Transcanada pipeline but the spilled oil and damaged environment that comes with the process. Are we that stupid or that greedy?”

Any store chain that opens on Thanksgiving and does not give their employees double-time pay, is evil, cruel and downright greed-driven. Thanksgiving is a National Holiday and meant as a time of reflection and pause for all Americans. If people are forced to work on this day, at least do the proper thing and compensate them for the indignity.”

“There is only one way to stop all this craven greed, dead in its tracks: reform campaign financing. If I were "King for a Day" I would eliminate all private donations, no more 501C-3, 501C-4 or 529 organizations giving funds, nothing but taxpayer money going to create a tax-payer-funded pool of money from which every legitimate candidate would draw from, to fund their 3-month maximum campaign. Funds would be location-based as to amounts. So a candidate in NYC might receive more than a candidate from Sioux City, IA. Legitimacy would come from signed petitions and each potential candidate would need X number to get funding. This would apply to every national candidate (House, Senate and President) and those running for governor of a state. No more private donations, no more bribery, no more corruption and a shortened campaign period = sane and sound government. Also, a law must be put in place that would put a minimum 5 years between leaving office and being employed as a lobbyist or work for a business sector that the elected official once legislated while in office.”

jwinger 999 on Oct 23, 2013 at 14:15:57

“I think you are quite right. The only way to get candidates that aren't corrupted by the campaigning system is to have public campaign financing. I also like the idea of limiting it to 3 month max. Maybe more for the president. but it would drastically reform the political landscape.”

The system is rigged. By keeping the threat of outsourcing over millions of workers, CEOs have been able to keep wages and benefits insanely low, while that same company rakes in $ billions in profits, which are not shared with employees, but shared only by Wall Street investors who are already wealthy.”

“These republican governors are slowly destroying their states. Take Scott (Snot) Walker of WI. The federal government had stimulus money to allow an extension of the Amtrak train line from Milwaukee to Madison, the state capitol. It would give Madison a direct connection with Milwaukee and Chicago. It would have brought about $4 Billion in funds for construction and 3500 new jobs for about 3 years. Walker turned it down. He did not want to be seen taking money from Obama!? This is their warped, un-American ideology interfering with the good of their citizens.”

I thought he opposed the high speed line because giving travelers between Milwaukee and Madison an alternative to driving would have taken money from the gas companies. How can Big Oil continue to buy elections if people can conserve energy?”

Even in-state at the University of Illinois at Champaign, it is close to $30,000/yr. Who, but the wealthy and well-heeled can afford to send their kids to school, debt-free? College is becoming the realm of the elites and well-to-do. Just what our Democracy needs.”

If one cannot afford college, one goes to community college the first two years and then transfers, or takes 6 years to get it done and works while going, etc. The bottom line is don't take on the debt and then afterwards complain about it, you knew what it was going in.”

Does your political party support restrictions on executive compensation or not?”
