“The continued existence of the prison at Guantanamo is an affront to American standards of justice and was an ill conceived attempt to circumvent the Constitution in the first place. It should have been emptied and closed a long time ago. Send Congress a 30 day notification that all prisoners are be released then close the damn place and be done with it. The President vowed to bring the troops home from Afghanistan looks like he plans on bringing all of them. End the lease of Guantanamo Bay facilities and normalize relations with Cuba. THE COLD WAR IS OVER.”

“The crap that comes out of the smokestacks of coal-fired power plants harms people and the environment. It is time to clean it up! I and the vast majority of Americans want to breathe clean air! The health issues alone are more than enough justification for restricting smokestack emissions from coal fired power plants. You and a vocal minority of climate change skeptics can spout all the convoluted statistics and discombobulated thinking you want. Human activity is having a negative impact on the globe's environmental systems across the board. That is a fact recognized by an overwhelming majority of experts and average citizens alike. It is beyond imagining that anyone could not comprehend that pumping a bunch of crap into the atmosphere does not have negative consequences.”

Some of us that served in Vietnam over forty years ago are just now utilizing the Veterans benefits to which we were entitled by our service. The demand for care will grow at an exponential rate. “The National Guard is the States' Militias. They are under the command of the respective Governors unless needed in time of a National Emergency when they can be transferred to Federal control. During the time the constitution was written, individual members often provided their own individual weapons while serving in the militias. At other times central armories were kept to store arms. Hence the British march on Concord and Lexington to seize powder and arms from the colonists. Contrary to some boneheaded stupid decisions by some members of the supreme court, our founding fathers did not intend for unfettered firearms ownership by the public where there was no need. I don't think the vast majority of the public advocates that either. We do however want to stop the nonsense and get guns of the streets on a day to day basis unless your employment requires their use. There would be little objection to arms for target shooting or hunting. We don't need are society awash in guns with a sole purpose of killing others.”

“How many of us shopped online ten years ago? We used to get big thick catalogs from Sears, Montgomery Wards and others. Before indoor plumbing became common, the catalogs were dual purpose and the shiny pages went last. I was in a Sears store yesterday and the displays were more spread out and some brands absent. The internet has replaced the catalog and the likes of Amazon, eBay and other online merchants get our attention. Twenty years from now we will be telling our grand kids how we had to wait for stuff to show up on the UPS or FED EX truck. They will exclaim, Didn't you have 3D printers?"”

“McConnell signed a pledge for Grover Norquist and has been beholden to him and the 1% crowd ever since. The Senate Election is about a six year term. President Obama will have two years left after Alison Grimes is elected. So even if you are not a big fan of President Obama as I am, Alison will still be working for Kentuckians with the next President. McConnell has done nothing but feed his ego and play politics during his previous terms and done nothing for the people of Kentucky. He keeps crying about a War On Coal knowing full well that it is a sham; his only objective to dupe coal related families into voting for him. He did however vote to cut off their unemployment benefits, cut their food stamps, deny benefits for Veterans and try to stop affordable health care for them. Voting for McConnell is worse than shooting yourself in the foot. A bullet will go clean through. McConnell will just fester for six more years.”

“Racial discrimination is one component of a much broader problem, discrimination in itself. If one believes you cannot be discriminated against because you are of the majority race, think again. It happens because of racial, ethnic, sexual, economic, religious, and organizational differences. It has its roots in fear of the unknown and ignorance. It manifests itself when people are insecure in their beliefs and view anything that challenges their beliefs with suspicion. People mistakenly believe they can elevate or protect their own self worth by belittling or stymieing that of others. In the long run the those doing the discriminating are the true losers. Isolating yourself from those who are different from you denies opportunity to enrich one's life. Criticizing those that do reach out is equally as destructive. As Rodney King prophetically said after his beating by the police, "Can't we all just get along!"”

“Long wait times for appointments is a symptom of inadequate resources. There will be a burgeoning need for certain types of specialists as the population of Iraqi and Afghan War Vets have symptoms surface. As more of us Vietnam Vets retire and and no longer have the level of medical coverage provided by employers the system will have an additional patient load. Give General Shinseki time to sort out why certain administrators were suppressing bad news about a long wait time to receive care. Meantime Congress's priority should be to determine the resources needed for the patient load and getting the funds into the budget to meet those needs. Everything else is a distraction and secondary to solving the root cause of the problem.”

“My spouse is a Disabled Vet. They have been making promises for the last 20 years, always claiming it is a "money" thing. I worked for the Gov't for 30 years. There are plenty of resources, money. It is how it is misused, wasted, that is the problem. Info is supressed because it is the CORPERATE ENVIRONMENT. The Fed Gov't immediately covers crap up rather than deal with the problem because no one wants to "look bad". Get new leadership with a clean house mentality, then maybe things will change.”

Given that Incentive, they solved the Problem by Lying about it because there is just not enough Money in the VA budget to hire the People needed to actually solve the problem.

“I couldn't agree with you more. We rushed to war in Iraq inadequately prepared and soldiers were killed and maimed because they were not equipped properly. What would make us think that the Bush Administration would plan for the care of our Afghan or Iraq vets in a thoughtful, transparent way? They wouldn't even put the costs of both wars in the budget. My husband is a Vietnam vet, and he recently retired and goes to the VA now. He cannot say enough good things about his care. My heart goes out to those vets who are not getting the care they need. Resources have to be allocated, and our "do nothing" obstructionist congress won't do anything that might be seen as positive for this administration. They disgust me.”

We have a Heroin crisis, we have a Meth Epidemic, and prescription pill abuse still plagues the area. It would appear the Head of the DEA needs to be called into the White House for a chat with the boss.
