NRA Responds To Sandy Hook Massacre

“I fail to see where banning guns is going to solve anything. If that be the case, then there are gonna be some pretty creative ways people will develop in order to hide what they have in order to keep their guns. We have got to find a happy medium with this issue, otherwise it will be a dead-lock and meanwhile nothing will get done.”

“@GEORGE:  Yes, he was 20, but he was still a juvenile when she pulled him out of school and began home schooling him.  That right there should have been a signal there for her to look a little differently at his situation, Agree?  I would have done that as a mother myself.”

“I don't disagree with you at all. But once he reaches the age of majority in his state, there is very little a parent can do! I know! I lived under the threat of being decapitated in my sleep for a couple years after my troubled stepson turned 18, and there wasn't a darn thing I could do about it other than to keep trying to help him. Eventually, my ex-stepson chose to live homelessly in a park in Sacramento until he was rounded up along with a bunch of illegals by a farmer to tend crops in Northern California. Nothing I -- or the police or county mental health department -- could do about it but cry for him.”

“PART @: People need to start taking responsibility for their actions/lack thereof. Parents should be rearing their own children instead of allowing outside agencies to rear them. We as a society have gotten lazy with our responsibilities with the exception of creating new ways to make money. Money is our God now and everything else falls short.”

“I will probably get alot of flack for this statement, but here it goes: First of all, I believe the shooter's mother is the one who should be held responsible. Reason: Because she knew her 20 yr old son was mentally unstable and did nothing to prevent this from happening. Not saying she knew he was going to carry out this plan, but by her preventing the son from having access to the guns (lets bear in mind he had more than one), he would have had to have an alternate plan OR he wouldn't have done anything at all. Who knows at this point? BUT, he was living with her and she voiced concern to friends about his health, so in my opinion, she knew way more than we do of his condition. Any parent who truly loves their child - knows their child inside and out. Obviously, she knew, but failed to do anything about it for her own selfish/idiotic reasons. The boy needed serious help and was basically denied it - all because his mother didn't take affirmative action to get him the help he needed. At the time she pulled him out of school and began "home schooling" him, she should have known then he had an antisocial behavior pattern and failed to address it before it got out of control. She may have been mentally ill herself. In that case, the father (parent), should've removed the boy from that environment at the time of the”

“I agree with you. His mother knew he was a menace and did nothing about it. He did not want to be touched or hugged or kissed...how can a child function normally without any of this type of affection? They can't! She was in denial! No parent wants to put a label on their child with special needs but her inaction led to the deaths of all these innocent children and adults. Even in the divorce papers she noted that she would just take care of him in her home for as long as he needed. He needed special care and counseling and she denied him that! RIP beautiful souls. You are in God's arms now.”

georgev22309 on Dec 18, 2012 at 10:58:02

“I agree with your general point, but her son (the shooter) was 20 years old. Authorities will not lock up a 20-yr-old based on a mother's request. He has civil rights like everyone else. Before his mother and I divorced, I had a 20-yr-old stepson who had been diagnosed years before with bipolar disorder. He was danger to both himself and others, in my opinion (especially because he told his counselor he was going to decapitate me in my sleep), but we could not get him the help he really needed. We even got county mental health counselors involved, but being the charismatic person that he was, he was able to convince them that he had everything under control. Then he broke into an elementary school and decapitated a dozen chickens and beat a pygmy goat to death. It's been over 10 years since then, but who knows what someone like that is capable of when they get stressed to the max? Bottom line: We can promote mental health awareness and treatment for our adult children, but we can't force them to accept it.”

So the article only gives basics - it's not meant to be a stronghold in guiding a relationship, or determining what should/shouldn't be done.”

“If people from the north were really interested in what goes on in the southern states, you should come and stay for awhile. Some of the comments I'm reading are completely unfounded. People who live in the southern region know the real reason why a great number of people are against Obamacare. There is a large mulitude who choose to live in poverty in order for the government to foot the bill for their healthcare expenses and more. Education? Well, when the students in our schools couldn't pass the LEAP and IOWA tests and were failing miserably, our officials had to stop the bleed and lower the standard of education so that our numbers of failing children would diminish. Meanwhile, the ones who are dropping out are the very ones who were exploding the numbers of failures of these tests. So, it was basically a lose-lose situation. Don't believe everything you read in the newspaper and see on TV, and don't be so quick to judge on something you aren't fully informed of.”

“I had to end a 20 yr. friendship over money. It wasn't the fact that she was trying to avoid paying the money back, but the way she went about it. Then, she tried to turn the situation around on me and make it look like it was my fault. I'd been through a lot with her and now that I look back on the "friendship", I realize each time we had our differences the arguments grew worse and worse. Although I miss the good times we had throughout the years, I will never allow myself to get involved with someone like that again. New friends? Yes, I have made some, but now I keep them at arms length until they have proven to me that they can be trusted and truly worthy of my friendship.”

I guess he thinks he's being clever and pulling the wool over the eyes of the Americans that look at things with clear eyes, not with Rose colored glasses. Obama has a HUGE hidden agenda. He didn't accomplish it in his first term, so therefore, he needs another term to get it done, along with a string of others that will only cripple the US even more.”

“That's a FAIL. It wasn't Bush who turned his back on the residents of New Orleans, it was Ray Nagin the Mayor Of New Orleans who turned his back. There was hostility between Nagin and then Governor of LA, Kathleen Blanco, which caused the ball to be dropped. Nagin wouldn't communicate with the Governor in order to get the funds that were readily available. The chain of structure for accessing these emergency funds was not implemented and this is what caused the delay. Bush took the fall for this break-down which inveribly caused Mike Brown with FEMA to lose his job. It was very frustrating to say the least, but after it was all said and done the real reasons behind it all came out.”

“You're right. There are too many people in this world who are self-absorbed. These in my opinion are the ones who will be more likely to cheat. Selfishness is a disease that can spread to all aspects of life. The more you indulge in self without including your spouse the worse it gets. Pretty soon you are out of control and the relationship is ruined by your actions. When you commit to marriage, you can no longer just think about yourself, there are other people in the mix who are going to be affected by your actions as well.”

“thanks. I think my biggest issue with eating is that there are so many limits to eating and when I follow them I don't loose much so it's not worth it. I walk at least 1 hr and 15 min a day sometimes more. If it's not walking weather I have a high impact exercise routine that covers everything and takes an hour. It's really possible some of the weight is muscle. I'm on a strong birth control pill. I don't even get my period anymore. I suspect if I went off it my waist would be a few inches smaller. However, we can't afford a second child. My son is 3. On weekends I do at least an hour and a half of walking. I try turkey on whole wheat but I love salami too much and when my nutritionist tried to make whole wheat sound as bad for your waist as white bread I said "then I'm having what I really want and that's the white bread". She agreed whole wheat is better. That's a big problem, salad dressing has sodium and/or fat in it so even salad isn't completely healthy. I'm tired of "eating like a rabbit" to quote my husband. My thyroid has been tested and is fine though. I would love to know how much of that poundage is muscle.”
