Majority of Kaiser Workers Pledge to Support SEIU-UHW in Next Week's Election

Commented Sep 13, 2010 at 16:38:10 in Politics

“Actually it was the membership calling for Sal and co to go to jail. Nothing SEIU ever said claimed that, at least as far as I've read. The 100 member board you refer to also was a majority of staff members and UHW executives, not rank and file members. And, if any rank and file members went against the grain on the old board, they were immediately removed from it.

The current board has limitations on the number of staff members that can be on the board (which is 10 or 12, if I recall correctly). That's 5% of the total board.

Maybe calling Andy Stern squeaky clean was a poor choice in words, but he to call him guilty by association is just as big of a stretch on your part. And, Andy doesn't live here anymore anyways, so it's a moot point.

Otherwise, I just see a lot of hearsay in your posts. Backroom deals? Existing leadership setting themselves up for re-election? It sure wouldn't be the first time that an appointed trustee ran for election and won.”

“Sternburger? You base your opinions on a gossip site? Did UHW never hire additional GOTV help when Sal was in charge -- and would they hire them now if they had the resources?

And I'm pretty sure that the Sal stealing members dues has more to do with when he was with UHW, a union that actually has dues paying members.”

thekid360 on Sep 13, 2010 at 16:35:32

“Sternburger is a UHW member and has been right about most of the things he has posted. Someone within UHW is providing him most of his material. Check out the current out of towner complaining about lying to union members. How can you justify $150 per day + $50 per day of meal money paid to non union members. Doesn't SEIU pay lost timers, I would much rather see you getting paid, because you do seem to care. Even if you are misinformed. And no union pays for GOTV unless it is a political person that you really really trust. Union members money should never be used against themselves. After all NUHW did get enough of dissatisfied SEIU members who demanded an election. That money comes from all SEIU members not just the ones who want to stay. And a lot of NUHW people are volunteers, people who actually care about democracy for all union members. So they are making sacrafices for good of the labor movement. My type of Union members, exactly.”

Majority of Kaiser Workers Pledge to Support SEIU-UHW in Next Week's Election

“And don't forget Sal and NUHW who was found guilty earlier this year to the tune of 1.5+ million after trying to siphon DUES and strike fund money out of UHW. You can't have it both ways here, and as far as I know, Andy (WHO NO LONGER IS EVEN WITH THE SEIU) or Dave Reagan are squeaky clean.

As far as elections, the leadership board (which by the way is more than twice the size of when Sal was in charge, and filled with actual MEMBERS instead of his hand selected staffers) is reporting that they'll be scheduled after the Kaiser election and after they agree to the bylaws and local constitution.”

“The jury found about 11 people guilty working on the clock in support of NUHW while being employed by SEIU, period, nothing about theft. SEIU claimed before the trial started that Sal and the rest would go to jail for exactly what you stated , but once the trial started it wasn't even brought up by the $25 million legal team.. SEIU spent $25 million for a $1.5million judgement, not a good investment of dues money. If there was theft then the justice dept would have done an investigation, which they have not. We do know that Tyrone Freeman misappropiated more than $1million by himself, where is outrage, stealing is stealing. And all the other people I listed was appointed by Andy. To call him sqeaky clean after all the damage he has done to the labor movement is laughable. You say the leadership board appointed by Dave and company will eventually call an election. Trusteeship are set up to remove people, which has been accomplished. They were not designed to win elections, so you can 't have it both ways. And by the way the 100 member executive board that was removed was democratically elected. And to top that off all the money that SEIU claimed was stolen was voted on by this same board, that is known as transparency, unlike the backdoor deals Dave is doing. Look for a fee to start in Oct. to be in the partnership, in other words a dues increase.”

“You know that Sal voted like 37 times out of 38 for consolidating the locals right? The only time he objected was when it meant he'd lose members and not gain them. He's not about the members, he's about having personal power. And now I see NUHW advertises on this site with "who is sal rosselli ads"? What a megalomaniac. NUHW and Sal doesnt care about the workers, they only care about themselves and hurting the SEIU. That's why they rushed to win a few elections. They talk a good talk and then do nothing except take money out of workers pockets. I met him when he came to try and "rally" workers. The only thing he got from us was a cold shoulder.”

“Not in my facility, that's for sure. My coworkers were on the bargaining team, and I know where Kaiser started out. If the SEIU-UHW had agreed to that deal, I'd think something was up. But we got good raises, and kept our benefits. What's NUHW got for the RNS that joined them earlier this year? NOTHING.”
