“Jesus Christ said, "and behold, a child shall lead them". Too bad this beautifully profound line is still lost on millions of so-called "Christians" and others who will never understand Phoebe's lesson, like our friend chc2001.”

“Well put, Star*Dagger. It's very telling when the daycare lady says, "(Phoebe) doesn't understand it like you and I do." What little Phoebe didn't understand was the alleged adult "reasons" why some people have to go hungry in a world with enough for everyone. Indeed, no child could understand that... because it's dumb and it doesn't make sense. A concept so simple a child can understand it, yet many adults didn't get it even in the face of this experience.

This little girl taught a monumental lesson to many adults who presumably "know better" just because they're "grow-ups"...”

Wall Street Pay Caps Are a Terrible Idea

Commented Jun 09, 2009 at 11:26:31 in Business

“All our society's problems stem from our ignorance about the transcendent realities of life. As long as humanity harbors a shallow, materialistic, immature collective mentality, our world will be basically the same as it is today -- the same it's been for thousands of years. Plagued by deceit, violence and greed.”

“The truth is that America's best interests were co-opted by huge corporations that have been working for decades to tip the scales of power in their favor successfully. The fact that the average American imagines that this is the greatest nation on Earth while it has been slowly dismantled and sold piece by piece from right under their feet is a sad fact that goes ignored by millions - because the implications are devastating and too ugly and painful to think about.”

“Now the ultimate irony would be if this turns out to be the beginning of the end for America because the corruption and greed deep within the core of its institutions, and the frightening obliviousness of its general populace, have contributed to hasten its natural decline and collapse. By all indications, the financial crisis has just begun and it's going to get worse globally. It may be too late but even now, at this late hour, there is still hope...”

“All I could register of this blog in my fragile little brain was, "I voted for Obama"... "Rick Warren"... "an insult, a disgrace"... and then I remembered that the world is still full of wonderfully narrow-minded, fragile little egos that take offense at the slightest insinuation that someone disagrees with oneself, and becomes really sensitive and touchy when things don't square off with the little me's view of reality... time to grow up, frightened little ego people!”

this choice is dangerous to large segments of our population -- including gays who face violence regularly, and women and girls. This is what's disturbing the brightest posters. They get it.”

“F### Y##! When WE, gays are allowed to vote on YOUR civil rights I'm sure you won't be feeling so smug. We are tired of SUBSIDIZING YOUR family. We are tired of paying higher tax rates. We are tired of being denied our right to make medical decisions for our partners. We are tired of our partners parents suing us when our partners die (despite having our wills in order) and losing everything we own(ed) together to our partners parents because we were not "married".

So ANYONE who tells me to "get over it", all I can say is F### Y##!”

“Democrats have become exceedingly good at hand-wringing, whining and becoming desperate and despondent, even when they're in the lead. Never mind that most serious, long-term analysis of electoral vote projections show a modest but consistent Obama lead for many months. Why focus on that when fickle polls give us so much zany up-and-down rollercoaster action and drama to keep us worried? Obama's victory won't be a landslide because Republicans have deeply divided this country -- but maybe when he's in the Oval Office next January some people on the left will stop being so damn traumatized by what happened eight or four years ago. Grow up.”

Besides, with the benefit of hindsight anyone with a minimum of intelligence can appear as if they were wise sages.

The Media's Problem Of "False Balance" Showing Itself In Electoral Map Analyses

Commented Aug 12, 2008 at 21:30:47 in Politics

“I agree with freeinquirer, but why would the media rise to an honest and professional level when the almighty dollar rules everything?

Seriously. As long as millions of dollars are at stake, most people, and most definitely corporations, will sell their integrity for those millions in a mouse's heartbeat. They are unable to resist. It is impossible. Money is not the root of all evil -- but greed and the illusion of power corrupt the human heart and mind like nothing else.”

“but it's not just media corps at work here. the talk radio monopoly has been essential for feeding the GOP agenda to the rest of the media and having the GOP in power has meant trillions in corp tax breaks, war profiteering, and deregulation. the media may have their own business interests to think about but tv and print still have to provide some semblance of balance, so it cant all be fox. the talk radio monopoly can say whatever it wants 24/7 without fear of responsibility or getting called on their lies. no matter what limbaugh and hannity say, the talk radio monopoly itself is not operating primarily for profit- no one will ever get 1/2BIL$ for doing what limbaugh and hannity say they're selling- wit and wisdom and truth.”

“TroubledTexan,

Do you realize you sound just like all the Neocons and fundies who really believe they are "defenders of the Constitution and what is right in America"? Let's not start thinking like they do!! Us liberals ought to be REALLY compassionate, not just in name only like them. We ought to be open minded enough to realize that people make mistakes and to be mature enough to see past the trivial to focus on what really matters.

What really matters are the issues that affect us all: the economy, oil dependency, the war in Iraq. Not who John Edwards cheated with and the fact that he lied about it. You see, that doesn't bother me at all because I don't judge people from some kind of self-styled "righteousness pedestal" where I know better than just about everyone. We need John and Elizabeth and we will definitely need them in an Obama administration. But right now we need to leave them the hell alone and stop acting like a bunch of neocon ignorant "morally superior" half-wits -- because that is the purview of human ego, always judging and comparing itself to others and always finding excuses to be "outraged" and "indignant".”

The choice is very simple this year. I'd like to think that most regulars on this site will cast a vote for the candidate most likely to bring about change. To those hurt by Obama's FISA stance I pose the same question. Who is more likely: Obama or McCain? Well then, there's your choice.”

The Spirituality/Change Connection

Commented May 17, 2008 at 01:23:24 in Living

“it seems vague because spirituality is not about a complex problem to be solved, with mathematical formulas or equations to solve, or implied philosophical meanings to extract. it's simply about breaking hold of the mind's compulsive need to analyze, divide and compartmentalize all experience and compare it to its own memories -- which is itself a step away from the well-defined insanity of our human cultures and toward the "vague" realm of the inner space of each human being.

it seems vague because it talks about things that are subtle and "less physical" than the world we're used to. this is all for each person to figure out on their own -- the information has become public but in the end each individual takes what applies to them, what they can relate to, and leave the rest.”

recless replied on May 17, 2008 at 06:33:25

Your Neocon buddies are happy to keep the military bogged down in a retarded war and blow billions of dollars annually, used 9/11 as an excuse to put us all under the control of the military/industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about, and these greedy little pigs are happy to cater to the most base, common-denominator, tried-and-true manipulation techniques, like questioning everyone's patriotism who disagrees with them and spouting childish rhetoric like "if you're not with us, you're with our enemies". You have no defense; at every turn your Fascist Repubs are exposed for the frauds they are, but because they have entrenched themselves in Washington and they know Chimpy has their back, they just smirk on and deny till the end. How did they brainwash you -- by telling you that Democrats want terrorists to raise America's children? Or by telling you that Democrats want to raise your taxes; a ludicrous notion considering it is the Neocons who have brought this economy to the brink of recession.
