What Is The Sequester?

What Is The Sequester?

Commented Mar 1, 2013 at 11:00:51 in Politics

“Not random cuts to needed programs... I know we need cuts, but not "forced" cuts that have no rhyme or reason but to scare congress into passing something better”

“It's not the end of the world. Sequestration is and only is a scare tactic created by the administration. There will be a long term solution when Obama stops demonizing GOPers and gets out of Congressional arguments to allow Congress to legislate... like they're supposed to.”

“The USA has the most important military in the world as well, ensuring peace and protection of the many countries we ally with and the people of countries whom we ally against. I just do not get your reasoning though... If you spent over budget one month, would you blame your employer for not paying you enough?? As in, how are the tax dollars the reason our government is "run dry"? The reason we're "run dry" is because we spend too much! Additionally, you don't want corporations sending jobs overseas, lower corporate tax rates!! Incentivize them to make jobs here! Incentives affect behavior, that's why huge welfare checks make people not seek employment and that's why jobs go overseas.”

“And so you may not be a staunch Democrat but my statement on racism still holds. And again, I'll say, it's as if you think "nation is not put first" anymore and you blame that on the racism of the GOP... that's a terrible viewpoint and it's completely absurd. Every administration and every congressman backs the policy initiatives they think will do the most good for the nation as a whole, not just to disagree with the person across the aisle. But I do like what you say about "Obama may not be the ideal President of the United States," b/c your darn right. He could be ideal for maybe an eastern European nation, but not the USA-- and I say that as an American, not because he happens be half black.”

appeallawy on Mar 1, 2013 at 10:37:02

“If you think that the conduct of the RepTbags is in the interest of the Nation then you've not looked at the destruction the European "austerity" economies. A day may come that WELFARE for Banks, Oil Companies, Farmers, Pharmaceutical Companies, etc., will reap the response they merit and the American people will not be milked and bilked by the 1% and that includes the wars fought in Iran and Afghanistan for Bush's oil and defense buddies.”

“My disclaimer I think is similar to the debate-- I'm sensitive to being accused of being a birther, so I type out that stupid disclaimer. If Obama was (b/f "Birthers" became a thing and it's a joke now) sensitive to the issue, he would have acted like he was sensitive to it. Incentives affect behavior and if he has the incentive to make people know he was born in the US, he would make people know he was born in the US ASAP. Does that make sense? These are the issues... not necessarily the actions themselves, the Michelle statement or the bio write up, but the immediate aftermaths and circumstances surrounding the actions.”

LeftRight on Mar 1, 2013 at 12:07:17

“He presented his Birth Certificate in JULY OF 2008!!!! That's not "refusing to acknowledge", that's proving you wrong FROM AN EARLY DATE!

You didn't accept his proof, but that doesn't change the fact that he proved it BEFORE he even won the nomination!

I swear, this is just like people claiming "prove gravity exists!!" and being told "Are you flying into the air? That's proof." and then claiming that no proof was offered....”

“Again I find myself stupefied by your reasoning and ability to discuss this issue in a civil manner. I want you to read the following and just think about it logically, not with a slant but just answer my questions. The issues with the above stated issues are as follows: regarding his bio, if it was so incorrect and if he was so sensitive to the issue, knowing he wanted to be president, etc, what were the people thinking as they typed the bio up, where did they get that information, why was that information out there before the "birther" debate began, why did someone or Obama himself not immediately amend it or state that it was incorrect? It's not that it exists, it's the circumstances surrounding it. And even if you don't believe that that ever even existed which, like the holocaust, you could do conceivably, how about the Michelle Obama soundbite. She did say it, so why did that come to her mind, she appears to not really think about it but just say it, so why? What was in her mind that made her say that, why did she not backtrack immediately as she should have known what she said was wrong, and why did someone in Obama's camp not then immediately say she mis-spoke? And again, I feel like a broken record player, but disclaimer: I do not necessarily agree with the "birther" conspiracy but there is indeed smoke that exists.”

“I'm so tired of Democrat's broken record claiming "racism," you can't live in equality and have an equal society until you STOP thinking in terms of black and white. That is, yes, stop being racist, but also please stop thinking every comment is based on race! You hated Bush, so is it so hard to believe others could hate Obama's policies?? What's the Shakespearean quote, "a rose by any other name," and b/c I'm certain you won't understand what I mean-- if someone with the name George, Bill, or John who was a WASP had the same policy beliefs, conservatives would dislike him just the same. Not everything is race inspired.”

roald on Mar 1, 2013 at 13:42:48

“I am so tired of Republicans who claim they are not racists, but act like them. Yes, many people hate Obama's policies without being racists. The ones who do not think he is eligible to be president are another matter. They are the racists and the people who use them.”

“I actually voted for GWB twice. Bought the Kool-Aid about WMD and watched while the Bush Admin bungled the wars. Bush left the Nation much worse than he found it and built, in considerable part, the current house-of-cards that is waiting to topple. Obama may not be the ideal President of the United States and presidents now revered were roundly pilloried in their time, i.e., Lincoln, FDR, but somehow NATION was put first: NO LONGER.”

“Well you're obviously a beacon of intelligence. There is evidence. See for example his bio in the booklet, "born in Kenya and raised in Hawaii and the Philippines" I believe it says, Michelle stating "Obama's home country of Kenya," the fact is there's no evidence if you're not looking for it or if you don't want to see it. But as I said I get tired of the argument too and don't totally believe it, but there is indeed smoke. Thanks for your thoughtful insight though”

bdaved on Mar 1, 2013 at 18:56:44
