If I did invest, his style of overwrought hype and shoot-from-the-hip prognostication, would be the last resource I would use for advice.”

Why I Am Grateful that Rush Limbaugh Attacked Me Today

Commented Mar 20, 2008 at 17:13:17 in Media

“I happened to catch the remarks about Arianna during the approximately 90 seconds I can listen to Rush before the urge to vomit becomes too great.

The "greek translator" ad hom was really out of line

Remember that song, "Don't Worry, Be Happy"? When it comes to Limbaugh, I prefer "Be Happy, Don't Listen".”

“A wonderfully written essay!
Opponents of same-sex marriage bristle and gainsay when the comparison to is made to the Loving case, but the analogy is spot on. Using the mantra "Marriage is between one man and one woman" as a catch phrase to deny gays the right to marry is as profoundly wrong as "Segregation today..." was to deny black people equal rights.”

The conventional thinking is that God answers prayer in three ways: Yes, No, Wait (or perhaps Maybe).

Obama Nobel Peace Prize Reaction

Commented Oct 9, 2009 at 10:02:06 in World

“I voted for Obama and strongly support him, but this award baffles me. I think it's drastically premature. In fact, I would think it's a bit of an embarrassment to the White House.
I hope he finds a way to graciously turn it down, or at the very least dedicate it and the prize money to a worthy cause.
The right will be foaming at the mouth, but they didn't need a new excuse to hate Obama anyway.”

AusDem on Oct 9, 2009 at 10:30:29

“I agree, a little premature. however turning it down would be a large insult to the nobel committee. a more appropriate statement would be:

"I'm extremely humbled by this prize. However I recognize that there is a long way to go in achieving peace and prosperity for many peoples of the world, and I hope to be able to live up to the hope and responsibility that accompany this prize. For now, I would like to dedicate this prize to those people around the world striving for the goal of peace, and donate the prize money to INSERT DERSERVING GROUP HERE. Thank you and god bless the United States of America."”

Arianna on BBC Newsnight to Discuss Barack Obama's Win

Commented Nov 6, 2008 at 09:08:34 in Politics

“How refreshing to listen to a moderator who asks short, direct questions! I just finished watching Morning Joe and the contrast between him and this BBC host could not be more jarring. Like Matthews, Hannity et al, Scarborough thinks of a question as simply an opportunity to perform. He will even interrupt an answer to continue the performance because he knows that his question is more important than anything the guest has to say. Why can't we have this kind of intelligent discourse on American news programs?

And yes, Arianna is a complete gem.”

mamazboy on Nov 7, 2008 at 17:56:51

“Well said, chronicBob! Maybe we'll be able to move closer to rational dialogue and less infotainment/performance as we marginalize self-aggrandizing media trash from Scarborough to Limbaugh. They're all going to look mighty strange as society moves forward and they're visible in your rear-view mirror screaming about Jeremiah Wright and other irrelevancies.”

“The New Day, the Hope, and Future we are all onto now involves the media as well.

hu.man on Nov 6, 2008 at 09:59:02

“"Why can't we have this kind of intelligent discourse on American news programs?"

Important question to ask. I believe the answer is that the intelligent discourse you are referring to cannot be commercialized. American news has more entertainment value than content. That is how you an keep its commercial value. BBC is not dependent on commercial appeal and therefore it can format content according to intellectual appeal if you may.

Look for internet to change all of this. It would be interesting if HoffPo could launch a TV channel to work in tandem with its website.”

My opinion of Tennessee is based on my experience. Why should I speak against people who have been polite, courteous and friendly to me? Your post reeks of the kind of ignorance and predjudice you accuse other of.

Sure Tennessee has its share of flaws, and the politicians of both parties are the most incompetent herd of sold-out of opportunists, dimwits and hacks I've ever had the misfortune of being represented by.
But my experience with the people here has been good, and I'm not going to slag Tennesseans just because YOU don't like them.

“I'm going to chip in a word of support for Tennessee.
I moved here from Connecticut a year and a half ago.
Remember Connecticut? The state that was stupid enough to re-elect Joe Lieberman?
Despite the fact that we are clearly Yankees, and a mixed race couple to boot, people here have been nothing but friendly, polite and welcoming to my wife and I. Middle Tennessee is a beautiful area, the package stores stay open later than 8pm, and no one cares that I don't say "y'all".
I like it here...I'm home.
However, regarding Obama, what else can be expected from a state that rejected it's own native son in 2000, thus changing the course of American history?
In the end, it doesn't matter how this state feels about Obama. He's not going to win here, and quite honestly, so what? He doesn't need Tennessee.
Connecticut voters will, however, redeem themselves somewhat by going with Barack in November.
Lieberman will still rankle, but I can live with that.”

“That's nice Chronic Bob, I too live in TN. Middle TN in the rural area just about a couple of years ago we finally got a law passed that you can buy Alcohol on Sundays after the noon hour. Also in our local super walmart they are just getting around to selling beer. Of course a lot of the bible thumpers are really upset about it. They want this county to stay dry. Now I don't care because I don't drink. But telling people that do drink and are over the age of 21 that they can't buy beer is troubling to me. Especially if the person is a Veteran. To top it off when I go with a person that does buy beer we go to another county. They tell us they hope our county never passes a law because they get a lot of preachers from our county buying alcohol in their counties. Go figure”
