“Sorry, but no sympathy here. McDonald's has education benefits but she stays as a cashier for 10 years then protests her small wage? Jobs like this were never meant for adults who need a living wage raising families, they have traditionally been for kids going through school and most recently, for retirees. In fact, these people are stealing those jobs from our kids. My sister does medical billing for a major rehab facility and makes $14/hr with very good benefits -she's been there for 18 years and feels it's an honest wage for someone who didn't go to college. And we're going to start paying people more to flip burgers and push automated buttons? Like Yakov Smirnoff used to say, "What a country!"”

I have become very close to several Muslims who unlike most Christians I know, live their faith 24/7 - not just on Sundays when it's convenient. BUT .. you have to remember that the devil comes as an angel of light and as kind, humble and genuinely caring these Muslims may be, they are an enemy of the Cross and you have to always remember that. Paul said to examine yourself that ypou truly be in the faith. If you feel like reverting to another faith just because someone is humble and peaceful, you may want to really examine where you actually stand in Christ.”

“No one will argue that Aids needs research but what a lot of people don't realize is that the NIH budget for Aids comes out of the National Cancer Institute's budget. And the percentage is huge. Back in the 90's there was a push to have a separate National Aids Institute but it's never come to pass. Many, many of the PhD researchers were pulled off cancer research and many switched voluntarily because that's where all the grant money was and is. So when you see that the NCI has an almost $5 billion dollar budget this year, it is not all going towards cancer research.”

cynthia allen schenk on Jul 27, 2013 at 20:40:37

“Thank you. You are absolutly right. Today people with AIDS will most likely life full lives. That cannot be said of people with cancer like lung cancer where the five year survival is only 15 percent. It is the number one killer of Americans and yet its number 8 for funding. Per capita of people effected by disease AIDS gets 25 times what cancer does. Why?”

“I think it's because he's thinking outside the box, he hasn't been indoctrinated to the way 'things should be done'. He's also not specialized. He also isn't fighting for what position his name would apprear on the abstract ( I worked at the NCI and this issue, name position, held up publication of my friend's paper for over a year).

I have ovarian cancer and it took 2 years to be diagnosed - even though I had every symptom associated with the disease. But the gastro guy who found nothing never thought to send me for a simple $35 blood test; my gynecologist chalked it up to menopause never thinking to send me for a simple, cheap sonogram. My primary, when I couldn't breathe due to the fluid building up in my lungs, prescribed asthma inhalers rather than sitting down and putting all the data from these other docs together. The entire cancer protocol, from diagnosis to treatment, needs to be completely revamped but like you said, when you follow the money trail, you can see why after billions of dollars over decades, we're not that much farther along.”

“First of all, how dare you judge her. Cancer patients also aren't supposed to have sugar but you know, after chemo sometimes you feel so lousy you just want to have a piece of cheesecake or pie. Terminal cancer patients don't need somebody looking down their noses at people who already feel rotten inside and out.

And as far as the alternatives, well, look at the wonderful results Farrah Fawcett had who spared no expense in getting the best non-chemo Europe had to offer. I am currently in treatment with a woman going back and forth to Germany who is not only on massive Vitamin C therapy but also marijuana. NOT doing well at all. Unless you had cancer and never ate or drank anything 'poisonous' and unless you were cured through 100% alternative methods then just shut your trap.”

“How dare you, "how dare me". Do more research. All I'm doing is pointing out facts. Any "judgement" was read into what I wrote by you. And yes, you live with the consequences of your actions. To deny that, or refuse to talk about it because you're sensitive to the topic is incredibly harmful to all of the people who will get cancer in the future. Quite clearly the harmaceutical industry is never going to publish the "cure". There are many (very effective) plant based "cures" for cancer, but your doctor isn't going to tell you anything about them.

By the time you HAVE cancer, consuming cannabis through traditional means is not enough. It takes concentrates, high CBD strains, and often direct application. Of course, I don't expect you to know that, which is why I brought it up in the first place.”

I have been fighting ovarian cancer for 6 years (in fact I have my 3rd major surgery this Tuesday) and every time I go out, I try to look as healthy as possible. I never went out bald when I've lost my hair because it not just upsets people, but in the back of their minds, they worry that's this will be the face of cancer FOR THEM should they get it. But the truth is that cancer treatment affects everyone very differently, for example, I've had hair during much of my treatment. I want to put a face on cancer, too, especially for a cancer that's a killer that is almost totally ignored, but I want it to be one of hope and encouragement, not of death and mutilation. I'm very sorry for this young woman and I hope someone was inspired by the pictures, but for me personally, I would have kept them private.”

Her advice to the poor writhing in pain? "Offer it up". You fail to realize that the Church created the bible in Ecumenical Council. It did't drop down from heaven written and bound. The Church created it by virtue of her authority given to her by Jesus Christ.”

bd64kcmo on Feb 28, 2013 at 12:56:00

“I agree many aspects of what goes on in the Vatican is distractive and destructive, to say the least. However, if some billions of non Catholics would dust off their glasses and see that the Sunday liturgy is taught direcly from the Biible, and that parishes have frequent Bible study activities, then perhaps they would not go off with ridiculous assumptions that Catholics worship statues, the Pope, do not directly read their Bibles, or any other of this BS, nor would they go off telling the world that Catholics do not follow Christ. By the way I am NOT saying was what you said this, coolmama. Anyway all churches have a pastor, all synagogues have a rabbi, all mosques have an imam, all Buddhist temples have an abbot, so there we are. And Catholic Bibles take several forms but at least they have all 73 books.

Such statements would be bilgewater unworthy of Catholics' fellow Christians to spread around. How many Christians are reading their Bibles every day? I am certain most don’t, Catholic or not. They may read often, perhaps getting spiritually fed many other ways, like Billy Graham's crusade rebroadcasts, or going to church on Sunday. How many Christians go to Church every Sunday? I would say few including Catholics. Catholic ordinances say go to church if you don’t have a communicable illness. As many Protestants, they have Scripture readings followed by teaching from the pulpit. How many other denominations mandate Sunday attendance?”

Should we remove scissors from private hands and only let the professionals handle them? There is nothing wrong with a mentally balanced individual owning a weapon that they have been trained to use and that they store safely. The problem is when a troubled individual like this boy gets access to an unsecured weapon and has freedom to just walk into a school, walk into a classroom, with no barriers. And the people running the school had no defense. He could have walked into that classroom with a bottle of bleach or acid or knives or a bow and arrow and done just as much harm. Unarming the American public is not the answer.”

It doesn't matter what the law says, if someone wants a weapon, or wants to make a bomb in order to harm a group of people it's going to happen. To disarm an entire nation because of a few sick individuals isnt the answer. The answer for these times is for people to be more vigilant and attentive to the people around them. Possibly adjust the HIPPA laws so doctors or school psychologists can raise a red flag when a kid clearly has a problem. And in the case of a child with autism or other diagnosed mental health issues where the kid is mainstreamed, they should be routinley be screened by school psychologists. Other students should be encouraged to report suspicious behavior to authorities or to school officials with a guarantee of no reprecussions. We can secure our schools but should we secure movie theaters, office buildings, entire college camouses - all places that recently had mass shootings. We're living in crazy times and we should be on the alert. We should also all be on the alert this week with all this ridiculous "2012" nonsense. I see it right now across the street from us, our neighbor's son is clearly a very angry, sullen young man but all the mother notices, and brags about constantly, is that he's in the honors program. We've said many times that he's a meltdown waiting to happen and she seems oblivious to it even though her husband had a mental breakdown a few years ago. I think that we're seeing more and more meltdowns because people everywhere are just so frustrated and don't really know why. And that the people around them just can't be bothered, or are too embarrassed, to admit it.”
