“I have a neighbor who moved in 2 years ago. 2 Years later I can't speak Russian and she can't speak English. It make it a bit difficult to be friendly with her. In CA there are like 167 different languages spoken, There is no way I'm going to learn 167 languages, but it would really help if those people would learn one language, the common language of America. Go to Scandinavia. The last 2 or 3 generations all speak English. It's part of their education.”

“The proposed legislation didn't say anything about disarming this Country but only getting as little stricter about who should be able to buy weapons,
felons, people with mental health issues people in this Country illegally, and straw purchasers. You can't ID these without a more comprehensive background check.”

“I haven't seen any thing in the legislation that even mentions "banning guns". Background checks would just decrease the possiblily that those who shouldn't be allowed to buy guns are identified and prevented from these purchases. There is nothing to prevent a legitimate purchaser from buying. There is nothing in the Second Amendment that would prevent background checks.

PS Does this Country really need more than the 275,000,000 guns already in the hands of the public. According to the ATF, of these 275 million, about 100,000 are fully automatic weapons up to and including military type machineguns.”

“Sequestration is a cruel joke perpetrated by Congress and the Administration. Suggested by the Obama Administration and voted for by both Parties. Obama put his stamp of approval on it by not vetoing it and now he wants to blame it on the Republicans. No White House tours. No Blue Angels flying. No Nascar flybys. Air traffic controllers furloughed. Obama is trying to punish the public by making every cut as visible and painful as possible. The GAO recently said it had identified between $100 and $200 billion in waste from ovelapping and duplication of programs, agencies, etc.If anybody deserves to be furlooughed it Congress along with their pay. They are not earning their pay.”

“I take issue with the Mar 2001 to Nov 2001 recession. This was a result of the DOTCOM bubble bursting and the bubble developed during the Clinton administration. Bush had only been in office for a month or so so it's difficult to blame that one on him. You might also remember 9/11 occurred during this time.

I guess you are saying that it doesn't matter who was controlling Congress during these period???

2007 - 2009 Dems hold control of both Houses
1990 - 1991 ditto
1973 - 1975 ditto
1969 - 1970 ditto
1957 - 1958 ditto
1960 - 1961 ditto

PS When people complain about those awful "loophole" that allow the rich to get richer, they seem to forget that Congress(both Parties) created these "loopholes" to help their supporters. If the loopholes are bad, Congress can get rid of them. I'd prefer a complete tax code overhaul. The code has been "kinked" too many times by both Parties.”

“$ has lost up to 50% since 2007 against other key currencies.. 1100% since LBJ began great society. That is why we have record poverty and disparity of wealth.Poverty decreased in our nation from 1946-1962. Then we began our anti-poverty programs. And, poverty has risen ever since. But, with new EPA chief, the fed, and Obama's spedning, we can expect a much weaker dollar and a much higher stock market - and $8-$10 gas.”

“Romney only lost by 3%. 58,000,000 vs Obama 61,000,000. That doesn't look like a wide margin to me. Based on the Electoral votes, it looked like Obama might have a mandate, but if you look at the popular vote, there were a heck of lot of voters who wanted someone other than Obama.

I'm not sure what will happen, except the continual war between the Parties but, as usual, the taxpayers willl lose.”

“I agree,,,, but for now individual the State law regulates most aspects of electoral law, including primaries, the eligibility of voters (beyond the basic constitutional definition), the running of each state’s electoral college, and the running of state and local elections. The United States Constitution defines (to a basic extent) how federal elections are held, in Article One and Article Two and various amendments. The federal government has also been involved in attempts to increase voter turnout, by measures such as the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

It sure would make everybody's life easier if there was a standard for all states.”

“Raising taxes won't really hurt the rich (I wish the breaking line was above $1 million ) but it will hardly put a dent in the deficit, much less the debt. We need a totally overhauled tax code, and a different attitude toward spending. Need to take the $113,000 cap off of Social Security earnings and raise the Medicare rate for those over $250,000”

Griznet on Nov 11, 2012 at 14:12:21

“They always go after raising the age of when a person gets Social Security, but NEVER consider taking off the cap.  That is all that program needs to be solvent for decades to come, but they can't do the easy thing for some reason.  Oh yeah that would mean the poor little rich would actually have to pay more on the MILLIONS.”

Who Won The Popular Vote In 2012?

Commented Nov 11, 2012 at 11:18:30 in Politics

“58,000,000+ rich people??? Plus about 1.7 million who voted for others. Yes, the peculiarities of the "Electoral College" make it look like a landslide/mandate but very close to 50% didn't vote for Obama. I only hope that both parties can put aside their difference and think of the taxpayer, not "special interests".”
