“What she probably meant is not "Harry Potter wasn't even out during my terms as Wasila mayor" but "Harry Potter only came out after my book-banning period".
I haven't fact-checked this, but what is the story on her involvement in having the book "Pastor, I'm gay" (I think it was called) taken from the shelves in local bookstores?”

“I think the whole thing with the Harry Potter stuff was because someone had posted a list of books that one group or another had tried to ban in the US and they incorrectly attributed the list to Palin.
As I recall, Palin made several overtures to the city Librarian about removing books from the library right after she was elected to the city council. Her church had been in a fight with the town to get the book, "Pastor I'm gay", banned. No surprise then that when their darling Sara ran for City Council, her church came out and voted her in. In essence, her church got her elected to the City Council so she could ban a book they didn't like. Gotta love small town politics.
So, instead of just saying that the Harry Potter book was on a list that was incorrectly attributed to her, she went and made yet another dumb comment which is easily debunked. This just adds to the mountain of stupid comments she's made in the past 3 months that goes to her credibility, honesty and integrity.”
“Doing the maths, that's 87% of Americans want her to run for president next time around (assuming Republicans account for 36% of electorate right now). I hope that number somehow filters through to her and inspires her to actually run... as deliberately misleading as that stat is, of course ;-)”
“Buckminster Fuller once defined a racist as someone who believed in race. A fine way of putting it. There's only one race we belong to... the human race.”

“Bucky was pretty smart about a lot of things. Got to reread "Synegetics" and "Critical Path". The world may have caught up with him.”

“Would be nice if people would stop trying to ignore our differences, and instead learn to celebrate our differences. Skin color isn't really the issue I'm speaking of as much as culture, and there ARE differences in cultures. There's not just one culture. We should be embracing our differences, and learning from each other.”
“Obama: don't think you have to appease the old guard. Dump Gates. You have enough people expecting you to really be an agent for change here, rolling back on all the spying, fearmongering, fantasy-based policy making and the like. Don't hamstring yourself by accepting a cuckoo's egg here or in any other of your team choices.
You need to roll back on FISA, on engagement in the illegal wars, the torture, etc. You need to cut the military spending and make the USA safe through diplomacy, re-instating human rights, fighting corruption and getting the economy back on track. Not by digging a bigger hole with the stupid Manifest Destiny and imperialist crap.”
“> Did anyone see the Jon Stewart interview of the current Wasilla Mayor? She is as dumb as Palin.
I saw it, but I didn't see her as dumb. Just didn't have an awful lot to do besides hold a staff meeting one day of the week and sign checks on another. She did seem a little confused by the question of what she did, though, so I can see your point.”
“"we are fooling ourselves if we think the United States is still a Christian nation," she said.
If only that were true. If only the USA dropped the "One Nation Under God" and "Manifest Destiny" schtick and replaced it with something more inclusive and multi-lateral like "One Nation Among Many" (and proud of our diversity!).”
“William Gibson on the end of segregation, among other things http://www.williamgibsonbooks.com/source/agrippa.asp
When the colored restroom
was no longer required
they knocked open the cinderblock
and extended the magazine rack
to new dimensions,
a cool fluorescent cave of dreams
smelling faintly and forever of disinfectant,
perhaps as well of the travelled fears
of those dark uncounted others who,
moving as though contours of hot iron,
were made thus to dance
or not to dance
as the law saw fit.”

is that what you want ? another era of segregation? are you one of the many will make this a race issue?”
