28 Signs You're Dealing With An Oldest Child

28 Signs You're Dealing With An Oldest Child

“HUH? This article starts with news about the release of a new study (first paragraph) then immediately hops to Dalton Conley's book - which was released in 2005! Since it quotes Conley so often, it appears that this article has virtually nothing to do with the new study and is instead just publicity for Conley's old book. What a waste of time and space.”

“That's exactly why I didn't read the article. Just skipped to the captions, which were awesome. Sounds exactly like my oldest. I think this list rings truer, the less number of kids you have. I have only two.”

“We humans like to believe that we are superior to all other lifeforms. Then we subdivide ourselves into thinking some of us are more superior than others. We use, not only our supposed intelligence but material wealth - and violence to ensure we stand at the top of the pile. From prehistoric days until the present (and into the future) we've fought each other for dominance. Will we attempt the same with any aliens? Or, will they do to us what we done to ourselves and other humans? Conquer, subjugate and dominate? We're great at speaking in platitudes but no one is more inhumane than humans to not only each other, but toward our entire world and all the life in it.”

“More likely, parents trying to protect their child from intense, false media glare. Why would you think punishment? Why not parents trying to give their son a chance to have as normal a life as possible? They were under intense scrutiny for years. A lot of people like to think the boy killed his sister but given that he'd been questioned (probably numerous times) its pretty hard for a kid that young to hold onto lies and excuses. With his parents wealth, if he'd done it, they could have had it all handled in juvenile court and gotten him into a treatment program. Perhaps the Ramseys knew or suspected who did it but the killer threatened to kill their son too. Maybe one day the truth will emerge from the fog of mishandling by the authorities but until then, everything is speculation and unreliable.”

Its not that Nurmi is a "lousy" lawyer - its that he no longer wants to put up with her. Gosh. Jodi Arias speaking a truth. Who'd of thought it Can somone get this murderer sentenced? and soon? like yesterday?”

“Um. There are still buggy whip makers out there. For starters, go to any harness racing track. Or just look at any horse/wagon/carriage set up... all have buggy whips (including the Amish and Menonites). Jockeys have whips too. Its a highly skilled craft. (And that's just in America). There are still sword and knife manufacterers too. The buggy whip of the good old days has morphed into a car's acceleraor pedal. Want to get rid of those? All are "tools" - on their own, they are incapable of doing anything.”

“So. How many murders are there? Guns aren't the only weapon ever used. And what % of the population is murdered per year? Or what % of the population in your major cities? I'm guessing you live in a country with a smaller total population than that of many of any one of our states, including the smallest states. Then look at the % of killings to total population in the US. Then we can try to make some comparisons.”

“Zero tolerance = no tolerance. None at all. Lack of common sense is nonsense. And that is what our schools, communities now have. No sense. Zero tolerance is a cop-out, a lame excuse. Rather than deal with the true issues, they throw a blanket over it and hope it'll go away. Human beings have been violent toward each other since the very beginning of human life. "Civilized" societies throughout history have grabbled with this problem. And, in cases like this, no one ever says, "that child-killer" reached his level of zero tolerance and couldn't take it anymore (whatever his "it" was). As humans, we will continue to fail to prevent these situations until we finally realize that it is a human failing - genetic or mental illness, caused by any number of factors that impels one to resort to violence like this. Its not the weapons they use, its that in some terrible way, this child ceased to be the kind of human being we all hope and expect everyone to be.”

“Guns don't kill people.Guns can't do anything by themselves. Messed up people kill people. A gun is just a tool, like a hammer, knife or rock. In the wrong hands, all can be lethal. Ignoring the mentally ill, the abused, the confused and the marginalized is what leads to killings. In the hands, literally, of someone who decides to kill, hands are just as lethal as other "weapons." And its not being simplistic to say that, its saying the obvious and the realistic.”

“Just because you can make false generalizations, doesn't mean you should. Insulting his mother, no matter who she is or what she does, accomplishes nothing. Right now she's a stunned, grieving mother who doesn't need to be falsely judged (or judged at all) by you. Prayers for her, the victims, including the poor child who did this, their families, friends and community.”

“groucho as in Marx? Not too original. Taking someone else's fame for your user name. Sad. because he was a gentleman and you aren't. Sad. Because you think insulting someone you don't know will win your arguments for you. Sad. Because your think your opinion is the only one that is right or matters. Sad. Because with an attitude like yours, you must not have a very happy life. Glad. because I'm not you.”

groucho42 on Oct 20, 2013 at 15:51:37

“That's only half of it, little one. The fact is, art comes from many places and, just as you don't think using Groucho as a moniker is original, we all have our preferences. That your family wasted, IMO, money for an ugly statue is similar.

BTW: Thinking that somebody's art is terrible isn't "insulting them," it's opinion and critique of art. If you don't like it, avoid it.”

And be sure to take the photos from a top view with shadows across the face, okay? and maybe next comment you could try to spell Smoky's name correctly. You've had your sport, mocking a wonderful artist, so now, just move along and bother someone else. Have a great night.”

“You claim to understand art and have no clue about the origination of my name. Sad.

Even sadder, do you write better than all authors whose books you dislike? Are you a better actor or director? A better chef than than those at restaurants where you had a bad meal? You continue to show a very poor understanding about art and critique.

When you finish High School, find a few art classes at your local community college. It might help.”

“LOL I'm not Susan Bahary or part of her family. I am one of Bill Wynne's relatives though and he looked high and low for years before deciding on Susan as the best to sculpt the Smoky bronze. And our entire, huge family are all fans of hers now. Yes, art is subjective but you are the very first person, since the Memorial was dedicated in 2005 to dislike it. And you ARE entitled to your opinion, even if you stand alone in it.”

“ In case you're not old enough to have learned it yet, art is
subjective. Just because you are either Bahary, part of her family or a
fan doesn't mean that other folks can't look at the face of the
sculpture and think she find another line of work.”

IF you're a better sculpture, maybe then you can complain, but that wouldn't be very nice either.”

“I love Comic Sans and use it for all my non-formal emails. Its easy to read. More casual than the others. Not fake like phony script fonts. Use Times Roman for everything that needs to be more formal or business-like but HATE Courier and Arial (except for spreadsheet numbers). If I'm in a funky mood, I'll use the Kristen font.

I think the Combes are just jealous they didn't think of it it first. ;--)

And, BTW, hated that little Microsoft talking dog. I think the Microsoft execs who approved it must have been eating special brownies (maybe from Alice's Restaurant).”

Still, seeing the photos of several paramedics working on him (to save his life) while at least one loaded, ready to go rifle is aimed at his head is rather stupifying... though I know, he was considered very dangerous, its still an odd juxiposition of conflicting sights.”
