Immigration Reform: Senate 'Gang Of Eight' Unveils Proposals (VIDEO)

Immigration Reform: Senate 'Gang Of Eight' Unveils Proposals (VIDEO)

“Unfortunately, Congress has us to the point where we really don't care anymore what they propose, promise, legislate, or agree on. Over the last two years we have become more divided as a nation than ever before, and this bunch supplied the chainsaw that split us apart. And don't go spouting about whose fault it is. The two biggest windbags, Schumer and McCain, should have been sent home a decade ago. They epitomize what is wrong with today's Congress.”

“No it's not.  You're confusing the two separate funds.  Do your homework before you open your mouth.  And it's still a taxation which even Social Security estimates I will not receive a full benefit from.  So, read and learn before you opine.  Smartin Up!”

“We agree in sentiment, but what about those of us who will never, ever, receive from Social Security what we put in? What are we entitled to? Our argument that we are entitled to what we put in dollar for dollar has been rebuffed and even criticized. So this is a tax forced upon us by a government that promises us nothing in return. In 6th grade history class we learned about this revolt whose rally cry was "taxation without representation!" Does anybody else recall this lesson in history?”

BlackandBlueCA on Jan 4, 2013 at 21:12:39

“I don't know how old you are or what your economic status is; however, unless you can see into the future, you don't know if you'll receive 'dollar for dollar' what you put in or not. One bad accident is all it takes to change your life forever. Social Security is more than a guaranteed pension for retirees; it is also available to severely disabled people, orphans & widows/widowers. I would argue that we (as a civilized society) have some obligation to ensure that people who can no longer care for themselves have the resources they need to live...i.e., retirees (because they have come to the end of their work life), the disabled (because they have higher living & medical costs than the larger population), orphans (because their parents are either deceased or otherwise incapable of their support) & widows/widowers (usually an elderly surviving spouse) . That was the history I learned. Your rally cry is inappropriate to Social Security because it is precisely the FICA tax that funds the program.”

U.S. Fiscal Cliff Deal Leaves House Republicans Angry, Deal In Jeopardy

U.S. Fiscal Cliff Deal Leaves House Republicans Angry, Deal In Jeopardy

Commented Jan 1, 2013 at 18:08:21 in Politics

“You give him too much credit.  We go over the cliff for two reasons: first, the two parties refuse to fall into line behind their respective leaders.  The far left dems are not following BO, and Reid no longer represents the party.  The right does not have enough middle of the roaders to follow Mitch McConnel.  Second, and most telling, POTUS failed to seize on the "avert cliff" momentum on New Year's eve and amateurishly chidded the House, and so much saying he wanted additional tax increases in coming years.  Dumb move.”

Tony Sez on Jan 1, 2013 at 20:22:55

“Everyone will forget what he said...and remember the childish tantrum the GOP House threw.  Are you seriously saying, in a way, that it is okay that the House is taking no action because Obama hurt their feelings?  I expect thicker skin from grown-ups.  As for Reid and crew--the Dems have spoken with one voice all through this and, in an odd twist for Democrats, lined up like good soldiers behind the leadership.  Meanwhile, the GOP Speaker's 'plan B' couldn't even be brought to a vote because his own caucus didn't support it and McConnell filibustered his own friggin Bill!  O plays long game and the GOP eats its own.   ”

Did he really need to publicly chicken dance in the end zone yesterday? Now the deal gets pulled back out of spite, and it's POTUS who is to blame. He got most of what he wanted but that was not enough. Both sides are pathetic!”

Tony Sez on Jan 1, 2013 at 17:24:00

“O plays a long game and has studied the Art of War. Polls reflect that most of the Nation will blame the GOP for sending us over the cliff--and as we go over it ALL the sensible tax revenue we need to run the country and pay down the debt while cutting spending is automatic. So, in a sense both parties get a bit of what they want and O gets all the credit and the GOP gets all the blame. That is long game, that is the Art of War.”
