“Nobody is asking anybody to move. If the political climate in MA shifts are you moving, or staying to fight? It seems to me that a lot of the comments here are saying that because the cities listed happen to be in states that are (for now) GOP run that they're somehow unfit to live in or even visit. It's the kind of narrow minded thinking I'd expect to hear at a gated community home owners association meeting, not among self proclaimed progressive thinkers.”

“Nonsense. Your local community quality-of-life will be affected by nothing so much as the effort that you and your neighbors put forth to make your community the kind of place they want to raise their children in. And that's exactly what what makes my home, Kansas City a great place to live, not was does or doesn't happen in Jefferson City.”

TomPaineFan on Aug 12, 2013 at 17:09:14

“Actually, it IS sense, to anyone who knows how our system works.

Under our legal system the great majority of what is and is not done IS determined within the scope of The Law. Most-especially, state law.

More to the point, most law in a representative democracy is a reflection on the values and priorities of the electorate.”

“Sure there are conservatives in these places-Kansas City included, just like there are across the country. But how insecure would you have to be to only want to live surrounded by people who think exactly like you do? And how boring would that life be? I'm happy to live in "flyover country."”

“I'm really shocked at the ignorance being shown in these comments. If you've never been or lived in any of these cities, please spare us the snark. I've lived in Kansas City, Missouri all my life and it's a wonderful, vibrant place to live, grow up and raise a family. And believe it or not, it's also full of creative, progressive, forward-thinking people who don't need a coast or "major city" designation to define them.”

messickc on Aug 12, 2013 at 14:32:10

“I'm not shocked at all. It happens all the time with discussions like this. They are being just as bigoted toward us as they only think we are.

I think they see how badly they are being ripped off with their cost of living and wish they could be like us. It's jealousy, mostly.”

conservluver on Aug 12, 2013 at 14:31:12

“I second that motion! I live in Tulsa and it's a beautiful city. We have theatre, arts, concerts and festivals for all seasons. Not to mention the fresh air and trees and rolling countrysides. The cost of living is low, taxes are reasonable and the people are friendly. And go KC! Have a friend who lives there (almost moved there myself) and have visited there many times. Wonderful people and some great restaurants. Garrazzo's (spelling?) comes to mind first. Is it even still open?”

“"You guys?" Is that like "you people"?

You don't want snob? Fine. How about ignorant. Making blanket judgements and sweeping generalizations about places you know nothing about and the people who live in them that you've never met is the definition of ignorance.

I wish a lot of luck to whatever city is lucky enough to have you living in it.”

“I am from Texas, specifically, and when I was a kid one of the first public experiences I had was being turned away from a white-only MUNICIPAL swimming pool.  My great-grandfather was lynched in your neck of the woods. I had so many colorful experiences growing up with YOU PEOPLE.  Luckily, I've lived all over the world - Munich, Paris, Istanbul, Austin, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and know the difference.  You can call varied experience ignorance all you want.  It reveals your lack of experience.”

“Wrong, wrong, wrong. You should never have the tap nozzle submerged in the beer as she does in the first pour. And If she was pouring correctly, there'd be no need to have to let foam run off as she does. And never begin your Guinness pour straight down the middle of the glass. I'm glad I'm not drinking in her bar.”
