Tea Party Members Meet With Occupy Memphis, Praise Efforts Of Protesters

Commented Nov 19, 2011 at 14:59:43 in Politics

“When people take the time to do things in a civil and orderly way, something "can" be accomplished. I thank the ows members who knew they were outnumbered but took the time to come and give some perspective to the movement. Giving credit where due is a start. I support the tea party strongly, but also see that we aren't the "only" ones who can be right.”

Telemachus on Nov 19, 2011 at 19:52:03

“I'll fan you, too. Normally anybody who says "I support the tea party strongly" is off the list, but you are clearly a thinking person and deserve recognition. Reasonable minds can differ.

If I get all up in your grille about something else later, remind me I said that. ;)”

Steve-G on Nov 19, 2011 at 16:00:36

“I'm glad I fanned you. I'd double fan you if I could. I won't speak for OWS, but just for myself as a supporter. I hope we can agree on at least two things: unequivocal opposition to crony capitalism and our leaders no longer listen to the public, and therefore, no longer represent us. I believe the euro banks are headed for a meltdown and the U.S. will be called upon to bail them out. That is something that must not be allowed to happen. It would consolidate the power of the elite bankers on the backs of the American taxpayer in practical servitude. Second, I think it is necessary to amend the constitution to come up with fair rules for campaign finance. I don't believe taking all money out of politics would be the right course. I don't think its radical to demand transparency (meaning no secret donations from anyone, period), limit the amount any entity union or corporation can contribute to the same as any other individual can to reasonable limits (so no one has more say than anyone) and ban outside groups from funding local and state campaigns that they can't vote in (If you dislike unions from other state's meddling in your elections, you would dislike corporations that have no presence, meaning investment, in your state/local election doing the same. We could ban multi-national corporations based in other countries from funding candidates too, though you may not agree). Thoughts?”

rontheking on Nov 19, 2011 at 15:16:41

“If the TP and OWS could at least agree that the only way to get honest government that works for the majority is through the outlawing of all campaign "donations"--and then work together to get publicly financed campaigns and strict accompanying conflict-of-interest laws over politicians--then maybe we could begin to fix OUR government into one that serves the People instead of the small but incredibly powerful oligarchy....”
