“Cauliflower, leek, garlic, tofu, etc. Yes, there some really great white foods, but, if someone is just starting to overhaul their nutrition, I'll bet they're eating more white bread than they are white fish.
As I said in the title and in the article, these are BASICS for people trying to get started on a long journey toward better nutrition and a healthier lifestyle.

I have the greatest respect for those who chose to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet (as I have myself at times) and the health benefits can be great. Please share your research on non-animal based sources of protein in additional comments if you'd like. I'd love to hear them.
So you can see that if you eat a plant based diet you are getting more than enough protein as long as you are eating enough quality food. My morning smoothy is 25 grams. On the days I run long I may add a scoop of veggie protein powder (22 grams) which probably is not necessary but it is an easy way to get the protein. (Now 47 grams)
Beans, lentils, chickpeas have equivent amounts of protein as beef.”

“Agreed. I do feel though that the book is targeting an audience who perhaps have little experience (as I did) preparing creative and tasty vegetarian options.
I can cook, and I eat healthy, but if you asked to prepare a meal for a vegan or a vegetarian that was balanced and tasty, and indeed, edible, I'd struggle without the help of people like Lora. The word 'carnivore' - although technically inaccurate in this circumstance - caught my eye and drew me to the book.
Lora's book educated me a little and gave me a fresh take on some delicious options. I hope it will do the same for others looking to get more out of their veggies.

I think the thing you may be missing is that the word "carnivore" has become a bit of a derogatory term these days, sometimes used by vegetarians and vegans (jokingly or not) to disparage anyone who doesn't follow their diet. It's even been adopted by some health-conscious omnivores to imply that people eating the SAD are "meat-crazy", when in reality, they're most likely carb and sugar crazy.
So, while a book extolling the virtues of creative, well-prepared vegetables is always welcome, you might try to be more aware that certain buzzwords will immediately turn people off and send up red flags.”

Thank you for promoting healthy diets, and for encouraging people to get creative in the kitchen.
As PancakeHunter pointed out, phrases like "insights into how a carnivore can make friends with veggies", implying, whether intentionally or not, that non-vegetarians are somehow unfamiliar with vegetables and pretty much live off of meat, can push people's buttons, whether justifiably or not, since a common theme among vegetarians is that meat (and for some, eggs and dairy as well) is the prime culprit in our twin epidemics of obesity and diabetes, and so it fits their agenda to exaggerate just how much meat Americans actually eat to the exclusion of other foods. I think meat is perfectly healthy, and I say the same about vegetables as well. If anything, evidence has been piling up that the true culprits may be increased consumption of sugar, refined grains, and industrial seed oils, and that if we could cut back on those foods, we'd be in much better place. I absolutely agree with you that "your average person would benefit from a cleaner, fresher diet".

“Weekend warrior are people who get out and hit there fitness hard on the weekends or in their spare time, often training towards a goal or event.
It's great to see you highlighting climbing as an alternative to the gym. As I mentioned in my article, it's important to get outside and escape the confines of the gym floor. Climbing is also great for challenging your body in multiple planes of motion and for keeping your heart rate up and at varied levels.

I agree with you that a diet that is too high in gains isn't ideal for the average person or those looking to lose a lot of weight.
However, the article is written with weekend warriors or those training at high intensity levels. A higher amount of carbs selected for their high glycemic index should aid their performance without loading up on unnecessary calories.
I hope this clarifies my statement and that you found other positive or helpful information within the article.

To match that level of calorie intake once you add protein and fats I would think we are talking 2-4 hours of high intensity work.
Climbing hard for 2 hours straight is high intensity so is climbing 5 hours alternating climbs with my parter but I don't need that kind of carb load.
Yes the sensible active stretching was nice to see.”
