“It is all about priorities. If you want to go...save for it.

Pack your lunch instead of buying out everyday.
Say no to one night a week of eating out.
Cancel your cable...it's all online folks!
Less wants...stick with the needs.
Don't be a seasonal fashion victim. Be classic.
Do you really need a new car?
Take longer trips instead of short weekend trips...they are cheaper in the long run.

There are too many to mention.”

“What I call Loving it to Death Syndrome...

We all want to see these place, and who can blame anyone for wanting to see the Taj Mahal; but then they all become wildly popular. We love them to death and that kills the golden goose. A fact of life, get over it.

Right now from my window in Oslo, we are loving the new opera building too much!”

“We Americans vacation like no other culture...we are exceptional that is for sure!

We do have serious "Vacation Deficit Disorder" and my new book coming out in May will discuss all these issues...and their are many!

The world is so amazing...sadly, most of us a) can't afford to travel anywhere; b) don't have the time to travel anywhere; and c) aren't interested enough to travel anywhere.

A sad state of affairs!”

“Like lipstick on a pig...

AP writes that AA parent AMR last month indicated it would attempt to "terminate pension plans for 130,000 current and retired employees and hand over the plans' assets and obligations for future payments to a government agency. The airline's unions and the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) opposed the plan to terminate pensions, which would have needed approval from a bankruptcy judge."

Thanks American!”

“I can't complain really, I have only flown 18 segments so far this year. All good! Oh yea, all have been on international carriers!? Come to think of it...Ethiopian Air is better than United Airlines! But that's not saying much.

Air travelers of the world united--just say no and take the bus, train, car or fly an international carrier to really show you care!”

jobee on Jun 14, 2012 at 08:31:55

“The average American traveler who does not travel internationally on international carriers have no idea how nice airlines can be. Try Singapore or Thai. Emirates is pretty good.

Air Asia is a bare bones operation- but their flight attendants are first rate. Even that can make all of the difference.”

As you know, in my latest book America's Vacation Deficit Disorder: Who Stole Your Vacation? (http://www.amazon.com/Americas-Vacation-Deficit-Disorder-Stole/dp/1475979541) We talk about the issues of mandating vacations...but sadly, just mandating it might not change Americans reluctance to actually take the vacations they have been give. But it surely would help!”

“Thanks.

You know Brian I am still trying to figure out exactly what a "hipster" is!? Must be a generational thing.

But what I do think is that younger travelers kind of evolve from cheap travel, backpacking and road trips...to let's say more main stream travel experiences such as romantic getaways and beach vacations with the kids...to older travel modes like package tourism, eco tours and cruises. We all have our own speed, degrees of difficulty and progression. Or, maybe not! :)”

“Well thanks. I get that...

I have a few simple philosophies that dovetail into what you said: allow for serendipity and always be open to trust strangers in strange lands.

We try hard to push people into those twin situations again and again every day and during their entire participation in our annual little around the word travel adventure known as GlobalScavengerHunt.com . At it works.

Keep traveling...and that type of snobbery is okay...sad part is, it is hard to share with none fellow travelers that have also seen the light.”
