“I am no longer a religious dude, but I hope and pray that McCain loses his Senate seat, because wafferlers like McCain are the reason we haven't progressed over the last 30 plus years. Why are we only now having a serious debate on healthcare or taking a firmer stance on Wall Street and the bums who work there. The Maverick McCain and his ilk had the congress for most of Bush's term, and they never once talked about healthcare reform, the only thing that they accomplished was more money for Bush's wars and tax cuts to their rich friends. McCain and politicians like him pretend that they are on the side of the working man, then chooses the side of anyone who can give him enough financial support to keep him in office. I hope folks in Arizona wake up, and let McCain know that America is no country for old me like him!”

“This article reminds me of a quote I came across from Henry Cabot Lodge concerning the different ehtnic groups in America. In 1919 lodge was the leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committie. While the topic of his speech was not immigration or immigrants, he mentions immigration. He said, "we must not forget that we have in this country millions of people of foriegn birth and parentage. We cannot Americanize them if we are continually thrusting them back into the quarrells and difficulties of the country from which they came to us." he continues, "we shall have a large portion of our people voting not on American questions and not on what concerns the United States, but on the issues which concern foreign countries alone," I am an African American, a US Army Veteran and I am proud of the contributions of my ancestors to this land that we call America and as an American from one of the minority groups, I can understand why the people from different ethnic groups like to speak of the pride they have in their birth countries or their parent birth countries, but I do not understand how any American can find comfort in Chicago having lost the bid for the 2016 Games.”

“People who hate Obama, especially republican people, hate him because they can't sum him up in one sentence or phrase. Bush was easy to figure out. Bush was a play cowboy, who believe that the world's problems could be solved with cowboy tactics, and solutions from the gut, without realizing that the gut is the thing that often causes a man to act in haste, which in most cases only worsens the situation. Obama is a thinker, an observer, who finds it necessary to act only after he's constucted a plan around the facts of an issue, rather than the up and down emotional rollercoaster ride that the gut often provides us with. There are times when the gut provides the needed adrenaline to confront an issue, but when the provisions of the gut are not enough to sustain facts, one must delay his reaction or he risk blowing his chance to correct the problem. I often get upset with Obama, because I think he plays too nicely with his enemies, but he shows himself to be the right man for the job, over and over again.”

Pupadup4oBama replied on Sep 26, 2009 at 16:28:57

“Many if not Most White American are not willing or ready to honestly talk about race in America, and neither is Obama as long as he has to depend on Whites to be re-elected. Obama knows this and his advisors know this to be true. Obama will not openly discuss race, because the majority of problems that still exist with America's racism, starts with the attitudes of Whites towards minorities, especially African Americans.”

DiogenesOfAlaska replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 06:39:33

“A long time ago in America, Whites decided that a man with President Obama's racial make-up would be called Black, hence 'the one drop rule." Whites are the reason that most bi-racial children have had a dificult time embracing their White heritage, and if you do not agree with me, then answer this question; Why do the majority of bi-racial people in America find it so easy to identify as African American?”

Rhonnybay replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 07:29:57

“Yes.

This is a "rule" that the powers that be decided but now that more whites are accepting of interracial marriage thus bi-racial children, there's a sudden issue with a bi-racial person self-identifying as Black.

Understand the history of your own country folks. Black people in America didn't develop the "one drop rule".

But to the article....thumbs up. Racism does play a part. Unfortunately, this is the thread of American history and it will be hard to shake. America began with racism with the murder and rape of the indigenous people, the enslavement, rape, and murder of African people, and the jailing and development of concentration camps of/for Japanese AMERICANS.

Too many think because laws have changed things are better. Laws have changed but people are still passing down hate to their children. You can't legally harm someone - so its now covert....or even overt as we see at some rallies.”

Muslim Day of Prayer Expected to Draw Some Unwanted Attention

Commented Sep 20, 2009 at 10:15:42 in Politics

“I am not gay, but I agree with you totally hardcorelib. I was raised in a Christian home in Baton Rouge, LA. My grandfather fought in WW2, my father fought in Vietnam and Korea, my brother and I fought in the Gulf War. My family is African American and my ancestors loved America and served in her wars, even when America did not love them, but I am tired of religious nutjobs pitting us against one another in this country, by attaching their beliefs to patriotism and patriotism to their religions.”

Thabit replied on Sep 20, 2009 at 16:09:29

“The greeting i gave in Arabic was a greeting of peace , the prayer that muslims will do will be for peace too . No where is the state involved in this. If other americans can gather in the mall to voice there wishes for america why would it be different for Muslim americans . Few American reallly know anything about islam , only what a media with a bias and other religions say about us . I challenge you to find out for yourself what Islam is really about , and do it from a muslim . Does a jew like to be defined by a christian? or does a christian like to be defined by a jew . Ask a baptist about a catholic , or a catholic about a baptist and you get reallly ugly storries and distortions when ever you ask . You know this happens so ask a muslim about Islam if you really want to know about us”

President Obama Bad-Mouthed Kanye West -- Now How About Badmouthing the Hatemongers that Vilify Him

Commented Sep 15, 2009 at 15:21:56 in Politics

“it is much easier for Obama to tell Blacks that they must take personal responsibility for the things that they do, which is admirable, but he seems to be reluctant to speak to Whites about what it means to take personal responsibility for ones own actions, because he knows their will be a conservative white backlash like the one he experienced when he decided to give the going back to school speech to all American children or the backlash he experienced from law enforcement after he said that officer Crowley acted "stupidly, when he arrested Professor gates at the professor's own house. The speech he gave to the students was no different than the one he gives to Blacks, whenever he speaks to a Black audience. Bill O'rielly and other conservatives seem to find Obama's speeches on personal responsibility refreshing as long as he's speaking to Blacks and not Whites with such authority. Obama is not crazy, he's confident that Blacks will have his back no matter what, but he can't be so sure about Whites. Maybe Blacks should give his @ss a rude awakening!”

ultrabop replied on Sep 15, 2009 at 16:25:18

“The whole dualistic personality of the Obama soul is of course rooted in the fact that he is both black and white. Bad dad, good mother. Brilliant dad. Good mother. This dualism seems to have personified itself in a personality that is unwilling to take sides. In the academic world this may work where situations don't have to be resolved.

As President of the United States he needs to make a stand for the greater good of the people , the workers, and not the corporate elite.

He is standing on the precipice. I admire him.”

The President and the Vigilantes

Commented Sep 07, 2009 at 15:29:41 in Politics

“I agree with you 100% websmith. Obama has ignored the folks who worked phonelines and walked the neighborhoods to secure his place in the White House. He chose to prop up wall street, while main street was falling. He chose to invite angry republicans to the White House for hotdogs and hamburgers to discuss the stimulus, and took the support he had from progressive Dems for granted. He only chose to notice progressives, when it became clear to him that they/we are tired of him appeasing the angry and hateful conservative re[ublicans and blue dog Dems. His desire to bring Americans of all stripes together is admirable, but he is a terrible judge of character, if he thinks he can turn angry, racist conservative republicans into descent people. Until he learns to see republicans for the liars and cheaters that they are, he will fail at everything he attempts for the remainder of his presidency.”

DesertDivine replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 15:51:43

“Very valid points. But, don't forget our financial crisis is also in a major way the fault of the last party in power ginning up wars and the profiteering that goes with them. The military should be getting the jobs now done by contractors and the likes of Blackwater for six figure salaries while our military guys get peanuts. This deep economic hole was dug a long time ago and now O is just trying to save our butts.

And I must say I am disappointed in ratcheting up the Afghanistan rhetoric. You rarely hear of Al-Qaeda anymore while Karzai lines his pockets with our money . The Taliban is a local problem, unlike Al-Qaeda, and we need to get out and do the work over there covertly if necessary. The billions being spent there could give all of us healthcare.”

If obama isn't ready to just roll over the republicans after all the racist and un-American mess they've displayed during this healthcare debate, then he should just get out of our way, because he'' delaying positive progress for all Americans.”

“LisaLisa, I respect your right to believe as you wish, but your comment is a load of BS. Obama is not addressing the issue at all. As President of all U.S. citizens, it is his duty to address such issues as race, and now would be a great time for him to do it. With the gift of speech that he has been given, he needs to firmly call out each racist congress man or woman and openly say to them and the American people that this will not be tolerated, rather than have Gibbs and other White House Aids downplay the racist comments by stating that they will give idiots like Lynn Jenkins the benefit of the doubt that she didn't mean the comment in the way it came across to 90% of Americans. Obama is afraid of possibly offending White Americans, the way he offended them during that lil' episode with professor Gates and the white officer, who was clearly prejudice, if not racist. Obama is already thinking about his reelection , rather than addressing the truth about the racism coming out of the republican party.”
