“Does the military do a better job at genuine sex education than the public schools do? The lack of reality-based sex ed in many schools in this country can explain why so many members of the military don't understand how not to get pregnant.”

“It takes about six weeks for the toxicology reports to be analyzed. So it's too soon to say at this point that it is "a fact" that she died from natural causes. It just means there weren't obvious symptoms like track-marks. Also, if a member of your family died suddenly at a young age, wouldn't you want an autopsy? If not, why not?”

“-Also, if a member of your family died suddenly at a young age, wouldn't you want an autopsy? If not, why not?-

Some people believe that if they are gone they are gone and what's the point. And - some have trouble accepting what an autopsy does to their loved one - you do know they saw off the top of their head and remove their brains right? And that they split their torso from collar bone to pelvic bone and take everything out to examine it right? Gee - can't imagine why that might upset a guy who's young wife just dropped dead in front of him on a random Monday morning.”

“But, if she was diabetic, that normally doesn't cause cardiac arrest. If she wasn't taking her medicine or eating properly, she could have gone into a diabetic coma.”

EmmaJ76 replied on Dec 21, 2009 at 10:34:26

“Diabetes can cause heart attacks:

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Diabetes-Causes-Heart-Attacks&id=152533

A recent study from Washington University in St Louis may explain why more than 75 percent of diabetics die of heart disease (Journal for the American College of Cardiology, February 7, 2006). The heart muscle of diabetics uses a much higher percentage of fat for energy than that of non-diabetics, to markedly increase risk for heart attacks.

The energy source for heart muscle is mostly sugar and fat, and to a lesser degree, protein. Muscles need far more oxygen to process fat than to process sugar. The blood supply to heart muscle comes from large arteries on the outside of the heart. Diabetics have narrowed arteries because high blood sugar levels cause plaques to form and reduce the diameter of the coronary arteries.”

“"What's Up with That" was actually funny the first time, just not the subsequent times. That's now another fast-forward sketch.

The "repeat sketches" SNL does haven't been very good in years. The "Vincent Price" sketches are sometimes fun, but that's only borderline. Actually, the Keenan Thompson repeat sketch of the bad cable video music show with Andy Samberg as his co-host is sometimes pretty good. "The Rock Obama" is OK from time to time.”

“Jack, absolutely. I record SNL, and Gilly is one of the "immediately fast-forward over" characters. It sounds like I'll be doing a LOT of fast-forwarding over the Christmas Special this year. A shame, because some of them have been classics (like the Tom Hanks as Dean Martin Global warming sketch of about 1989 or so)”

“I also visited Venice in the '70s, and it was a fascinating place to visit. But live there? No. I was there in July in the middle of a garbage and a postal strike, so it was pretty unpleasant. We were in a small, old hotel where you had to pay to take a shower. which was mandatory after a trip to the beach as there had also been an oil spill that week.

Still...touring St. Mark's and the doge's palace and even taking a gondola ride...not the kind of thing you could do anywhere else (the Venetian theme park in Vegas is the Disnified version of Venice).

And the Merano glass factory had a pretty big store before the exit even in the '70s.”

“Women "of a certain age" who are good actors (Mirren, Streep, Dench) get the parts. Demi Moore is certainly very pretty, but she's very erratic in movies. She can do good work (she was very good in G. I. Jane, even if the movie was only so-so)”

AlaskanWannaB replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 00:45:53

“Maybe, if she was trying for a role around her age, she would get more roles. I agree with you about Streep. She seems to get a lot of roles, but she is playing her age. She does not seem to be heavy on the lipo/plastic surgery.

Have anyone seen Sandra Bullock's latest movie? She looks extremely weird, now. She looks plastic! I love her but I think she has ruined her looks via plastic surgery.”

“There are sick people out there. And at least one of them lives in the London, Kentucky area.

Doing Census work is an increasingly difficult job. I worked on the 1980 census in rural southern Ohio (not terribly far from Kentucky), even before the anti-fed rhetoric was as strong as it is now. I heard of co-workers who had dogs set on them, and at least one who was threatened with a gun. I had a man who was angry with me for asking him questions and shook a screwdriver in my face. When I told him to put the screwdriver down, he was offended. Fortunately, his wife came out and answered the questions calmly. In light of the increasing irrationality of some Americans these days, I guess I was lucky.”

“Well, the same was true of Michael Jackson when he was younger. Gary Indiana was very blue collar.

But the difference between Mays and Jackson was that Jackson had something of a history of drug abuse and was under a doctor's care. Mays was due to have hip surgery this week, but as a former football player (in high school anyway) that's not such an extraordinary thing.

Yes, I've lost relatives to smoking. My Dad quit after 49 years and many failed attempts. I really don't like smoking. Still, I think the media shouldn't hush it up to the extent that they are.”

hellostats replied on Jun 12, 2009 at 22:55:27
