Is It Legal? Dogs In The Office

Is It Legal? Dogs In The Office

Commented Aug 18, 2012 at 03:20:46 in Small Business

“What the real issue is is making accommodations for both employees who own dogs and who need service dogs and employees with severe allergies to dog dander and severe phobias relating to dogs.

In-office pet care - like In-office day care - should be offered in most businesses if not all simply because the well being of a dog relies on the owner's ability to interact with it frequently and care for it throughout the day, as they emotionally and physiologically need attention from their caregivers to maintain their health.

If you think dogs and children are not equally entitled to their health and well-being, you are mistaken. Speciesism will mislead you into thinking humans are above any species that exists. But we're animals all the same and some animals capabilities far surpass ours; environmentally, we won't always be favored, and are in fact very vulnerable to endangerment and eventual extinction.”

MyFatCat on Aug 19, 2012 at 23:13:14

“Pets are a way to convey a warm and fuzzy distraction from the point of going to work. I noticed that the article evinced great concern over the landlord and the boss, and nothing at all about other employees. I dearly love all of my animals, but they don't belong in the office--and some of my coworkers definitely don't belong in their pack.”

“I will refer you to my other comment:
I take epilepsy medication. This increases the chance of me having an infant with harlequin-type ichthyosis, or a "harlequin baby." Should my epilepsy become irretractable, meaning I cannot use medication or surgery to alleviate episodes of seizure, I can eat a ketogenic diet to reduce my number of seizures (this, however, doesn't guarantee to treat my condition at all) and may decrease my chances of conceiving a harlequin baby; thus, this invalidates the argument or having my tubes tied or sterilizing myself as I will not always compromise the viability of a fetus after it is born (these babies do not survive long outside of the uterus).
However, if I'm raped whilst on medication (increasing the chance of a harlequin baby) and cannot access a too-distant ob/gyn or ob/gyn clinic due to finances, lack of transportation, or a number of legitimate reasons, and I can only receive treatment via a doctor's appointment through the telephone/webcam or in person after the 20 weeks, I can no longer stop the fetus' inevitable fate: minutes of excruciating pain.
You're compromising the life of that fetus if you prevent the pregnancy from being terminated, and your legislation will be the cause of that fetus' suffering. I'm not at fault if all ethical options are made unavailable.”

Deductive reasoning? Society makes victims of sexual abuse ashamed for something that is very much not their fault.
Go and learn about the culture of rape our society promotes and then come talk to me, we'll be on the same level.”

“You give men and other women the okay to call them "hysterical females" by deciphering her tone out of context and calling a response to trauma "overly emotive."

Do you expect one to act otherwise after sexual misconduct?

It's sad that there is some sexism inherent in medicine too - note how we have held on to terms like hysterectomy, deriving from the Greek word for uterus, an organ Hippocrates believed moved around in women causing various ailments to whatever part of the body it touched. And if it touched your brain, well, that was certainly proof enough then that a uterus caused insanity.

An RN is no Psy.D.”

“According to this piece, this event happened over and over. What's THAT all about? Things sometimes are not what they seem.

Well, yes,may a "hyster" does make you insane.

If she was so "molested", then why didn't she say so after about the 3rd or 4th time? Go figure.
You are not exactly an Einstein yourself. How about some "deductive reasoning"?”

“Hi, ever see the video of the Italian doctor groping his female patient? Yeah, it's called medical malpractice, it happens in the US and in every other imaginable profession.

Just because there is a protocol in place does not mean every professional honors it. Less than honest people exist in all fields.

My doctor just started having assistants present in the exam room with me two weeks ago after coming to him repeatedly for an endocrine problem.”

“"There," can mean outside of the exam room, and if he was outside during the exam room then I imagine the doctor would have asked the Mom to step out as well (and they do it all the time after age 14 on physicals for a "personal chat" with the young patient).”

“It is attitudes and comments like the ones expressed by secondcoming, ddoughty, Rita Bridges Scott, Wapitibowhunters, WminPhoenix, Rallen99, 123deanna, babewalkinaround, mozby41, Brent Hall, and nothingtodojustchecking that perpetuate violence against women, and in this case, sexual violence.

Aside from the shame, guilt, and embarrassment you are undeservedly compelled to feel, the attitude that women who come forward with these incidents later on when they have the courage to or have compartmentalized the trauma of the event, are deceitful, looking for attention, or in any other disgusting way you can find to say she is "crying wolf," you perpetuate the secrecy of sexual assault; you make women ashamed to go to the police; you make the victim an unwitting accomplice in her sexual assault.

I cannot believe the HuffPost is tolerating the insolence and sheer vitriol spewed forth by the aforementioned posters, unless it's to make clear to society that the war on women is in full swing, people.”

“And that fetus' dependency is why rights is a complicated issue. Forcing the woman to bring it to term imposes enormous strain on a woman's body/job/education and the fetus' life.

“What about protecting my life, and how I choose to live it? Pregnancy is one of those (probably the only) rare instances where the right of two individuals directly violates the rights of the other - that means the right to abort a fetus violates the fetus' right to control its own body, but an would-be aborted fetus also violates the woman's right to control her own body.

The mere presence of an unwanted fetus is in violation of another's life.”

lioncarern on Jun 12, 2012 at 15:23:44

“What about not getting pregnant if your health is so fragile? If your health is that fragile, most chemical birth control would not be in your best interest either. Of course that is just a convenient excuse many use to justify killing someone they were partly responsible for creating, when they do not want to accept personal responsibility for their actions.”

lioncarern on Jun 11, 2012 at 21:21:50

“You made the choice to risk getting pregnant when you had sex. Try the concept of personal responsibility. It's priceless.”
