“smaller government does not make more moral government.............you are just relying on the practice of magical thinking. If I repeat smaller government enough it will come to pass. smaller government is just less for the special interests to control...........unless of course your smaller government is no government then you have anarchy, no control at all...........................”

I am not counting on smaller government to be governed by more moral people. Smaller government is simply more transparent and accessible. So in my community, I can keep close tabs on where the money goes and who is doing what.
But let me use your words. You say "smaller government is just less for special interests to control". Well....ding, ding, ding ding....we have a winner! Instead of sending money and power to Washington, why not keep the money and power in the hands of the people? And their local governments? Shifting money and power to Washington simply increases the size of the trough and works against the interests of the People, whether they be from the right or the left.”
“LOL, you think the power vacuum of your "smaller government" will not be filled by the church or corporations? your smaller government will not be controlled by special interests? How does it make it harder for special interests to control smaller government?
Government is people, you are anthropomorphizing government as if it is being unto itself.”

“I live in a community of 1,200 homes. We have a home owner's association. I can pretty much tell you where every penny of my fees go.
At the federal level, we have HUD mysteriously losing $42 billion and we have spent $100 billion on "green" companies during the past five years.....90% of which have failed.
The bigger the size of government, the more waste and fraud you get and the more special interests control policy. If this wasn't the case, billions wouldn't be spent by special interest lobbyists. Unfortunately, the only entity that doesn't have a lobby group in Washington is the American People.”
“There is no mandated government abortion in this country, the mandate is for insurance that women can choose to use for BC and while their are Catholics who would agree with you, you don't speak for all of them.
Your statement is just half truths and platitudes, propaganda.
I thought Christians were supposed to be honest, you seem to have a problem with that.......................”

“The government is mandating Catholic Hospitals; Catholic Universites to cover their employees and offer them something against our conscience.”
“we elect or do not re-elect Congressmen.........and no matter how much the conspiracy theorists might want to think it so, Obama does not get to remove them by executive order.”

“Apologize for not reading past the headline :) But, if a republican is involved then am suspect of motive and truthfulness. Just a gut reaction after years of listening to lies and watching them rob our treasury.”
“The GOP is not adverse to increasing the size of the government, they just want to make sure they are the ones increasing it........for example..........the Bush Admins.........it is only an injustice when the dems are doing it............”
“past is not the past if you keep repeating it and neither the Dem party nor the GOP is the same as they were. Are you really saying that the Democratic party of 1850 is the same as today? not even close”

“No, but in the context of this article I am saying groups should not be judged by what members in the past have done.”
“technically is the key word there, since the proponents of slavery, jim crow and those who opposed civil rights legislation were people trying to maintain the traditional social and economic institutions of slavery and white supremacy.
Those people who were abolitionists and opposed jim crow were progressives of their time.
The pro slavery dems complained of the oppressive federal government and were proponents of states rights.
The current GOP is not progressive and they promote states rights and fear the federal government.
Does not matter what party they belong to............they were conservatives.”

“It was the exact same party that is alive and well today though. My only point is the past is the past. Gays didn't have life to easy with a lot of people in the 80's.”
“the power of governance through the sympathetic magic of ideology..............not mention that the bag er right is littered with paranoiac subcultures and organizations turning out conspiracy theories on a regular basis. yyyeeesh”
