Experts agree that the media must stop blowing up these stories so big. Shame on you, Arianna! Stop running theses stories on the top of the page and no more pictures of the shooter or crime scene and no more biographical stories about the shooter!!”

“Efforts should be made to protect the natural habitats of parrots, and parrot ownership should be discouraged. I grew up with an aviary full of birds and still have two old parrots ( one in his 40's, the other 50 ). I give them attention and feed them well, but birds should be free to fly and live with others of their kind. They can not be mentally healthy in captivity.”

“If a government favors marriage with the granting of rights associated with marriage, or tax advantages or even disadvantages, then it should be incumbent upon them to prove that their interest has a basis in fact for society's well being. I have not seen strong evidence that this is so. Why is the government involved in the business of marriage? Marriage should solely be the purview of religious institutions (or non-religious ones), free to make whatever rules they so choose. Furthermore it is inherently unfair for corporations to grant benefits to the married but not the unmarried. Many people do not marry, not out of choice, but because they can't find a partner, but regardless of the reasons, it is still unfair. If a corp, for instance, extends healthcare benefits to a spouse, say, then I believe they should extend that benefit to anybody that the employee so chooses. It being a benefit actually given to the employee, they should be able to assign it as they wish. Currently marriage is more often found in the (relatively) wealthy, non-black communities and even there the divorce rates are huge (around 50%). While I support gay marriage as long as the government is involved, I really believe, like love, that it should have nothing to do with it....”

ShinjiIkari on Jul 1, 2011 at 22:21:29

“When I got married, I had to (a) register at the county seat and (b) get a legally mandated syphilis test. Two practical requirements; religion was optional.”

freedom4allau on Jul 1, 2011 at 22:17:53

“There is one item which is incorrect in your note. Marriage is a part of the government. The marriage license is issued by the government. The church performs the wedding ceremony. The two are completely different animals, if you will. Without a marriage license, the church can do all the waving of incense, chanting, praying, whatever they wish to do, but it is not a legal binding agreement, at least in the eyes of the government.”

“Chinese zoos are known to be absolutely horrible. When you go to the zoo to see the Pandas, they will not show you other areas of the zoo if you are a foreigner, while admitting it is because the conditions for the other animals are so atrocious. As bad as this atmosphere is for the Pandas, it is WAY worse for the other animals. This is really indicative of China as a whole, most of what you are able to see as a tourist is intended to give you a favorable impression while they hide the dirty aspects of the country. The Chinese may have a lot of savings, but in the end, a closed society like theirs can never compete with an open one like our own. Talk about a "paper tiger"...”

“Regarding sensitivity: When the brain is constantly bombarded with a particular stimuli, it adapts, and reduces its perceived intensity so as not to distract from other stimuli. So actually a "sensitive" uncircumcised penis, always rubbing against the foreskin becomes less sensitive just as one that rubs on clothing does and they end of being pretty equal.”

Mac is Back on Jun 11, 2011 at 12:26:15

“The foreskin never "rubs" against the head of the penis, that's not how it works- I guess you'd need one to understand exactly. It's more like a cover that rolls across, always positioned in the same place. Sorry you were cut against your will- I still feel that modifying the genitals of an infant is strange, unnecessary, detrimental, painful, and weird. I truly believe that one day the world will look back at circumcision as a barbaric and strange practice. The only thing allowing such practices to continue are religious traditions and social acceptance- both of which have been challenged historically before, and will be again. I'm truly happy the world has moved on from leaches for curing, and animal and human sacrifice to appease a deity, now lets hope society can move past cutting up the genitals of infants... fingers crossed! (legs too)”

ramp613 on Jun 11, 2011 at 07:28:56

“Nope, wrong.

According to a report published in the British Journal of Urology, the ridged band at the tip of the foreskin is the most sensitive part of an intact male's genitals. And the ridged band is more sensisitve than the most sensitive part of a circ'ed male's genitals.”

jsrl317 on Jun 11, 2011 at 04:35:25

“That is not a smart statement.”

Mammamia on Jun 11, 2011 at 00:53:41
