“Mixed feelings on this. Kudos to the young lady for standing up for women and being a strong young feminist. Thumbs down for the adults who actively practiced censorship over these books. It sends the wrong message to kids that we can cause literature that we find abhorant just "disappear" off the shelves. The Catcher in the Rye and Huckleberry Finn are not politically correct, but should still be protected by a law to live in our libraries (one would hope). Of course, bookstores have the right to pick and choose what they sell. A letter to the author/publisher, an organized boycott and a public protest of the book (which they did) would suffice. We are fortunate to live in a country were, at least in theory, all points of view can be represented and protected under the Bill of Rights. Boycott buying the book, certainly, -- Censorship, please, no.”
And why do these Robber Barron lackeys keep getting elected?
And why do people who disagree with the Rep agenda choose not to run for office, or at the very least GET OUT AND VOTE?
And why do we allow decisions like Citizen's United and the latest SOTUS gutting of the Civil Rights Act go without any longterm major protest?
And why isn't everybody clogging the streets and the DC phonelines regarding the egregeous jocking to hinder our rights to vote and blatant jerrymandering which is targeting in the poor, the elderly and disenfrancised people of color in cities and rural areas?”
“Hm. My daughters are fans of the latest incarnation of MLP. Both are per-teen and were raised in a feminist home. At first I was concerned, but after watching a couple of episodes on the Hub with them it's clear that this iteration is clever, funny writing for kids and focuses on kindness and friendship. All of the rulers are women in this universe. I think you "kids" are kicking the wrong horse here. Keep going after the diznneee princesses, by all means. please.”
“Steven Spielberg appreciates that you went to see Lincoln. Fast forward to the 1960's - then the segregationist loving Dixiecrats who were rooted in that awful slave owning past morphed into the new Southern Strategy GOP via Nixon and Lee Atwater. History is as history does, genius.”
“Can't love others if you can't love yourself OR if all you love is yourself, it may take up all the time you could be spending loving others (or at least not basing your socio-political worldview hating them.)”
