“I love to cook but as someone who was a Girl Scout and who has been a long time Girl Scout mom, I hope people will buy from the girls as the funds benefit poorer girls who could otherwise not afford to be scouts and enjoy the programs that help girls be all they can be.”
“No one is condemning anyone to poverty. There are free high schools, free public libraries and plenty of grants and loans for the poor to go to college. That is what I did. Others can too and I came from dire circumstances. Many people are happy at Wal-Mart. I worked there while getting educated and was grateful to have the job as I prepared for something much better. They pay what is required by law and most of the workers I met while working there and since are too busy buying beer and cigarettes and having another kid to think of education, others have no concept of using a budget, and many others are happy enough. Their spouse or parents or others bring in income too.”
“This is a capitalistic country. Businesses are for profit and their goal is to make profit for owners and shareholders,. It is up to the individual to prepare for a well-paid career. If they don't, they have to take low paid menial work. Wal-Mart offers just that. It is not Wal-Mart's job to organize their lives. They have to either qualify for better paid jobs or work 2 jobs or get room mates and stop having kids they can't afford. It is about personal responsibility. This is not a communist country.”
“Wal-Mart starts at minimum wage just as Kroger, Aldi, and Ross does. This is not sweat shop wages. No store is required to pay more than minimum and if you want more, you need to get the training and education required to qualify for such jobs. That is the responsibility of the worker. How people manage their budget is up to them. They need to not have kids they can't afford, and live with family, a spouse, or room mates within a budget. All the Wal-Mart workers I know are happy to work today as they get holiday pay and still eat Thanksgiving meals with their families. As for Medicaid, you can only get on if you are under 18 (Wal-Mart doesn't hire people under 18), over 65 and on SSI or very low income, have cervical cancer, can get SS disability (having proven they can't work at any job), or are pregnant (but just until 6 weeks after the baby is born).”
“The law only requires minimum wage and does not say anyone has to offer benefits. If they want health care and a living wage, they need to go get the training and education required to qualify for such jobs.”
“We are now a service and information society rather than a manufacturing one. This means people have to go with the flow and prepare for careers in service industries and information industries. We are no longer making that much in the USA.”
“You are right. No one is forced to work at Wal-Mart and you are told the salary and benefits when hired. If two people working at Wal-Mart can't pay down their bills, why did they create such bills?”

“Thanks. My comments usually put a big bullseye on me.
I "suspected" that every once in a while I am right. The "cure" for all retail workers working on a Holiday is for purchasers to stay home. But, even the agitators may discover that they forgot the milk.
I remember such "outdated" phrases as "live within your means," "put something away for a rainy day," and "money will not buy happiness."
For Walmart workers whom the agitators claim are treated sooooo badly, one certainly does not encounter many unfriendly, unhelpful employees. But, maybe the agitators' audience consists of people who never enter a Walmart - perhaps New York Times' executives.
Are there any Walmarts in Manhattan? I do not think so. Unions you know. The same sort of unions who are "so concerned" about people that they sent Alabama utility crews back to Alabama after Hurricane Sandy.”
“Poffrono, the only "boycott" is that people like me choose not to offer our dollars to a man who will take his profit and fund hate organizations with it. And how would you know a homophobe upon just looking at him or her? You can't! As for the turn out, did you know that Chick fil A did a massive email about this day and sent out millions of coupons for a free chick fil A sandwich on this particular day? No one is attacking Christians. Many christians are among the tens of millions of heterosexuals who choose not to eat there and let their dollars go to a man who is then going to use it to fund groups who seek to make discrimination part of the law.”
manntxs on Aug 2, 2012 at 21:07:13
“again...show your proof of the massive email with a free coupon”
“The Klan was always able to gather a crowd in the red states too. Keep in mind that Chick-Fil-A also sent out massive numbers of emails with a coupon for one chick fil a sandwich to people including vegans like me to download. Likely people showed up for the freebie and the bigots also wanted to rally around a fellow bigot.”
manntxs on Aug 2, 2012 at 21:05:47
“Please show your proof. I did a search, actually three different ways, and the only hit that stated that was here on this page. So, please point to a reputable link showing that.”
Mike Wendeler on Aug 2, 2012 at 20:37:25
“Are you really comparing people that eat at Chick fil a to Klansmen? Are you really that stupid?”
bettestreep on Aug 2, 2012 at 20:08:05
“F & F
I didn't know about the coupons they were handing out.
So the huge crowds had a mixture of racists, rednecks, homophobes and people there soley for a free sandwich.
Now it's time for the LGBT community and supporters of gay rights to turn up at a 'GAY-FRIENDLY' fast food chain to prove a point.
What odds that these protesters will be met with violence by the people who attended Chuckafilla yesterday???”
“Here's a thought for Mittens Romney- how about that Romneycare the Affordable Care Act was inspired by? You know, the law Mittens helped write and voted into law which said that all Massachusetts residents were mandated to buy health insurance from private companies or face a financial penalty/tax?”
“It sounded like the passengers were hassling and abusing him about delays he had no control over and he gave them a taste of their own medicine and a chance to get out and walk to their destination or maybe do a rain dance and change the weather. I understand some passengers were berating him first and taking out their anger on him, demanding a free flight because the airline could not control the weather.”
“I only travel first class myself but I avoid any airline like Southwest that is just plain rude and hateful to people of size (though I am not one of them). Why don't they have some seats especially for people of size available or do they not understand that all the seats in 2nd class seating (economy) are too small? They might even add to their business when more heavy people know they could travel comfortably.”
startingsomething on May 6, 2012 at 03:59:31
“It is not second class-it is coach-the cheapest airfare there is. To accommodate persons of size with BIGGER seats, would mean that all would pay more to get on planes.
Add to their business? No, they would loose money.”
ruffiane241 on May 5, 2012 at 19:19:26
“Melanie... heavy people CAN travel comfortably - all they need do is purchase seating according to their size. If the airlines re-configured their seating to accommodate obese passengers in coach, there would be less seating overall, resulting in higher ticket prices, thus all other ticket purchasers would end up funding the "extra room". IMO that is not a solution.
And, 2 coach seats are often less costly than 1 first class seat.”
“This was the lady's first airplane flight so no, she cannot be expected to know whether she would fit in the seats or not. She had also worked hard for two years to lose 120 pounds so far. I guess since she isn't anorexic you don't deem her worthy of being treated as respectfully as others who don't have a weight problem judging from your rude, hateful comment about shamu. I suspect she is a better person that you are. It was up to the airline to tell her in advance of her options, not humiliate her upon arrival on the plane in front of others. Most people don't show up with enough money to buy a second seat on the spot. I only travel first class and perhaps she should too. You can sit in the skinny second class seats she vacates.”
urkiddinme on May 6, 2012 at 07:52:56
“No, she is a frequent air traveler; she writes a "weight loss blog" that details her adventures all over the country. This was far from the first time she's flown on a plane.”
startingsomething on May 5, 2012 at 19:56:53
“No she was on an earlier flight were they let her through-probably not full and on her return flight they told her she would have to buy another seat.
The better person would be the one who knew they were morbidly obese, therefore needing more than one seat to not sit on/in the seatmate next to them.”
“That old sexist clown on a golden throne in Vatican city does NOT control my uterus. He promotes christian mythology and endless breeding so that he can continue to reap the financial benefits. Adolph Hitler was a devout Catholic who wrote in Mein Kampf and said in his speeches that he killed Jews because "Jews killed Jesus" despite there never having been an historical Jesus. The Catholic church didn't say one word against what the Nazis were doing to Jews. I have news for this old man and his fellow sexist fossils who run the Catholic church- there is a HUGE difference in a 1/2 inch long piece of tissue inside a woman's body and in a full grown living man or woman and in even a newborn baby.”
Asmondius on May 6, 2012 at 23:03:15
“Once you say Hitler was a 'devout Catholic' your credibilty goes out the window.”
shakesome on May 5, 2012 at 18:59:16
“Hitler was never a 'devout Catholic'. He is on record as being opposed to religion in general Christianity in particular as he wanted strong and ruthless followers, not meek and peaceful. He believed Christians to be weak. His religion was ancestor-worship, Paganism, the occult, and of course the religion of all those who hate religion: worship of The State (socialism).”
“Actually there are more Atheists/Agnostics than 1.5%. Many people , even when polled anonymously, will say they belong to whatever religion they were born in even if they are not a believer or attend simply because so many ignorant, bigoted christians hate Atheists and Agnostics and many fear identifying themselves as such. It is like a gay who is afraid to come out of the closet because of the abuse they will face.
I know a number of people who tell people they are Jews or Christians just because they are afraid of the fallout that will occur because christians are arrogant and intolerant and will literally drop someone from their lives they claimed to love because that person is now an Atheist. Read Dan Barker's book GODLESS to see what happened to him (he was an evangelist who sought to prove the bible was true and is now an Atheist and co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation www.ffrf.org ) I know one such man who is a choir director in a large Baptist church.”
Galaxie on Apr 22, 2012 at 17:26:40
“Exactly... Believers hate atheists more than they hate gays.. The one difference, we can lie and say we believe in order to blend in.”
CabinAgue on Apr 20, 2012 at 19:33:42
“There is now research (challenging, obviously) into clergy who are atheists. But they remain as clergy, unhappy but feeling trapped and under obligation.
I find it fascinating.”

“True, the number is probably closer to 8%, but most won't admit it”
“Actually billions are deluded into believing in hundreds of different religions including the Flying spaghetti monster, Shiva, Jesus (who did not exist historically), Zeus, etc. When people did not understand something or wanted to control others, they created gods and stories about gods. People have been brainwashed by others into thinking a certain religion is true and convince themselves of it. That is not proof. That is emotion. That is weakness and needing a crutch and an imaginary friend. Pathetic.”
FollowTheTruth on Apr 20, 2012 at 16:31:58
“Jesus (who did not exist historically)
So why do the Muslims call him another prophet and why do the Jews not accept him as the Messiah?
I guess you are right and billions of people are wrong.”
Noble9 on Apr 20, 2012 at 13:54:45
“And some people come to religion on their own, without any "brainwashing".”
“The brain is affected by one's thoughts and emotions. If you have been taught- brainwashed- into believing there are gods and goddesses and you convince yourself of it, there will be an effect on the right side of the brain (the left is too logical and smart and the right is touchy-feely and full of emotion). This is like saying there is a Mother Goose side of your brain or a Santa spot in the brain. If you have been raised to believe it and you do believe in Mother Goose or Santa (or both), they too will have a spot in your brain.,”

“Jesus..even if you don't believe HIM to be son of GOD existed. His family line of David shows this..Even Muslims acknowledge him as a Prophet.. Agnostics have acknowledged his existence. Does being a pagan, no disrespect intended, mean you can just pick and choose which truths to believe or which LIES to believe. Must come in handy..Do you believe in Lucky Charms leprecaun ? Wizard of OZ? Samantha Stevens, Harry Potter ?”

“There was no historical jesus- the entire story was borrowed from much older myths- so "jesus" wasn't buried anywhere.”
sowlow8 on Apr 9, 2012 at 15:45:00
“Most myths come from other folks that were conquered or did conquered the Hebrews, like Daniel in Babylonia, or Joseph in Egypt, they were aware of the Moses writing and of the coming of the Messiah مسيح, and the same one that would burse the head of the serpent, but God did not revile the name of Jesus until it was time”

A Jewish carpenter from Nazareth who became a Rabbi before he was crucified by the Roman Empire, due to his opposition to the Sanhedrin. How many times have we heard THAT one...”

“We, yes. The only reason that may seem agreable is the words "christian mythology" was inserted, place anything else in there and most would disagree and call him pathetic. How about if "ufo-ology", "dr. who", "drug abuse" or "norse mythology" - and all the christian's say.. "How pathetic."”
