New Mexico Gun Shop, Gunhawk Firearms, Angers Animal Rights Groups With Hunting Contest

“I'm a local and a horse owner and rider for over 30 years in New Mexico, including some pretty remote areas. No injuries to my horses due to prairie dogs, ever. The wildlife killing contests are commercial, fund-raising events. They bear no resemblance to hunting the way I learned to hunt. The contests are mass killing of wildlife for pleasure, publicity, and profit. The contestants and the promoters help no one because the goal is to kill as many animals as possible to win a prize. The contestants do not target animals who are causing any particular problem. They are certainly no help to those of us who have always been quite capable of protecting our own horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats. The contestants' and promoters' self-proclaimed "altruism" is nonsense and has been discredited again and again. Just to be clear, these contests are not limited to New Mexico. They can be found all over the U.S.

Expensive rifles, high-power optics, electronic distress calls operated with a remote control, long-distance shooting of coyotes, long-distance shooting of tiny prairie dogs while sitting on one's butt at a shooting table -- that is the reality of these contests. The body count at the end determines the "winner". The contestants cannot resist bragging and posting photos and video of themselves on the internet. See it for yourself. So, no more spin about wildlife killing contests. See them for what they are.”

“Let's all get some perspective. Neither Tina Brown nor Joe Scarborough have enough talent to sing or act. They talk...and talk. By contrast, James Franco and Anne Hathaway are young, multi-talented entertainers and they did very well as actors who were provided a script. And when it comes right down to it, do we really give a damn who is hosting? The show itself is nothing more than an announcement of who won a contest long after the votes were actually counted. I love movies -- good ones and really bad ones. People who tell stories are interesting. Joe and Tina are just jealous...and showing their age. Full disclosure: I'm 57 and I don't have cable. Articles like this one confirm that I'm not missing very much.”

“It doesn't matter if she is Irving Younger reincarnated. If Baucus is getting naked with her, then he's got no business nominating her for anything. The US Senate is full of people who have grown accustomed to the lack of oversight on their activities. They rarely answer to anyone except once every six years and incumbents are, more often than not, re-elected. A person living in that rarefied air could lose the sense of what is smells right and what stinks. Add Baucus to that list.”
Ambulances Charging Extra For Obese Patients

Ambulances Charging Extra For Obese Patients

Commented Oct 23, 2009 at 15:53:40 in Business

“Health care providers are exposed daily to every disease imaginable -- H1N1, active TB, and stuff we don't even know what it is. That is the average day at work for the average health care provider in a hospital. So don't tell us we don't care or that we lack compassion. That's just bullshit.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with acknowledging and charging for the fact that people who are 350lbs and greater are more difficult to take care of. They are sicker and use more resources than folks who maintain a reasonable body weight. They should bear the financial burden of the additional needs created by their physical burden.

We are starting to witness more and more people who are too fat for hospital beds and gurneys. Reliable statistics indicate that we should expect to see even more of this phenomenon.

Charging more for people who are extremely obese is not evil or nefarious, it's reality.”

“They could have taken out their money at any time; they didn't. To the Madoff clients who say that the government should have done more sooner, doesn't that mean that you would be in the same situation you're in now, only sooner? Am I missing something?

Sorry about your loss, but whether your loss results from fraud (you) or from the fact that you held mutual funds and stocks a little too long (many of us), it's still your loss and my loss as individuals, not the taxpayers.

Finally, I'd be more than a little embarrassed to appear in that video with the cheesy background music and the sanctimonious and hypocritical position -- the government should have done more to save me from myself.”
