“I just love that... "nothing to have a monument for." Implying that, since atheists do not believe in a god that they, therefore, do not believe in anything.”

“No that's not what I'm implying or saying in any way, what I'm saying is the non belief in a supreme entity, would dictate that no monument to would be appropriate, as there's nothing to worship.”

“What do you mean "ignorance of History"? That is a direct quote from the Treaty of Tripoli, ratified by the US Senate and signed by President John Adams in 1797. That IS History. Also, I agree with your last statement. Ignorance of History is immeasurably tragic.”

“True... but it could also be that the people in those societies have a genetic predisposition for higher metabolisms. Not to say that those with lower metabolisms SHOULD be fat, or just give up, but it is harder. Much harder, especially in societies where food it as much a social function as a nutritional function.”

“$28.31? Hah, way to stereotype. There are a good number of "us" that have significantly more than $28.31 in our checking, savings, money market, and CD accounts. Also, when I travel outside of the US, or inside for that matter, I make sure that I have cash, travellers checks, my checkbook, and my debit card. It's called preparation... Also, supporting your local credit unions directly supports your local community. So, if a significant number of people close their accounts, then yeah, take that big banks... smh.”

The Fleecing of Generation Y

Commented Sep 23, 2011 at 00:24:30 in Arts

“Classic "Corporatism"... let's call it what it is and stop pretending that we live under a Capitalist economic system. Just because we CALL it Capitalist doesn't mean that it is... We're on a fast train, from a Democracy to an Oligarchical and/or Plutocratical political system. The only way to derail it will be to disengage Corporations and Government... much easier said than done since the vast majority of the American public has supported this farce of Capitalism for so long.”

Vrano on Sep 23, 2011 at 07:04:02

“I would have to agree with you on this one, and I am a conservative. We have moved away from a capitalist system into a corporatist one. One that many of us do not like or feel comfortable with having. Where we part ways on this is in what direction we want to move from here to getting away from this type of system, and that is perhaps where the greatest division between the left and right comes from.”

Postal Service Struggles: What Would The U.S. Do Without Mail?

“I'd be fine without the post office and if most people got out of the stone ages then so would they. You can send letters by Fedex or UPS almost as cheaply (really, when do you send letters?), or send an email for free. All of my bills are online, newspapers are available online, you can send birthday cards WITH money attached through the Western Union website for a fee of a couple bucks. Magazine companies would simply up their subscription price by a few bucks and fedes or UPS everything. The only thing that I get in my mailbox is the random bill from local companies that don't do online billing (yet) and junkmail/credit card offers which I would gladly do without. The only bad or sad thing about losing the USPS is the loss of jobs for people that really have no where else to go.”

“THANK YOU! I've been saying this for years! Americans are undereducated and lulled into complacency. For some reason they seem to think that the government is over the people rather than the other way around (and the government works to reinforce this image). Americans need to realize that WE 'could be' in control if only we'd educate ourselves, think and stand up to the politicians. WE are to be represented by them and we DO NOT have to following along meekly as they ignore our wants and needs. It starts at election time and continues through communication with elected representatives (via many available avenues). MAKE YOUR "EDUCATED" VOICE HEARD PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!”

“If I could favorite this a million times I'd do it! I mean, I could see a Joint Committee, Conference Committee, something like that, but an actual "Super-Congress" that can actually pass legislation without it going through the normal channels=RIDICULOUS. Then again, I guess the "necessary and proper clause" could be interpreted as giving them that kind of leeway.”

“I have to agree. I'm a left-leaning libertarian-ish type but I can not STAND the thought of true socialism. The man that earns what he has should have what he earned. It's only rational. The writing was really not at all bad, but it was quite a difficult read so that may be where some of this "bad writing" comes from. Maybe they're just "bad" readers. Also, it's HILARIOUS to me that the GOP/Tea Party are adopting Rand as since she would disagree with a great many of their ideals. Most especially the religious fanaticism that runs rampant in both parties.”
