Parentless Parents: How To Be A Parent Without Your Own

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 11:28:21 in Living

“Thank You for this very important article. Death of parents does not get addressed much in society. Basically you're expected to grieve a death in three days and move on with your life.

I lost my mom when I was five years old. There was no grieving allowed. Lost My father later in life. So I had to go throughout life without parents for all those important milestones that parents are so important and vital to being a part of. Being without a mom was the hardest.

Part of my grieving and healing process did not take place until I hit my thirties and it was then that I found Hope Edelman's book on Mother loss. It was at a time when I had just gotten a computer for the first time as well and that was over a decade ago. I started discussion lists online for mother loss and have been running them now for over ten years.
I'll pass along the link to your survey to my members. Thank you for this article.”

Survivor: Samoa: Lord of the Gnats

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 12:45:48 in Entertainment

“Sad to say, there isnt any one of these players that is deserving of a million bucks. Russell certainly doesnt need it. But he actually IS playing the game. (Some just 'think' they are playing the game).
He is as warped at heart as Johnny Fairplay...the burning of the socks, the dumping of the water, now we are to see more evil out of him in next week's episode. I wonder if his fellow tribe members will 'ever' wake up and realize they've all been played for fools...
The only thing I have really enjoyed is that Russell is smart enough (oh gag) to actually USE the hidden immunity idols at tribal council..unlike those who hold on to them thinking they are 'safe' from the vote...and therefore blindsides in this seasons Survivor vote outs have been at least interesting!

But in any case, I love to read your take on the weekly episode Tallulah..always”

hp blogger Tallulah Morehead replied on Nov 20, 2009 at 17:43:44

“You left out Russell's most reprehensible tactic, pretending to have been a victim of Katrina, who lost his doggie in the catastrophe. Exploiting the fictional death of an imaginary doggie in a real disaster trumps even Johnny Fairlpay's fake Granny death. After all. One gets over Granny's death. She probably smelled dead for some time. But the loss of a doggie is a torture forever. People LIKE doggies. I certainly do. Just ask my pet pooch, Baskerville, though I must warn you. All the answer you'll get is "Woof."

But I don't think the idea of "deserving" to win the million has any meaning. If you manage to win it, you win it. Nelson Mandala "deserves" to win it.”

Vaccination: A Conversation Worth Having

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 11:18:30 in Living

“Did you ever hear the phrase..You get more with sugar than you do vinegar'?
Well, this is a tact lesson....most grandma's give it. (Like dont throw the baby out with the bathwater)
I listened to my Grandma..and try hard to remember that lesson.
Bill Maher has a wonderful platform to get people to listen to him about important topics. I love his show. But he has learned a lesson in tact...and thats why he did the 'clarification'. I appreciate his clarification in this very well done article. I think he will 'get more with sugar' than he did the vinegary first response...(and I DID see the show where he talked about this).

I also agree with him about the vaccines. I wont be getting one of these flu shots. But there ARE people who would benefit from them (even with the nasty ingredients) because some are at a very high risk to die if they dont have some kind of protection.
For most, this flu is going to be just like the other flu's that have came, gone and mutated.
Everybody needs to investigate to see if its right for them before they decide to take the shot or not.”

There are racist viewpoints at these events and more often than not it has nothing to do with lower taxes for the wealthy or a desire for NO health care reform.

It has everything to do with right wing extremist viewpoints. This is what you get when you gather together via FOX.”

“The all 'voluntary' military is not really voluntary when there are no other jobs in an area and the poverty is so huge that poor young people and those with families have NO OTHER way to make a living but join up so that they can feed, clothe, shelter themselves and have medical care.
As well as offering pay bonus's to people who would not otherwise afford to buy a new car or other large expenses or to go to college.”

Earth to Lou: It Could Have Been Different

Commented Nov 13, 2009 at 10:12:39 in Media

“Interestingly enough....Do you realize how much MONEY gets pumped in to the IRS by those illegal immigrants?
Now thats money that gets poured into Medicaid, Medicare, SSI payments for US seniors....Now imagine that the SSI is already in jeopardy for the baby boomers...and take away ALL THAT MONEY that the 'illegal's have shot into the system for those seniors.

You cant have it both ways.
You cannot take the money from the illegals and then gripe about them being here. The immigration system is broken and needs fixed...no doubt about it. But American citizens need to realize too that the illegals are not just taking jobs but also putting money into our system that THEY WILL NEVER SEE BENEFIT FOR...BUT YOU WILL.”

How To Teach Your Children About Death

How To Teach Your Children About Death

Commented Nov 04, 2009 at 15:14:14 in Living

“It is very important to help children through the grieving process. Books are a wonderful tool for teaching that have only came out in recent years. In the past, people would often just pack up everything of their loved ones possessions and not talk anymore about the deceased person. Children do not cope well with that...as resilient as they are...death is something that they need to be able to express their feelings on and be allowed to grieve.

If a beloved family member dies, a child needs to have their feelings understood and worked through.
A child who does not get to grieve at the time of loss will often have these feelings of grieving go dormant and hit them very hard later in life.
It is so very vital to give a child a voice for what they are feeling, and help them understand what they are feeling, and that it is ok to grieve ones loss at any age.

I know. I lost my mom when I was five years old. I never got to grieve for her until I hit my thirties.”

DO NOT speak of that which you do not know. Unless you have nowhere to go and can lay around your house because of the unrelenting hot flashes, blinding depression, the weight gain that comes out of nowhere, a dry, cracked, bloody vagina which essentially rules out any possibility of a sex life. Male doctors that are arrogant and uncaring, unsympathetic female doctors who apparently haven't experienced Menopause or had a minor symptoms. Need I go on?

Don't speak of something of which you have no knowledge of. You will only look like a total moron down the road and no one will care a bit about your suffering because you took the "high" road previously.

Eating Animals: Jonathan Safran Foer's New Book Asks Why Don't We Eat Pets?

Commented Oct 29, 2009 at 08:44:18 in Books

“I dont like factory farming and we are doing here at home what we can to insure the best quality meat gets into our household. But the idea that eating pets, who have for eons been domesticated PETS is sickening to me and yes, yes there IS a difference and it is ancient.

Dogs and Cats were pets in ancient Egyptian times and they did not as far as I know ever eat them. Different cultures thought of other animals as sacred. (as in India with Cows).

But in any case, I have taken note of the onslaught or push of 'news stories' in the past few weeks regarding eating animals/factory farms/ methane out of control/and a push to go vegetarian.

I dont see society as a whole EVER going totally vegetarian. Humans are carnivores and yes we have preferences. Men in particular are known to crave protein from meat.
People need to get informed about inhumane practices with factory farming. Things DO need to change. The antibiotic/hormone issue is real and dangerous. People need to support local sources for food. We have a couple of generations of people who think that meat is something that you get at the supermarket like there is no history behind it...shrink wrapped and prepackaged.

But as far my cats and dogs...it would be like eating a beautiful songbird...or a beautiful majestic horse.....I see a difference even if this piece doesnt.”
