Too Big to Block? Why Obama Must Stop the Comcast-NBC Merger

“Isn't that what capitalism all about? Your concerns, with the exception of number 4, all seem selfish and against growth. If people don't want then they don't have to buy or watch. If the merger fails it doesn't hurt our pockets.

“Yes, this is the end result of capitalism, as Marx predicted - competition that once flourished and promoted creativity/low prices will vanish, and in it's place, a corporate monopoly will form. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? Mergers like these is why there needs to be government regulation of capitalistic ventures - to break up monopolies and trusts. This is an issue that has confronted the US in many fields, with banks, railroads, etc. It's not new, but it is just as important, perhaps more important, than ever.”

“Wrong. This kind of consolidation can be seen in the drug industry were a few companies maintains "subsidiaries", where the auto industry has "brands" that make the same cars but gives them different names. Consolidation may be part of capitalism, but the result is anything but capitalism. Lack of competition does not mean that the best company won, it means that the public looses.

Obama Online -- Where Are the Young Supporters?

“Ha! I have been asking this question since the President was sworn in.
Where are these youngsters who wanted change? Why aren't they out there helping the President push his agenda? Why are they protesting for healthcare, gay rights, and against the birthers? Where are they? Your job isn't over but just starting. You said you wanted to be heard and not just seen, well here is your moment. Your participation shouldn't just stop with an election.

“No: robjh1's thoughts on how we think by having what we want all is fine and the misconception that security comes by having our needs and desires met.
Gay's pushed and shoved Bill Clinton on Gay issues. I think we must all understand it takes more than legislation to accomplish what Gays want. Look at any legislation making things right... Women's Rights, Civil Rights, Voting Rights, just because you inact it doesn't mean things will automatically change. So what if he does what you want? Then some states will come in and challenge what has been inacted in courts. Better yet Congress must be on board and we can't get them to get in right with healthcare or anything else. It takes time. To throw your hands up and say he isn't delivering simply because it doesn't meet your time table is ridiculous. There are alot of things on his desk. He knows what he promised. Give the man time.

So far he has not. Add to that the confusing and shifting messages from the White House on whether he ever will, his administration's unnecessarily vigorous defense of DOMA (which he once called "abhorrent" legislation) and some pathetic crumbs (gay ambassador to New Zealand) in an apparent attempt to buy us off and it's no wonder many of us are beginning to lose faith in him.”

“Because sadly enough it is the TRUTH. You don't have to agree but it is. History proves it. People without rights are given rights but yet the hearts of those against it aren't changed. Yes you can say it is prejudice but the FACT reminds laws don't change peoples hearts or perceptions. It is understanding.

“Sad truth or not hearts can only begin to heal the human divide when Laws uphold the citizens rights to Equal treatment under the Law. You are right things don't happen all at once. But when discrimination is justified through existing laws it aggravates and endlessly multiplies the social problems. It makes 'hate' ok and legal and leaves no alternative for the persecuted.”

But let's just say it DOES take time, what's he done on the issue? If it takes time, has he started that effort? Is it in motion?
He made a promise and ... nothing.
LGBTs are tired of waiting. We got burned BADLY by Clinton. Obama is just more of that -- the same dreadful and discriminatory policy is in place. That's not change.
And how long is the "He's only been in office for X amount of time!" argument going to hold?
LGBTs knew we were done for wen Obama chose Rick Warren on Day one. And we're stll...waiting. What a disappointment.”

“Why use Bush's quote as a way of justifying prejudices which could be substantially eliminated with laws that will move equality forward. Actually why use a Bush quote at all except to rationalize laws that were created to discriminate against a minority which has taken on the majorities wrong mindedness and inhumanity. Oh, I guess it makes sense to use the Bush quote... after all it is Bush.”
