“And once again there is no 'form' for name removal in the Mormon Church. Why do you continue to insist that there is?

Bishops can recommend name removal to the First Presidancy after a member has requested it in writing. That is to say, they write a letter to the bishop (not fill out a form) requesting the acton.”

“Time for me to log off buddy. Good luck with all your 'issues'.

I've got some fresh Mississippi shrimp that I picked up in Biloxi yesterday. I'm gonna boil them and have a feast.

Once again my heart goes out to the family of the bishop who was killed and also to the family of the killer.”

Rob,
You are all of those precious things: plessant, ammusing, and, yes, mad and altogether delightful.”

“You are mad! It may be time for you to back away from the computer my friend. Go outside. Do some physical activity. Run, Walk. Go meet some people that speak with their mouth and not their fingers.

Just as Lucy instructed Charlie Brown in the Christmas special: 'you need social stimulation."”

Seriously, do some research.”

“Hey that was pretty good. I even laughed. But honestly, I don't think any Christian church teaches people to belittle others, but rather it is human nature, something we should try to overcome. So if you would like to put it out there that the Mormon Church teaches it's members to belittle others, it would be untrue.

Also there is not 'superuser' or 'level 2 networker' within the Mormon faith.

And as far as giving me the 'what for', I'm hoping that is referring to physically harming me and not homosexual activity. Either way, judging from the ammount of time you obviously spend on the computer, both attempts on your part would be frustrated. Sorry, I cant meet you out behind the gym after school.”

“I'm guessing 'character assassination' has refernce to homosexuality and Prop. 8. Here (Mississippi) we don't have to deal much with such degenerative activity as homosexuality. Stamping out such behavior here is referred to as 'high moral principle'.

Also, the word 'pissant' must have a different meaning where you are from. Here it means minute, miniscule, irrellivent. If you are in fact referring to Prop. 8 or anything similar I would say the influence was anything but pissant.

And the LDS Church did not pour money into Prop 8. Many of the members of the Church did but the Church itself did not.

GET IT RIGHT! GET IT RIGHT!”

“You seem to have some insight or information to the level of support that was offered to this man. Did you know him? Did he tell you: "The Mormon's didn't offer me any support after my deployment. They just left me to the wolves."?

In reality you have no idea what level of 'compassion and understanding' was offered to him.”

“What are the so-called faults of the LDS Church?

What is sad here is the way 'eilish' has taken a tragedy, the murder of a man in a church, the widowing of a young mother of 6, and the grief of a family of a sick man whose life ended before it needed to, she has taken this and turned it into a pity party for herself and we're all invited.

Judging from her 'level 2 networker' and 'superuser' status, this is common.”

“Your son's name was not removed from the records of the Church unless he requested it himself, and he wouldn't have been excommunicated for marrying a Catholic. You know that.

God bless your son who was wounded in Iraq. I am a combat veteran of the Iraq war. I prayed every day that if I were wounded it wouldn't be my eyes or my hands. I could deal with the loss of a leg or both. Sometimes its hard to come up with the right words of comfort. Are you NOT proud of your son's sacrifice? Most Christians are familiar with God's commandment to Abraham to sacrafice his son. As an American I would consider it and honor, even a right, to die for this country. I would rather live for it though. It would be easier to die than to endure blindness too. I am sorry for his loss.

As for your gay son, you know that the Church supports those with homosexual tendencies and tries to help them overcome them. If he gave into those tendencies and chose that life style why would he expect his friends to allow him to promote it in church? Morally its wrong, scientifically its unsustainable, socially it is destructive, logically it's ridiculous.”

eilish on Sep 1, 2010 at 18:23:00

“Your attitude is so un-Christlike that I pity you when you meet Him. Do you think He'll turn my gay son away? Or that He will do anything but weep over my son's sacrifice? If so, you don't know Him at all.

p.s. ask your Bishop for the form to remove your name from the records of the church. He should have one in his office.”

eilish on Sep 1, 2010 at 18:22:47

“Sir, you are so far right you're reminding me of all the reasons I left the church.

I am not 'proud' that my son went to war and will never see his wife's face again, nor ever that of his babies. I am devastated that he lost all of this in a war to make Dick Cheney and George Bush more powerful and now they got lotsa oil, which was all they cared about.

My gay son is one of the most marvelous people I know; he understands that living in a land of bigots requires that he live the most 'normal' life he can. He and his partner are great people, he's my best friend.

If all of you could but check out medical evidence, you might know that my son had two strikes against him for being straight. His dad was gay and I had a very difficult pregnancy. Couldn't produce enough testosterone.

As long as he is happy, I'm ecstatic.

As long as you are so judgmental and cruel, you continually reinforce my decision.

Check into your soul, son, you need to learn to love and accept all of those in this world just as Christ did. The problem with Evangelical Christians (who are turning people away from Christ in droves) is your complete certainty that you are right in all matters and we are wrong.”

“Be careful in blaming the military for this. The VA and other options are available but not all service members take advantage of them. Ward was ill and this whole tragedy could have been avoided but its impossible to know where to put the blame.

The media keeps talking about the high level of suicide in the army lately and how more needs to be done. Anyone who's been in the military knows that suicide prevention training occurs so oftern that it is annoying. What the media hasen't addressed is the fact that many men and women who join the military are already at risk for suicide as well as other harmful behavior.”

“I am a soldier. I am a combat veteran of the Iraqi war. Everything you have mentioned here is either a misconception, twisted, or a lie. Which is it? Mormons do not glory in war but they will fight if they need to. Your statement about leaving the Church is absolutely untrue and I'm sure you know it is. And the support for the military and their attentiveness to those who served in conflicts is unmatched (especially for those who were wounded).”

“This is this fist time I have been on The Huffington Post website. What led me here was the lack of media coverage on this article. I have quickly learned what kind of people read this news and comment on it's blogs. On most other blogs there is an expression of sadness and an outpourning of simpothy and support for both the bishop, and Ward's family. But on this blog there seems to be an immediate attack and blame on the LDS Church. You can be assured that the Latter-Day Saints will exercise their genuine Christian character in handling this matter. They will forgive, they will forget, they will learn and they will grow from this.”
