Does a Kosher Butcher's Fraud Mandate a Life Sentence?

Commented Apr 22, 2010 at 00:16:41 in Religion

“Thank you for a fair explanation of a very sad situation. As a mother of a large family, I cannot fathom the difficulty that the Rubashkins are undergoing at this time. May the judicial system of the greatest democracy in the world, prove its fairness, civility, and morality and accept Rubashkin's time in jail as sufficient punishment paid for the crimes he has committed and may he be released to return to his wife and children who need this nightmare to be over.... or what about community service as additional punishment if the prosecution determines he hasn't paid enough for his crimes??”

“Community service sounds excellent. It is more a rehabilitation than punishment, adding "tikun olam" (repair of the world), rather than isolating a man and thereby taking from the recipients of his charity, as well. Besides, the psychological stress he is under, now, is torture and punishment enough, I'm sure.”

Does a Kosher Butcher's Fraud Mandate a Life Sentence?

“Well said......what he is demonstrating is the absolute exaggerated response by our justice system to a family man known for his kindness and benevolence and charitable works.......Why people are claiming it to be anti-Semitic is because the punishment certainly doesn't seem to fit the crime.....Hopefully the judge will reconsider and demonstrate the strength of our American justice system rather than the opposite.”
