Puerto Rico Statehood: 5 Reasons Why The Island Won't Become The 51st State

Puerto Rico Statehood: 5 Reasons Why The Island Won't Become The 51st State

Commented Nov 25, 2012 at 16:21:54 in Latino Voices

“It is not correct that the PR elections resulted in a % favoring to become a USA state.I will add that in the "PNP" ( Partido Nuevo Progresista ) annual metting 2 years ago what people remember most is the fist fight between members of that party youth organization. There were no more than 5-10 USA flags and none ot the PNP liders talk nor even mention the statehood topic. They are not playing fair to its voters. My personal opinion is that they are only there to win the elections and play an administrative "tool" of the actual status : a colony. There is more, they propose a statehood keeping an Olympic Team,Spanish speaking and a Miss Universe contender. Those "liders" are not serious, they are political delinquents.USA Gov. Is no giving the adequate importance to us.It is a shame for you all to support a colony.Your Father Founders are ashamed of you.Instead of making friends, your Gov. Is doing the opposite not only in Puerto Rico but in the Caribbean and Latinamerica. It is not us,it is your Government. Most of our people beleive that your citizens are friendly, but not your Gov.It is time to resolve this political situation. We the puertoricans living in the island are the only ones to be taken in consideration to decide our status.”

“Large yes,but not sure if it's the largest. And if so recipient, why then we are kept as a colony since 1898 after the "Guerra Hispanoamericana"?
I'm quite not sure if the balance of the " checks" is in our favor.I will inform you of that as soon as I get the numbers.
PD : We do not vote for the Presidency of the USA.”

“The citizens of the USA know very little of the world and so of Puerto Rico.It is not their fault but of the Education Department.Wath just happened in the Republican primaries in PR has also happened with the Democratic Party in previous election times.”

“Yes,Puerto Rico is a colony, the last one in the World. It is a shame for the USA.We can vote in the Presidential primaries but not for the President. The USA citizenship was given to Puerto Rico by a Law created in the Congress of the USA..We did not asked for it,it was imposed.I personally have a great respect for your Nation, but how can you explain the issue of we to be a colony and that that was the reason for your Independence War.”
