“Put military spending on the block first. The US spends more on military spending that all remaining countries on the planet COMBINED. The tail's been wagging the dog for too long.”

ncsteeler replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 12:12:23

“I firmly agree. We spend over $100B on about 800 foreign military bases (not counting I&A). There are over 200 in Germany alone! The cold war has been over for 20 years now. Obama and Gates need to do a realistic review of what we need in the 21st century - not what a bunch of Generals want but what we need to defend ourselves. I'm pessimistic just looking at how long it took to kill the F22. We need to end I&A sooner rather than latter - the people there don't want us and we're doing more harm than good all at the cost of treasury and lives. We spend over $600B/year on DOD - that could be cut in half and we'd be just as safe - a few gererals would be forced in retirement and congressmen would kick and scream about base closures.”

They also would be against going another $ Trillion+ in debit for a Gov. run wasteful dangerous program like Obama-Nancy-Harry Care.”

“Agreed. Tax cuts followed by tax cuts joined by endless war and deregulation at all costs are the way to go. It works every time. Oh, that and electing people that profess to hate "big government" to run "big government". That does the trick every time too. GO CALIFORNIA!!!”

Philclock replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 01:37:07

“Very astute how's you know? Kennedy's tax cuts worked excellently despite Vietnam war; only brought down by LBJ's spending billions on Great Society. Reagan tax cuts same, despite mini-downturn after Gulf War: Clinton rode its coattails for 8 yrs. Bush tax cuts worked, caught at the end by too much spending and credit crash; Obama and Dems making it a crunch, with huge spending, no tax relief and government stifling new lending.

Democrats profess to hate big government? Wow, THAT's an interesting take on California, even for Democrats.”

“That is totally BS! Anyone can walk into an ER room at a hospital and get treated. All the illegals do. Put it where it's at. It's only the middle class AMERICANS who are paying for everyone else. Get off this holyer-than-thou pedestal and fess up. This Damn administration is running us into the ground. You damn libs had better have a come-to-Jesus meeting, and I don't mean that religiously, I mean that literally. Do your homework; research; you people out there are going to be OUT OF WORK for the next 3 years until we get this guy OUT OF THERE.”

smpj replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 19:02:24

“True. But we should do something that bends the cost curve in a direction that we can afford. Other countries have found ways. The current proposals do nothing to help long term . If something is passed that cannot be paid for, then who, other than those rich enough to afford their own care, will not be at the mercy of disease or mental illness?”

“I remember when all the "thinking conservatives" were worried about deficit spending at a time of war joined with a massive tax cut for the rich followed by another massive tax cut for the rich followed by 2 (TWO) stimulus handouts in 2008. They were everywhere...jumping up and down, screaming even! Where's all this money coming from!?!

Oh, wait that never happened. The fact that the CBO is indicating this will SAVE 10 BILLION DOLLARS per annum is peripheral nonsense to "thinking conservatives". It would be funny if it weren't so hypocritical and meant the death of another 3,600 Americans this month and the next and the next...”

conservative-mindset replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 19:01:16

“Who says I was a fun of the Bush administration? Who says I'm a fan of the Republicans currently in office? Your assumptions are ill based and for the most part false. A majority of real conservatives were against the bail outs in the Bush years as they are against them these days. And, for the record, the CBO stated that the Polosi plan will do nothing of the sort in reducing/saving us money, in fact, the report said quite the opposite.

I'm also interested to see where you guys are finding 3,600 people dieing every month because of lack of health care insurance. You clowns are probably including terminal cancer, car accidents, murder, and anything else you can garner to falsify your claims.”

smpj replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 18:32:29

“The issue of deficits has been given lip service for years. Both Dems & Republicans admonished each other for creating them - and both were right to do so. But now the landscape has been radically changed. The deficit spending is reaching critical mass under those now in power. Everyone responsible can see that the enormity of what's being spent and that which is projected to be spent is going to be ruinous. The Republicans have been guilty of making the situation bad. The Democrats are guilty of making the situation dangerously worse. Cooler heads will prevail next year and any politician in even the most loosely described swing districts and states who promotes higher taxes and larger deficits will very likely have their head handed to them in the next election.”
