“You still don't get it. Rose should be in the Hall for what he did do on the field.
Bonds and McGwire should not ever be considered for what they DID do while playing the game..............”

“Read my Lips Leecard.. I have been saying he bet when a manager. He would not be in the Hall for being a manager if all this never happened. He SHOULD BE in the Hall for his play on the field. Ruth, Ford, Mantle and many others would never get in the Hall if graded on what they did OFF the field. Ruth was a noted gambler and hung with the WRONG people. Rose never did anything while he played except play the game better than anyone ever has, Period. McGwire confessed to taking PED's WHILE HE WAS PLAYING and setting records. Does anyone think Bonds bulked up like he did and did all he did without PED help??? BE real man.
I can't get over all the statements on this site trying all you can to say the Steroid guys are heros. ROse is not the brightest guy ever to play the game. He can't help that. But everyone needs to give the guy his due. And add Joe Jackson to the list.
His stats show he didn't try to throw the 1919 World Series. The Hall doesn't need to have another great die without being in the Hall. I respect them less and less after they left O'Neal out while he was alive. :>(”

“Oh and I will say this, Rose did not play the game better than anyone else.  Rose was a great player but he was not the best player.  I liked the way he played the game, I think every player should play as hard as he did.  That is how it should be done.   Rose's accomplishments on the field were many and were great, no question.  His betting on games cannot be over looked.  Every player in the game has to know that gambling will not be tolerated.  Everyone knows that if baseball will not bend for Rose the aren't going to bend for anyone else.  That is a good message to send. ”

“Read my lips, vanf, Rose bet on baseball while he had influence on the games.  Get it?  Understand what that means?  Let me say it again, Rose bet on games that he had an influence on.  Is it really that difficult to understand???   Do you know what is posted in EVERY major league club house?  EVERY ONE, not most, not some, but EVERY ONE - It is posted that gambling is strictly forbidden.  There is no way to misinterpret that.   Rose was in major league baseball and bet on games that he could have influenced the outcome.  Get it???  Do you see a problem with that?   I am not sure where your rant about the 'roid heads is from, I didn't defend any of them for what they did.   As far as the off field behavior of Ruth and others, yeah?  There is no evidence that Ruth ever bet on a baseball game that he had influence on.  Let's see it if you got it.  Otherwise that has no bearing on this conversation. ”

“I don't get what your saying?? Rose did wrong for gambling after he stopped playing. That is how I understand it. He did nothing to help himself win except hustle his ass off.
The others did wrong, they cheated while playing the game.
Is there really anything that can be said. Rose is not the smartest brain on the block, but he admits that.
He will die who and what he is, a man not smart enough to go out on top. My only thought about the steroid boys is they all think they got away with it, and I guess they did. McGwire is still in baseball.
You can't have it both ways, and that's not even talking about Shoeless Joe Jackson.”

“What you are failing to understand is that Rose bet on baseball while he was managing. That is well documented. It does not matter if he bet on his team to win or lose, he was betting on the outcome of a game he had influence on. That cannot be tolerated. If gambling is involved it could turn baseball into pro wrestling or get the mob involved.

There are signs in EVERY major league locker room that gambling is strictly prohibited, every one.

As far as your comments on steroids go, I am not stuck on those guys either. Although I will say this, everyone should think about the situation for a minute. If I was a young guy in the minors making $20,000 a year, or whatever it is, and saw a friend juicing and all the sudden his is in the majors making a few million dollars....I can't say for sure that I would say no. I hope I would say no but wow, that is tough.

I am not defending steroid use. It has left a huge black eye on baseball. McGwire came clean. McGwire seems like a decent man. Bonds is a complete waste of space as a human being. I would like to strike down all those records but who knows for sure how many others were juicing too? what pitchers? who was clean? How can you tell? It's impossible to answer those questions.”

“I would always want to see Rose and his records upheld in or on any thing that posts such records. I wont buy anything that deals with Bonds or McGwire”

“Rose bet on baseball!! There is no bigger sin in baseball. Do you realize what that could lead to? Do you want baseball to become like pro wrestling?? That is where it could go.

Please do not compare McGwire with Bonds. McGwire is the ONLY player to ever come out and admit using steroids BEFORE any confirmation at all was found. NO ONE else did that. NO ONE. Everyone knows Bonds and Clemens were guilty but the two of them just keep on denying it. They deny it so much they were charged with perjury. Bonds is the biggest a__h_le to ever play the game.”

“If the Hall used the rules to a (T), Ruth, Cobb, Ford, Mantel and others wouldn't be there either.
Rate guys that played the game on their game. Keep the steroid guys out. No one ever said a baseball player has to be a Rocket Scientist. Most couldn't read or write and many couldn't sign their names. But ohhh, could they play THE GAME.”

Leecard146 on Jan 15, 2013 at 11:57:40

“Ar you saying the other guys bet on baseball too? I have not read that anywhere. Do you have a link?

You do realize what betting on baseball could do to the game, don't you? Do you want major league baseball to turn into pro wrestling?”

“Pete, I loved watching you play. I even wrote an open letter to you on Bleacher.
But my quote to you has to be,' If you had just played baseball, you'd be in the Hall instead of outside commenting about it.'”
