“As silly as that law may sound for a moment imagine if it became law during a time when tuberculosis was a major health issue across the US. Put into that perspective, that law may no longer seem so silly.”
“In the US a worker drops a box on his or her toe and sues their employer for a million and wins. In China a machine rips a worker's arm off and they are given half a bandaid (the cost of which is deducted from their paycheck). Oh yeah...we were talking minimum wage.....sorry.........”
“By lowering the standards you can raise the standards. Better a child have success at something simple than fail at something difficult. We must be happy....happy....happy.”

“I'm quite lucky. I teach at one of the oldest alternative schools in the country. Our students, for the most part, are eager to learn new things, often just for the sake of learning them. Worrying about what kind of job it's going to get them doesn't even make it onto their radar (yet many of our graduates have gone on to very successful careers in every field you can imagine). No matter how high I set the bar in my classes (I teach Spanish), my students insist that I set it higher. When I hear what teachers in other schools around the country are facing these days, I realize that I am truly blessed to teach in a school that still holds the liberal arts tradition of education as effective and important. Truth is, it works. Our 8th graders score about 15 to 20 points higher than the state average on standardized tests. And no, we don't teach to the test or exclude students who might bring our average scores down. ”
“The truth hurts but here it goes: Democrates have ties with corporations just like Republicans.”

“F&F because someone else actually sees it, blessed be you even though I am not not religious anymore. It is just a nice thing to say and honors the true spirit and intent of religious people that don't practice their faith”

“Yes. Because they all need to raise obscene amounts of money to run every 2, 4 or 6 years. If we have a constitutional amendment for public financing and no "ads" for 3 months before an election, debates only, then we could take back our Democracy from the corporations.”

“You make a great point. It's not a dem or rep thing, it's a CORPORATOCRACY thing.
They own all of us.
You will consume, obey, comply, and participate in the greed (except the rich get to participate more than you by many thousands of times).”
“Taken out of context it right. He wrote this as a quick response to one person's silly question. You people act as though he made an entire speech in front of congress to say we need to bring back slavery. Of course if you only look at the photo and only read the headline (which I sure at least 50% of the commenters did) it is understandable how you could be mislead by this story.”
“100,000 people were shot down in cold blooded killings yesterday in video games across the US. Most of these acts were committed by children....programing the youth of today to carry out the atrocities of tomorrow.”

“The d'baggz will throw up chaff to obscure that fact. Like how many Japanese play video games.
Of course thy won't mention that the Japanese also commit suicide at a rate several times our own...”

“My friends and I played war constantly growing up. This was decades before video games. When we all got drafted, we all went like "programmed youth", but nobody wanted to. One of us became a minister, and one a state director for human rights.
The only atrocity any of us carried out was following orders.”

“As a kid I shot hundred of good and bad guys, with my finger gun, since then not so many. I haven't seen on the news many from the Mario or Zelda generation slamming heads with hammers or stabbing with swords. No magic potions and only one zombie attack and that was in Miami.
Perhaps the future of the world is so shadowed in darkness the children of today are being desensitized to be ready to endure it. Most in modern countries haven't seen famine, and the black death hasn't returned yet, but you never know. Doom may be around the corner to rear it's foreboding cranium. It has always been there to plague all the 'good' people of the world.
Where's Harry Potter when you need him?”

“If worldwide games were having this effect I'd agree - this is wholly an American problem and games are not the cause of it”

“When I was a kid, we played Cops and Robbers, or Cowboys and Indians. In either case, it was a game of pretend shooting, only instead of video bad guys, the targets were other actual human beings. Video games are not so different from the games of past generations. It has ever been thus.”

“D'ya see the picture of this guy? He looks like he's usually too stoned to spell video game, much less play one.
“I have a feeling your little cap gun really looked like a toy. Plus were you still playing with your little cap gun and cowboy hat when you were 13? I doubt it. And were you running around at night with your little hat and cap gun?”
curtrude1 on Oct 30, 2013 at 10:56:22
“Yeap, them guns looked like toys for sure. By thirteen I was hunting with the real deals. Last question, nope I hadda be in the house when the street lights came on. You see, them days are long gone. You can't go to schools anymore dressed up for Halloween with cap guns. If you're a kid, running around with anything that looks like a weapon, you have to realize you could be in harms way. The rules of engagement have changed.”

“They always looked like the real deal.
I don't know where you're coming from, especially when you can go to any cop board you want and listen to them tell you they don't give a flip what it looks like, you're dead if you're holding one.”
