“"Trust in doctors is eroded, further, by news reports of physicians' conflicts of interest. Even if only a few physicians abused their academic authority by quietly accepting funds from drug companies and then subtly shifting their research publicatio ns".. The real problem with that statement is that such physicians are frequently the opinion leaders in your profession. Most physicians continuing education is provided by drug companies and sales reps. Off label use is common.”
Possible MS Breakthrough Neglected By American Media

“There is a relationship between the groups that raise money Such as the ACS or the MS society and the pharma industry that favors management of disease rather than prevention or cure. Thier is an interesting study in PLOS genetics which may explain the link between vitamin d levels and MS. A gene common to MS suffers has been located and vitamin d appears to turns it off..

Interestingly in Canada health officials have changed the recommendation on vitamin in part because of the Lappe study The new recommendation ........ “We’re recommending 1,000 IUs daily because the current evidence suggests this amount will help reduce cancer risk with the least potential for harm,” says Logan. “More research is needed to clearly define the amount of Vitamin D that will maximize health benefits.” .......... here http://www .cancer.ca /Canada-wi de/About%2 0us/Media% 20centre/C W-Media%20 releases/C W-2007/Can adian%20Ca ncer%20Soc iety%20Ann ounces%20V itamin%20D %20Recomme ndation.as pxs

The Prevention Of Alzheimer's Disease

“A very recent study by Dr.Grant found that vitamin d deficiency was linked to cognitive impairment and AD . Most of the diseases mentioned in your very interesting article have also been linked to vitamin d deficiency . A recent study done at UCLA has found vitamin d may in fact help clear the plagues associated with this disease http://new sroom.ucla .edu/porta l/ucla/ucl a-study-fi nds-vitami n-d-may-94 903.aspx . Since most people are vitamin d deficiency at least in part because of the demonetization of any sun exposure : now at least some physicians are urging sensible sun exposue it may in fact be able to greatly reduce AD by insuring adequate amounts of vitamin d.”
SD Mendelson replied on Dec 15, 2009 at 08:59:15
“Dear Vincealy, You are absolutely right about vitamin D. Effect of vitamin D on mood, which is what I deal with on a daily basis as a Psychiatrist, is yet another interesting and important topic. Recent studies are showing deficiencies of the vitamin even in healthy young adults. Sun block, while protecting against skin cancer, does prevent the sunlight-induced production of vitamin D in the skin. Drinking vitamin D fortified milk, supplementing when needed, and, as you note, prudent sun exposure, may improve health considerably. Thankfully, it is quite easy to measure vitamin D in the blood. More doctors should do so. Moreover, if patients have persisting problems of various kinds that do not respond to treatment, obtaining blood levels of vitamin D and other nutrients can be extremely helpful in getting results.
Thanks for your comments, Vincealy.

It is easy to find the person who was diagnosed but much harder to find the person who got cancer as a result of a mammogram. A interesting link in this regard

“Agreed. And it also completely shatters the trust of the public.
The CDC wants people to vaccinate? Well, do the damned studies and quit dodging! If they find that there is nothing to worry about, i.e. that the health outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated people are similar (a study that should have been done 20 years ago when we asked for it), then I'm pretty sure that it will quiet a lot of people and help rebuild that trust.
But this reluctance to do the study makes them look like they are afraid of what they will find. That, most certainly, harms the public trust. The science needs to be done, period.”
