...is an obscenity. Five years now, and countless lives immiserated, maimed, extinguished. George W. Bush today puffed up his chest and declared that the incalculable horror, the sustained anguish, the terrible sin that is the war he started in Iraq, "will be discussed by military historians for many years." He's right about that.
Military historians discuss a lot of pointless slaughters and social catastrophes created by men with weapons, and directed by men who fancy themselves as God.
War is not "an issue."
War is an obscenity.

World Have Your Say on BBC is a great way to read what is going on in the world. Look up Letters from Baghdad with entries from folk living there. There are blogs from around the world. They do NOT fetter like Huffington have started to. They tell it like it is. Google 'patrick lockyer' to see some of my rants and videos. Here is a link to WHYS. It might be removed I suspect.

I was looking for one of your older posts (from around two years ago?) in which you stated something to the effect that, until we stop worshiping the military, we are doomed as a species. Can't find it. Could you please reply with the link?
WWII, in which my father served, was the last war of necessity. WWII should have forever ended war as political tool for the United States. The volunteer U.S. military of today is a mercenary force, and a "jobs program" for poor and middle-class youth. I do not consider those who join the military in this day and age to be heroes. While I have sympathy for them in that they deserve better economic opportunities than the military offers, and while I certainly believe that society has a responsibility to take better care of them and their families when they come home with missing limbs or in flag-draped coffins, they are in fact major enablers of our war-loving politicians, including the grotesque, megalomaniacal cretin who currently occupies the White House.Tragically, they are guilty of believing "The Big Lie", i.e., that, in 2008, serving in the military and even dying "for your country" are noble pursuits.
Do you think these brilliant "military historians" will testify at the Hague ? The dead and maimed
cultivated by what appears to be a completely impulsive war , deserve at the very least , that the facts and players to be reconcilled before a court of law. These people are outlaws , who have assumed no responsibility for thier crimes against humanity. After gutting our treasury ,our military , and putting thousands upon thousands of our children and families through the unbelievable hell that is war.
The Bushco executives will disapear into thin air , spending the rest of their lives living in abject splendor. While we try to assimilate an entire generation or two of soldiers back into society.
It does seem to me that a conventional military has grown passe.
A war of occupation is a fools game.
What good, for example, was our military 9/11?
What good does the pentagon in enforcing the borders?
Keep fighting. Please keep posting here.
