The Miami Heat have officially been crowned as the 2013 NBA champions, hundreds of budding young college athletes have now been relieved of the NBA draft pressures and yet some of the NBA's most seasoned veterans are anything but out of the spotlight these days. One seasoned veteran in particular that has caused a lot of uproar over the last two seasons is LA Lakers center, Dwight Howard.
Howard, who was drafted in 2004 to the Orlando Magic right out of high school, has been no stranger to controversy over the last two years. During the 2011-2012 season Howard underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back and after missing the remainder of the season asked to be traded to the Nets and if he was not he would become a free agent at the end of the 2012-2013. After much discussion Dwight was finally traded to NBA superpower, the Los Angeles Lakers. What appeared on paper to be a match made in heaven turned out to be hell on Earth for a struggling Lakers team that never seemed to be able to work together to win games even amidst changes in coaching staff.
As the NBA season has concluded Howard once again is ready to take his talents elsewhere and create his own "big three" dynasty much like the Miami Heat has successfully constructed over the last 3 seasons. The question now at hand is where exactly could Dwight go that would make him happy? Many recent reports suspect that Dwight may be leaning towards any variety of teams which include: Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and his hometown team, the Atlanta Hawks. It has also been widely reported that both the Lakers and the Rockets have included TV opportunities for Howard if he decides to sign with either teams. Will he take it? Not really sure at this moment but we can be confident it doesn't look good for fans who are hoping Dwight returns to the hardwood wearing gold and purple.
As in season's past the question now remains W.W.D.D? (What Will Dwight Do?) or better yet does Dwight knows what he intends to do? While not an excuse many sports critics seem to overlook that Howard is only 27 and is in many cases still trying to find his way. Not to imply that his age should be an excuse for how he has been reacting to his free agency situation but despite it all the decision Dwight makes has to be for Dwight. Not for Laker fans, not for Rocket Fans, not for NBA fans and not even for his friends but his decision has to be for Dwight and maybe just maybe if this decision is his own we will finally be able to see the ending of the Dwight saga.
