What struck me most forcefully about Barack Obama last night was that, especially for a first time audience, he established himself as presidential -- exactly what one should do in an acceptance speech. He conveyed a sense of enormous strength and purpose, an individual who knows exactly what he wants to do and precisely what he must do to reach his ends. All of that silly stuff about Paris Hilton and celebrity and weakness on national security should seem particularly nonsensical to anyone after hearing this address. This is a deeply serious man. Whatever the Republicans fling at him over the next 90 days, no one now can have any doubts about his depths as a candidate and his commitment to changing this land.

Obama is a unique guy. He has such a breadth of talent, he makes the impossible seem so easy. This is a man who speaks 250,000, 84,000 or 75,000 with the same ease and poise he speaks to his family. We are lucky to know this man.
Depth?
Obama is as deep as a parking lot puddle.
I don't understand how anyone can truthfully attempt to marginalize Obama's speech last night. He completely delivered; it was beautiful. The speech was to layout his platform for the general election, acknowledge his peers, excite his supporters, and introduce himself to new people. He did just that while also addressing McCain's attacks and presenting himself in a less lyrical and more specific manner than we've ever seen before. People complaining about his lack of policy detail are really reaching. Last night was about rallying the troops and making his mission statement. We have the debates to get down to the real business. I've never been more proud of a televised speech. This is history in the making. Remember where you were last night!
Most definitely a historical speech. Those claiming a lack of specifics should listen again to the speech because you apparently missed it.
"McCain just doesn't 'get it'."
If McCain wins this election, then I'll know it's rigged and corrupt just like Bush's wins were. If McCain wins, it's to hell in a handbasket for the US.
VOTE OBAMA '08!!
Senator obama has built an organized and very strong campaign. We all can see how they pulled off the DNC convention, highlighted by the speech at invesco.
We can all see the direction this country is
going if he becomes president. He is a good
organizer and he surrounds himself with good people who thinks of their families first. Unlike the mccain campaign,
who is surrounded by the likes of carl rove, people of questionable character.
The judgement factor can clearly distinguish
the two candidates. Senator obama is serious in taking this country in a new direction and senator mc cain is just serious
in winning an election by his choice of VP.
Mccain just ate up all his words regarding the experience factor. He is now an imitator of obama on the idea of change. Truly, obama is the leader and mccain is just a soldier.
I started as an Obamight
Followed by an Obaman
Then I became an Obamust
After that speech I'm an Obamaniac!
Obama/Biden '08
Could you explain to me, why, on this third anniversary of Katrina hitting New Orleans, and also McCain's birthday, the Democrats have not mentioned that three years ago on this date, George Bush stopped to attend John McCain's birthday party in Arizona on his way to a fundraiser in Los Angeles?
any newspaper archive would have pictures of THAT birthday event, with Mc Cain and Bush embracing. i 'm a yellow dog Dem in a red state, but one thing most of us down here share is a disdain for that image.
Is that the famous "hug" photo? That's been used a lot.
ACTIONS or INACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS...even well spoken ones....Everything he said was wrong with America and that he will fix is magnified in Chicago, Cook County and Ilinois... and in 8 years his presence in Illinois government everything he said he will fix on the national level has deteriorated
Wait... who was in charge on the national level, again?
And why should a single county, city or even state be able to fix all the things that have been willfully destroyed on the federal level?
How about asking why the man does not have wings and why he does not part the waters. Isn't that a requirement for a democratic candidate these days to get consideration by a republican voter?
:-)
...yeah, but the modal american voter is a painfully uninformed, cowardly intellectual midget...and nearly a good half of them are bigots wilingly deluged incessantly from the spigots of hate that is ominipresent right wing radio...this gives mccain a 40% base to start with...this one ain't over...in any of the far more spohsticatred electorates of western europe or even canada, this is a 60-40 obama election...here, its more like 51-49....
I agree, Obama looked presidential. If we Americans don't elect this man we are simply too easily manipulated fools. What do republicans really offer? Nothing positive. They can't win by offering a positive vision for America's future but they can still win by relentless negative propaganda against Obama. Make Obama's strengths into weaknesses by magic of propaganda! But like all magic it depends largely on the audience's gullibility factor. Are Americans any wiser after eight long years of republican misrule? Will the usual republican crappy magic tricks work once again?
What do you mean the Republicans have nothing to offer? They are offering a clear path for lowering this great nation to the status of a banana republic built for the better few. They are already halfway done dismantling those annoying democratic institutions that get in the way of the super rich, and given just one more term in the white house (and another shot at appointing supreme court Judges) this messy democratic system will be neatly packed away. Is that not a wonderful offering?
Obama said it: BOTH Republicans and Democrats work across the aisle to get things done.
You are easily manipulated fools. Probably always have been. But in the past twenty years you have taken it to the level of an artform.
Every time I read these types of discouraging words, I just remember the two gentlemen at the convention who stood proudly with their sign "REDNECKS FOR OBAMA!
That says it all for me.
if anyone doesn't "get it" after hearing this speech....they never will....if they doubt this man, let's compare his dialogue and speech to john mccain's....without the pundits and political divisive interpretations.....this IS NOT a liar like the current occupant who duplicitously claimed, "i'm a uniter, not a divider"....or how about a "compassionate conservative"....more like a bullheaded frat boy that NEVER grew up...his dad and mom must be proud...
