Yesterday Hillary Clinton announced a proposal to deal with the increasing economic frailty of our country. She advocated a $70 billion emergency spending package and a back-up of a $40 billion tax rebate if economic conditions worsened. Her proposal was serious, substantive and measured. It was a direct attempt to help the most threatened people in America at this time -- namely, lower-income families facing foreclosures of their mortgages, those in need of home heating assistance, the unemployed who require extend jobless benefits and aid to alternative energy and environmental programs. Her package of initiatives tells why she is starting to gain in the presidential race -- because she is acting rather than talking. She is the only candidate in either party who has come forward with serious remedies for a grave downturn in the American economy. One of the reasons why she won in New Hampshire, in retrospect, was she had earlier helped enact legislation which expanded the economy of that state -- and its voters appreciated it. Now she is doing the same for the nation. This is policy over pizzazz.

MEN in general do not want a woman as PREZ in the USA. The bloggers and media reflect it.
Some women are intimidated and don't want to openly admit they are supporting her and afraid they'll be accused of voting for Hillary JUST because she's a woman.
We all know Hillary is qualified--- but not surprising that a black MAN ( emphasizing MAN) is more electible in a backward country like this. Backward--cause we have gone backward in so many ways and what gender is most responsible for it ?
OK. Now that we've heard Mrs. Clinton's proposal where are those from the competition?
I agree 100%. I hope the voters start to focus on the isssues and start to give Hillary Clinton the credit she deserves for all her legislative work and her new ideas. She brings so much to the table.
It is refreshing to read something thoughtful and positive on the Huffington Post about Hillary Clinton.
There is no way that Hillary could ever be a successful President. She would be a much greater target of the opposing party and the media than George Bush ever was. This is not a time to divide the country. She has done nothing to stop the current administrations actions and in the greater majority of the cases supported them.
This country cannot afford a failed Presidency. It is going to take someone with bigger balls (and experience, especially business )than Hillary has got to redirect this country from total collapse.
So, get off this Hillary for President crap.
Hillary has as much chance of winning the nomination as Howdy Doody or Larry the Cable guy.
Come on. If you had Hillary, you lost!
Really? What exactly has she ever "led". She has 0 executive experience at any level.
Looks like the judgment of Hillary is tainted by years and years of hate of the Clintons, fed by the right wing Republicans.
Maybe people should look with an open mind and judge for themselves.
Watching her on MTP Sunday showed, she thinks, she understands the problems facing the nation and she can ARTICULATE her thoughts. Compare that to what we have now called President. Than look what McCain and the others have to offer.
Obama has not been tested yet, he is an unknown mostly.
And MSM is attempting to make the race between Clinton/Obama a race/gender question which it is not. But should Obama get the nomination the Republicans will make it a question of race.
Hillary is making what I call realpolitik.
Yes, she is a smart woman, but not a leader. When oh when, has she ever led the Senate in opposing anything George Bush has done? I'm still waiting for your answer....... She has promise as a Senator, but I don't find her qualified to be President thank your very much.
Hillary Clinton now tells us she was opposed to the war in Iraq when she voted for it.
Hillary Clinton is a substantial liar.
A vote against the war is a vote for the American economy- but then Israel has no anti war candidates do they? And what with the election so throughly rigged for the pro war candidates we have no choice but to lie down like a dog or expose the massive vote fraud at every opportunity. Until foreign nations realize that they should use diplomatic solutions instead of crime to get what they want. It is sad that it does not look like what they want is peace but American money and lives. My question is what will Israel do when America is brought to her knees and ruined beyond repair?
Who is going to pay for this plan?
Which Hillary are we talking about? It's all about the photo op and the way the political winds are a blowin' at the moment. If she's elected won't be long and we'll be livin' in the USSA.
This is amazing. Having read the article Schlesinger makes the point that Hillary, and no one else, has a substantive plan to try and buoy a troubled and failing economy. Full stop. And the responses are "policy is cheap", "Hillary will say whatever she thinks you want to hear", "Cheney in drag"? I am ashamed at the level of discourse here. I think "Change" without experience or substantive plans is about the cheapest thing possible...it's a sound byte, its empty and vapid...I am not certain Americans realize what kind of shape the country is in domestically and internationally...it's dire folks and "Cheney in Drag" isnt the kind of conversation that fixes the problem. Left Teleprompter, Right Telepromter Obama may have convinced everyone that he is a "unifier" (I am not even sure what that means...he is just as much a political animal as anyone...he sought the endorsement of a Washington insider, and LOSER, John Kerry for gods sake) but the truth is, that the country is in desparate need of a reset, a recalibration and real measures to fix it...not just well scripted prompter reads and Oprah as Secretary of Book Clubs.
So being progressive in your book and in many other minds of allegedly progressive males for Hillary Clinton, means Elenore Roosevelt could run for President based on the wonderful things she did SUPPORTING the Presidency of her husband??????
Well said. There are extremely important issues to be discussed. The economy affects every person on this planet. Some of us are seeking good information so we can make informed decisions in the voting booth. Sadly, our news media is not serving us very well.
