Khaled Mashal Confirms He Will Send Delegation to Cairo

What's Your Reaction?

AMMAN, JORDAN -- On Saturday, 17 October, I interviewed Hamas leader Khaled Mashal on a range of subjects at his offices in Damascus, Syria.

The full interview is currently being edited and will be released first at a new blog, The Palestine Note and will then appear here at Huffington Post and at The Washington Note.

But during the meeting I asked Mashal to reconfirm news that I distributed on Friday -- namely that despite the start-and-stop, blurred comments coming out about whether Hamas and Fatah would meet in Cairo for reconciliation negotiations -- Hamas was going to send a delegation.

Full stop, Mashal confirms this in the seven second video above.

Haaretz has just posted the clip and Mashal comment as well.

Hamas does not, will not, indeed CANNOT recognize the right of Israel to exist alongside any Palestinian state, and the evidence is there for anyone able to read--in its very charter, its mission statement, its televised propaganda, etc. Hamas is responsible for holding back the Palestinians of today, just as the Arab League did for decades. The Palestinian people need leadership that can deal peace, real peace, when confronted with offers such as those of Barak and Olmert. Nine years have been utterly wasted since Arafat turned down the 2000 deal. Even if it wasn't "enough," it was SOMETHING and would have led to investment, stability, prosperity and hope. Hamas is a death cult that's dragging the Palestinians down.

What's the matter? Are Israel's supporters afraid that a united Palestinian government will be better able to prove the war crimes of Israel? Or is it that one of the pre-conditions set by Israel and the US will be met and then Israel will have to stop their illegal settlements?

zenju - you sound worried. Not for the reasons given in your post - that's a cover!
There will be some issues on which both parties will be united - and that's going to make it harder to play them off against each other. Tough.

It would be nice if we American- Arab, or Muslim learn from the best political operatives in the US and promote our side of this story and the fact's and one voice the right voice , since facts does not count too much in telling there story these days , its time we all work together and show that we are just as patriotic as other group and we have served in the armed force's to protect this country and the constitution .

I find it appalling that you feel the need to "show" anything of the sort. Your history in the US speaks for itself. American Muslims did not attack anywhere on US soil. The Americans who have committed terrorist attacks on US soil are white and Christian.
