(That's Matt Cooper on the left next to the great Al Franken)

I'm into "Facebook Journalism." I think it's really cool -- though one of my friends who is a genuine, old school journalist (and out of a job) pretty much handed me my head when I called John Dickerson's twitter reporting on Bill O'Reilly shoving an Obama staffer in New Hampshire "new journalism." He was miffed.

Now Matt Cooper of Conde Nast's Portfolio is reporting this on his Facebook twitter box:

Willing to bet this is the last Clinton election ever. No senate or presidential bid in '12.

That's interesting. I have been one to think that the Clinton franchise would hold together -- even if she steps out of the race or was ultimately defeated by Obama. But an alternative view is that the Clinton political machine could completely collapse when her forward momentum to the White House is definitively stopped.

Matt's bet that the Clintons, all of them, would head into a next 'electionless' life is not unbelievable.

Interesting stuff this Facebook journalism.

Here's my page. My twitter box currently says that I am "impressed by what Dianne Feinstein knows about nukes" after an interesting dinner I attended with her last night.

It's hard to tolerate the degree of venom of these women-haters. They seem to have a hatred for a woman who has made a real impact on this race. The disgusting, often pornographic, epithets hurled at this woman by gutless anonymous posters on the internet, and the partisan hacks on cable, are an attack on all women.

There is little to support Matt Cooper's prediction, Clinton's history is surely not on his side.

What makes up the shortfall for the blogger boys is a third ingredient: misogyny. Supporting Obama gives them license to hate Hillary. It"s a license to engage openly, enthusiastically, in misogyny of the most feverish kind. Hating Hillary has traditionally been the preserve of wingnuts, and the liberal boys have felt constrained (though not entirely) to stay away from too much Clinton-bashing. But now, with Hillary running against their man Obama, they"ve got their opening. Finally they"re free to engage in the crazed heart-racing hatred that only the guys on the right have been able to enjoy. Can you imagine how liberating it must be? That"s why they"re so giddy. They"ve been repressing this for years! ...
Let's finally admit that the extreme attacks are based on women-hating - and the fact that NO ONE can say why he's the person best suited for the job ... but boy, we know how much his minions hate women!

You say, "and the fact that NO ONE can say why he's the person best suited for the job." If you really believe this, then you are simply not listening.

In all of these areas, he is better suited for President than Clinton or McCain: foreign policy approach, energy policies, educational plans, health care plan, knowledge of the constitution and plan to revoke Bush's presidential decrees, his temperament, and his wisdom. I like his approach to communication, his natural abilities to inspire and lead, and I like his American story.

My complaints against Clinton have NOTHING to do with her gender. I do not see how you can even say that this is a central theme of Obama supporters. I have read many thousands of comments, and hundreds of blogs and articles, and misogyny is simply not what is going on. Hillary has shown her less-than-desirable character, her low-life campaing strategies, and her lack of leadership skills. It has nothing to do with her womanhood.

"It"s a license to engage openly, enthusiastically, in misogyny of the most feverish kind."

You know what? Hillary has--through her conduct during this contents--earned every drop of the emnity she has been receiving. It's been ugly. Hillary's attitude has been even worse.

Get stuffed about misogyny; many of her fiercest critics were once entheusiastic supporters, and we didn't suddenly notice that she's female and change our minds. Our failure to embrace Hillary has nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her character.

What we noticed was that Hillary--once we'd cheered her into the senate--was neither the person nor the leader we thought we had been working to elect. In fact, she betrayed us and our priorities over and over and over. We didn't quit on her; she quit on us.

And now to have the likes of you calling us misogynist for having the gall to notice that Hillary Clinton isn't what she's been claiming to be adds groos incsult to substantial iinjury.

Diane Feinstein might know about nukes, but she was a total toad yesterday in reversing her questioning of HRC to I am still backing her. For what? To destroy the party? Also, I think Matt is right. Yesterday's USA did it for her. People are outraged. Unforgiveable.

Diane Feinstein knows about no bid military contracts and the wads of money it puts in her pockets.

The political reality for psephologist's pundits is math but the political reality for Americans should be the freedom to voice a vote!Permit everyone to be heard! Obama supporters demonstrate the impetuousnesses of the young!

Have anyone ever considered the fact that perhaps the real war beneath the public news is historical political legacy! Who will my grandchildren remember? Whose family name will cover the future history textbooks?Who will be elevated to the greatness of George Washington or to the vulpine sibylline plans for America's future like John Adams or Tomas Jefferson? Will it be Clinton or Kennedy that exposes the quintessential American archetype in future America? At the end of the political day this imbroglio may boil down to intractable ego's!

Has anyone thought the reason Hillary is stil in the race is because of the favour owed to her backer and lobbist friends. She is brought and paid for and she now needs to deliver. Her only recourse is to win the nonimation.

BG, I would have agreed with your suggestion a month ago. But she's not repaying anyone by staying in at this point. Stephanopoulos estimates that her campaign may be more than $30 million in debt, even after her recent loan. Her campaign has become one of the worst investments that anyone could make, and she's not going to be seeing any more money coming her way. Her backers and lobbyist friends are simply out of luck. They backed the wrong horse.

Reports of Hillary's demise are greatly exaggerated. She lays low for a while, starts out slow with a couple well-chosen media appearances, who knows? As a known quantity, if she can remix her persona a little bit, the door is probably still open down the road. We do know this- she won't just give up. Give her props, she's tough.

She can't fix it in the mix. I don't think even rewriting the songs will work. First, of course, she should stop singing "Me and Rush are dreaming of a White Christmas". But more than that, she needs to rethink her medium (to continue the metaphor, she needs to move from CDs to MP3s).

I do believe the state of NY is in desperate need of a new governor, and Hillary would make a great NY governor!

Maybe she should run for Arkansas governor, after all there are more hardworking white people living in Arkansas. She is pathetic.

Goldie9,

Why do you hate New York? If she were appointed ambassador to Lower Slobovia, I'd fear for Lower Slobovia.

So she can struggle to make good on her promises while running for the Senate?! The 200,000 jobs she claims she will create for New Yorkers. The fact is over 20,000 jobs were LOST. She will promise you the moon to get elected! Hillary is the ultimate pandering & untrustworthy candidate. Listening to her requires a "willing suspension of disbelief"!

Hillary ran for the Senate only as a stepping stone to the presidency. Unless she sees an opportunity to be president down the road, she won't run again for the Senate. The idea being a mover and shaker behind the scenes in the democratic party may appeal to her, but she has blown that prospect with her scorched earth campaign tactics and because this is a changing of the guard. Out with the old and in with the new, younger generation of Democrats. If she weren't so selfish, she could take the opportunity to ease the transition within the Democratic party and show pride in our young democrats. If the Democrats can pull off a smooth transition (ignoring the likes of Bill, Hillary, and Ed Koch), they'll be a generation ahead of the Republicans who still cling to their failed conservative principles. The Clinton era is over.

Not until they pry political office from Hillary's cold dead hands. She will still be plugging for votes until she is 99. Mores the pity.

If she can find enough voters to get elected again, more power to her. Personally I can't imagine how anyone can still trust her with his important business. In the end we might even see a bankruptcy at the endpoint of the Clinton campaign. How sad. And how unprofessional.

It's possible. If she and the Clinton Foundation received a huge amount of contributions in anticipation of a new Clinton presidency - and the dividends that would return for those contributors - and she doesn't win, she will lose a huge amount of future monetary support from those backers.

These people will look for the next rising star and put their money there.

In addition, Senator Clinton's loss could also adversely affect Bill Clinton's future speaking fees.

Last I heard, Buffalo, N.y, was still in New York State, and Hillary Clinton was still one of it's Senators. For all her talk about 'restoring jobs' and empathy with Pennsylvanians, I think the citizens of one of "her" larger cities have seen nothing new, except highger taxes, since she has represented them. Does she like Ohioan's or Pennsyvanians better? The national medial would be wise to ask the folks in New York state how much their lives have improved lately...At least before W.Va. and Kentucky fall for the same b.s. that Pa. and Ohio did.

Exactly! She has virtually been given a free ride by the press about all her "experience". What HAS she done for New Yorkers? WHERE ARE all the jobs she claimed she would bring to her voters? Or did Bill give them all away to foreign countries by promoting trade deals? She has a history of saying anything that "polls well" and then kicking the voters to the curb when she gets elected.

smark Your are in sever need of a lesson in "political civility courting"! I favor Hillary but will accept Obama and I am white and old! I resent some white racist comments mad upon this board! It is truly unamerican to attempt to advantage a political candidate predicated upon racial bias! To hell with racial bias and prejudice for democratic victory it is a non-sequtor!

Ask not what she's done for New Yorkers. Ask what New Yorkers have done for her.

As of Tues. evening, we saw the disintegration of the Clinton wing of the democratic party. No matter how she tries to spin it, 87% of all people, black, white, men, women, rich, middle-class, poor, young and...middle aged voted for Obama in Tues'. Indiana primary. Hillary only carried the over 65 age demographic. While this is a powerful voting block, it is not what a forward-looking campaign is built upon. People on fixed-incomes have real concerns that need to be addressed, as does the rest of this nation after 8 years of Bush.

Hopefully enough people have finally realized that we have to elect leaders who are responsible to us, because we fund their campaigns and work them, rather than continue with business as usual. Clinton is loaning her campaign money because she lacks the support of enough people to continue. Obama reached 1,500,000 donors last week.

I, for one, am looking forward to making this nation a better place than it has been since 2000. I have two kids who will live in their world we leave them.

Democracy is something you create.

I'm an Obama supporter and I've been less and less fond of Hillary (her recent behavior and comments are pretty outrageous), but she will definitely be able to reinvent herself. She has huge name recognition and she is remarkably resilient.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:41 PM on 05/08/2008

If what we are seeing on the campaign trail is the real Hillary, she will not be able to reinvent herself, because she seems unable to admit a mistake. You cannot reinvent yourself if you cannot recognize the flaws in yourself.
