Grumpy Old Putzes

They're no longer grand, they are old as the hills and it sure ain't a party.

Really its about strangling. Smothering. Giving no quarter.

It's about taking no prisoners and eating the wounded. And it's about all the Republicans do (or do well).

In move after cynical move, the Republican party has revealed its true agenda, one closer to Vince Lombardi's than to Thomas Jefferson's and that is: to just win.

Doesn't really matter for what or how they get there, they just need to be standing on top of the pile looking down.

From installing woeful Obama proxies like the clueless Michael Steele and Bobby Jindal (before the latter tripped over his topsiders) to the never-say-die (you can't kill what's already dead) Sarah Palin, the pallid attempt to emulate the Democrats' success shows that the schmucks just keep recycling their tried and trusty, deep fried and crusty credo of Bully, Bludgeon and Destroy anything and anyone standing in the way of their supremacy.

Will we ever get over the Bush administration's use of vainglorious, biblical metaphors for their self-described epic struggles between good and evil? Or the tragi-comic Mount Rushmore-on-wheels---Cheney, Limbaugh, Gingrich and McCain---trundling around media outlets in an effort to engage the stragglers left over from the defeat of '08? If this party of undesirables were on a raft bobbing on the waves from Cuba they would be sent back.

The core of the Republican ideology has long since strayed from its stated desires to find leaner, better ways to govern a free people and has evolved into a diamond-hard doctrine of perpetual unrepentance. Their collective character, as embodied in the spokespersons making the rounds of all the Republican friendly outlets---the Cheney Father-Daughter Revisionist Dish Twirling Act along with various flavors of lower echelon apparatchiks---can barely fill their halves of the television screen whenever pitted against their more intelligent and righteously victorious liberal counterparts. It may be rare the Republicans get beat but when they do it's downright pathetic.

But it doesn't matter to the party, its leadership or its zombie foot soldiers, who are committed to the timeworn strategy (or blind hope) of overwhelming the opposition through sheer, soulless, brainless brute force. It's a Gory Old Plan and one which is followed relentlessly.

While the Obama presidency tries to proceed with its sensible and potentially successful approach to cleaning up the Republican'ts mess (which their ideology forces them to deny and disavow any and all culpability) all they can come up with in these lean, mean times is scowling, resentment, jittery monochromatic mobs , snapping jaws, paranoid glares---this is the Grand Old Party without its perky, paternal facade.

They're no longer grand, they are old as the hills and it sure ain't a party.
