My Ad Hominem Attack (or: Maybe They're Onto Something)

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

They are showing themselves, ladies and gentlemen. They are exposing the twitching, seething hate-mongers they always were.

And these sorry, media goons are only the business end of the Republican party, whose heart is as virulent and detestable as any beating within the chest of the terrorists they so loudly decry. Their behavior is disgraceful and perhaps even sociopathic, devoid of any sense of responsibility or awareness.

Every day, one or more of their representatives openly eschew wisdom, intelligence, history, culture, manners and sense. And never are these mad dogs reined in by the so-called party leadership, those tight-lipped, turbo-tanned oligarchs who have of late been consigned to the margins---finally---and yet still feel empowered to lob WMD's from their cushy congressional wank chambers (so that's where Saddam kept 'em!) into the town square, stalling---yet again---the massive clean-up effort which is at last under way.

As they strip themselves of all pretensions of civility and strike out at anything or anyone which smacks of progress why not strip away all our civility as well when confronting these villainous relics from the dark ages?

They are brats with golf clubs, lobbyists and guns.

They are self-loathing stacks of repressed protoplasm.

They are desperate and determined to disrupt, deceive and destroy.

They are the dark, damnable id run amok, decaying, bloated and insane.

How much more does the world need to see before the Republican party is condemned for being a terrorist organization on a par with Al Qaeda?

How much more must we be subjected to those who would keep giving the kiss of life to racism, classism, ignorance, greed and an insatiable desire to consolidate power and wealth to the exclusion of all who don't fit their narrow-minded requirements of supposed patriotism?

(Pauses. Takes a sip of bile.)

Boy that felt good. No wonder they like to do that!

But what about Sarah "I can see Russia from my backyard"+ "Killing wolves from a plane with a high powered rifle is humane and justified" Palin?

As a member of an oppressed class thrice over(hispanic, female, Libertarian), I found this article humorous insomuch as the Republican party of today looks eerily similar to the Clinton Democratic Party of the 1990's. Okay, I have no idea what my oppressed state has to do with anything. But I wonder what differences you see in the two (modern-day GOP/Clinton DNC)?

And while an ocean lies between our ideologies, you are a gifted writer.

Pretty sad!

Dear Steven,

Time to hang~up the pedantry and megalomania!

Next time, if you want an audience, you should mention Sarah Palin!

All the best!

Chris

Absolutely! I don't understand how we have let this group of nuts (and I include more than the Fundies) turn our once-great (or at least once among-the-best) country into second-rate (or worse) in terms of personal freedoms, rule by law, science, education, freedom-from-government and healthcare, not to mention making states like Kansas and Texas all but uninhabitable if your IQ is north of 60.

I think we need to get back to the Constitution but DO IT, not just pay lip service.

Hey, I can't say that in my posts. You have to admit it does hit the nail on the proverbial head.

The more they show themselves for what they are, the more they alienate minorities and lessen their chances of a comeback.

Actually, you can completely reduce all Republicans/Conservatives into four words:

FEAR, HATE, IGNORANCE, and GREED

They apply and promote these characteristics to everything they do or say.

And now they play the RACE card about Sotomayor? Can you say HA-HA-HA-HA about 20 bazillion times?

One wonders how the party will react following the inevitable thumping they're going to receive in the 2010 elections. Will they continue to deludethemselves that the answer is to somehow become even more conservative? Will they continue to purge their ranks of all but the truly hard-core believers? Watching the continued death spiral of this gaggle of racist, sexist, hypocritical buffoons has become more entertaining than following any sport I can think of, but how long can it possibly go on before they grow a brain?

Traditionally, it has been the Democrats who are portrayed as spineless and afraid to stand up for their convictions. There has been ample evidence of their cowardice in their failure to oppose the Bush administration, even when they had the power to do so.

Moderate Republicans have for some reason never been called to account for exactly the same kind of behaviour. They have consistently failed to put principle before power, and kowtowed to the most virulent hatemongers and fanatics because they could deliver the base. Unless they suddenly develop some backbone, they might just as well leave the party, as Arlen Specter has, and sit either as Independents or Democrats. The party of Lincoln has been taken over by racists, thugs, fanatics and demagogues. Joseph McCarthy would be proud.

Loved it. Funny, sad, but true.

We all need to take a sip of bile every now and again. Unfortunately, that is all the Repubs drink and eat.

WOW! I feel better just having read your post, Steven. It must have felt really good to write it. I agree with buckbuck11, too. I can hardly stand to watch all the so-called journalists who repeat what the Repugs say with no regard to whether there's any truth or whether it's just name-calling or whether it's irrelevant (such as the BS that Cheney and Gingrich spew).

I always enjoy your posts.

Actually if you break it down point by point and compare it to the reality the above essay is still nothing more than a dry recitation of well-established facts.

I'm not sure who I loathe more: the Republican big ots or the vacuous media talking heads who let them spew this unbridled hate speech unchallenged by fact or counter example.

To paraphrase Moyers, "Truth has only one side."

Right on Steven! I've felt for years that the Republican party is the biggest terrorist threat our nation faces.

----

The other day, Rush Limbaugh made reference to "Genital Powell."

Can you believe that his unprofessional, juvenile behavior has been rewarded with a $400 million contract?

A dose of healthy shaming is in order for Limbaugh and his corporate paymasters as they layoff real radio professionals to keep him propped up on our public-owned airwaves.
